how to hook up a dvd player on westinghouse lcd tv?

Joan L.

Answer
This will depend on the player you have and what it provides for video and audio output. More than likely it will have a component video output, which is color coded in Red, Green and Blue, some new model provide you with HDMI. For audio an optical audio port or an rca jack color coded in Red and White. You match that with your tv input. I you use HDMI, this will handle the video and audio. If component cable then you need to use the optical for the audio for surround sound. The Red and White rca jack is only for stereo sound. You tv and DVD owners manual will provide you with the proper instructions. Hope this will help you out.

Do you need an HDMI cable to connect a DVD player to an LCD TV?

Sam Darren

I'm getting ready to buy a 37" LCD HDTV. But I just thought about my combo DVD/VCR player that I have at home. It's just a DVD/VCR player, not an HD-DVD player. Can I just connect it to the LCD TV with the normal cables and watch it. Or would I need a special cable such as a HDMI cable? I'm thinking that since the DVD player is digital, I should just be able to hook the darn thing up to the new LCD-HDTV.

Answer
Just make sure it has the input type that matches the output from your DVD player - component is usually the best option if your player outputs it.
You only need the HDMI cable for HD level of input to the tv, such as from an HD cable/satellite box or an HDDVD/BluRay dvd player or a DVD player that upconverts to HD.

Should I buy a 720p dvd player to go with a 720p lcd tv or will my 420p dvd player work?

james

The quality of the picture is pretty important to me.

Also, I've heard that most lcd tvs can convert a 420p signal to a 720p.
Is this the same thing as buying a 720p dvd player?

Answer
By 720p dvd player I guess you are talking about a blu ray. A blu ray will look much better than a standard dvd disk. HD tvs do convert any signal they receive to their native resolution, but if you send your tv a 480 dvd pic, it will just convert a poor signal to a large screen. A blu ray will send you a full 720 lines of resolution and look much clearer. It can send a 1080p signal, but with a 720p tv, that's all you will see, 720p. Still an excellent pic.

Use HDMI or red/green/blue component cables to connect blu ray to your tv.

how to philip dvd player to samsung lcd tv?

Q.

Answer
Component A/V (red/green/blue + white/red) to TV, or HDMI (if upscaling player) to TV.

If the player hasn't connections compatible with the TV, you could use a converter box to convert what A/V the DVD player has, to what connection the TV has. My personal advice in that case to just get a modern player that will use HDMI.

Why does my Samsung LCD TV screen have a blue tone when I connect peripherals using component cables?

I have a 19-inch Samsung flat-screen LCD TV. When I connect peripherals (DVD player, XBox 360, etc.) through the component ports, everything has a blue-ish tone to it. I know it's not the component cables themselves because I've tried 3 different sets of component cables and they all have the same blue tone result. So I'm guessing there's something wrong with the TV itself. If I connect things through other ports (S-Video, Composite, DVI, etc.), everything is fine. Could I possibly have changed a setting on my TV by mistake to make everything blue when connecting things through the component ports? Or is this just an issue with the TV itself? Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer
Sometimes a Samsung LCD can push blue if you have your color settings on "Cool" - and for that matter, ALL TV's have a color push out of the box.

If you want to reduce the blue push, try changing from "Cool" to "Warm" in your picture settings.

Also, check to see if you're receiving blue as a result of your component settings not receiving a "red" or "green" picture. Sometimes it takes a moment to notice, but blue will be pushed because red or green aren't transmitting from your source content (DVD player, or whatever) to your TV.

If that doesn't help, try calling Samsung's toll free phone number - 800-SAMSUNG during M-F normal business hours. That number connects you to one of the three offices in the United States, which is cool that you aren't being rerouted to India.

Good luck to you!

Will the use of component video cables increase the picture quality from my DVD player to my new HDTV?

jaycrazy

I just recently purchased a 32" 720p LCD TV. The DVD quality isn't as sharp as I expected it to be. I'm not yet ready to upgrade to Blu-ray. I'm currently using the composite cables (red, white, yellow). I noticed that my DVD player has component video output and my TV obviously has a component input. I understand the audio will be separate from this.

Will using component video cables noticeably improve the DVD image quality?

Answer
Yes, component cables will definitely improve.
Try also Progressive video out.

Can I mount a DVD player next to my mounted LCD tv?

Can I mount a DVD player next to my mounted LCD tv???
Is there a bracket I can buy to mount it?

Answer
No reason not to. The things you cannot put next to a television are speakers and other devices which contain magnets. Magnets will bend the electron beam used to make a picture.
