Answer
Naaa VLC is DVD Decoder dependant and does NOT have it's own decoder. But works well when one is installed.

Now YOU said you tried PowerDVD... If that failed, nothing will work, you are lookig at a different issue. Perhaps region settigns are not marked for your country (see DVD Drive in Device Manager).

But, for poops and laughs, let's try another free DVD Playback program. Try Advanced DVD player as it's pretty good, I mean it's not pretty, but it's good. AND Windows Media PLayer can ride off ADVD's decoder too.

Problem, ADVD comes with Bargain Buddy and Saap which are small ad programs that used to cuase a lot of problems, now they just run i memory but do nothing except eat up a tiny bit of resources. However, any Antivirus program can kill that or clear it for you. Not that you need to. Anyway, here's a copy...

Ok I recently bought a pc at a yard sale with no cd's....it only had the product key used for that pc so I used my windows xp cd and rebooted the whole thing. It's running good. Problem the DVD player have no software and won't work? I put a DvD in and it keeps giving me error messages saying that I need to install the software that came with the player....is there anyway to do this without knowing what kind of Dvd player it is.....? Thanks for help in advance!

Answer
Try downloading free DVD software. I think Nero has a free one and there are several others. Good luck.

How do you play a DVD on windows media player?

melissa

steps to do it please!

Answer
How do I play DVDs in Windows Media Player?

To play DVDs using the Player, you must have a DVD-ROM drive, a computer running the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, and either a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. (By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder.)

If these conditions are met, you can play DVDs by using Windows Media Player for Windows XP or later.

it sucks but you need the special hardware.. assuming you do.. this page should help.. hope it does!

Making a DVD?

Ok, I just made 3 DVD's from my computer which I have done several times in the past and after they are done burning and I try to watch them on the same computer I burnt them from, there is no video...What I mean is that the DVD plays, but there is no picture. Its all black but I can hear everything. Then I take the DVD out and put it in a DVD player and it plays fine. I've made DVD's in the past doing exactly what I just did and they worked fine on my computer. What is going on? Please help me out. I am using Cyberlink Power 2 GO on Windows XP. thanks

Answer
Try to view your DVDs using Media Player Classic. It is a free software that plays DVD. Just launch VIDEO_TS.IFO file from VIDEO_TS folder of your DVD's

Answer
Microsoft has a list of DVD Decoder plug-ins. All four of the plug-ins work fine.
