I just got a blu ray dvd player for my hdtv, I've been using a dvd/vcr combo to connect to the cable ?

Erica B

I would change channels through the vcr. How do I set up my new blu ray dvd player to get cable?

Answer
If you're using the DVD/VCR to change channels, leave it connected to your TV. Instead, connect the blu-ray player to your HDTV with a HDMI cable. You want to use a HDMI cable because it's the only way to get the full HD quality picture out of your blu-ray player.

The blu-ray player does not have a TV tuner in it, so it can't be used with your cable service at all.

If your TV doesn't have enough HDMI ports, you can either swap your DVD/VCR to using component video cables, or get a HDMI switch.

Using component video for the DVD/VCR is OK even for HDTV because most channels are in 720p, which is handled fine by component video cables. However, blu-ray movies are in 1080p, which can only be carried by a HDMI cable.

How do I connect a dvd player to a TV/VCR combo?

Okay, here is what I have. I'm trying to set this up for the guest room! I have a Toshiba TV/VCR combo that I was given. I also have a cheap (very small, very basic) DVD player. How do I connect them? I am not trying to connect to an antenna or cable. It will JUST be for videos and DVDs.

I have a cable that has a white, yellow, and red connector on both ends. The DVD player has a place where all of these can be connected. However, the TV only has a yellow and a white slot to be plugged into! I don't know much about home electronics so answers need to be geared toward a beginner! Thank you!
Hi Country. Thank you for your answer. I had already tried what you said but it didn't work. Suggestions as to why? Is there any need for a coaxial cable or something I might be missing? Settings, a particular channel I should be on (I tried 3)? Thank you!
Actually I did exactly what Country said! He said if I wanted both left and right to go get the adapter. That part I did not do. ALso, did not know the part about setting it the way you suggested with the remote, which is aproblem because the TV does not have a remote. So I'm going to head to Walmart and buy a Universal.

Answer
The yellow is video and since the TV is probably mono, it only has one audio connection (the white one).
Using your cable, connect yellow from the DVD player to the yellow on the TV, then connect the white from the DVD player to the white on the TV.
If you want to get both Left and Right audio channels, then head over to Radio Shack and purchase an RCA "Y adapter" so you can connect both your red and white cables to the single white connector on the TV. Just bring your cable with you and the salesperson can show you what you need - less than $5.

Problem connecting DVD player to TV/VCR Combo?

SupaJ016

I recently inherited an old Panasonic Omnivision VCR Plus TV/VCR combo. I just plugged it in, set up the channels and stuck in a VHS tape. It works. Intending to set this up in a spare room for guests, I thought it would be nice to connect a DVD player to this as well. The TV only has two jacks on the front though: one video and one audio input. So, I plugged in these cables and connected them to the corresponding video and audio outputs on the DVD player. I get a picture but...no sound. Is there anything I can do to fix this??

Thank you.

Answer
You can convert vhs to a dvd , then play the dvd on DVD Player, here are two methods to convert VHS to DVD.
1. use dvd recorder: not need vcr and software, just record videos from vhs to dvd.
here is a guide: http://www.dvdvideosoftware.org/guide/top-7-dvd-recorder-vhs-vcr-combinations.html

2. use VCR and Software, connecting video cables, installing software, burning DVD's.

VCR/DVD combo with tuner?

dasnazz

I have tried everywhere to locate a dvd/vcr player with analog tuner from reputable manuf. for a classroom. Going to use with a projector that doesn't have a tuner. Can't use a cable box. Any suggestions?

Answer
I just bought an LG brand dvd player/recorder with analog and digital tuner. This unit doesn't have the vcr but I believe they sell one that does.

As a dvd recorder goes, this sucks. About half the blanks I put in end up as coasters. But the digital tuning feature makes up for it. I can tune all the analog cable channels plus a few digital ones. It has composite, svideo, and componant video out. Even HDMI I think.

As a DVD player and TV tuner, it works perfectly. My only complaint is in the dvd recording.

How do you hook up a dvd player/VCR combo?

I just bought a DVD player/VCR combo. I already have a cable box (with DVR). How can I hook up the new DVD/VCR so that I can record cable shows onto the VCR?

Answer
On the back of the DVR there should be a set of "outputs" red white and yellow. You can run the outputs into the AV input on the DVD/VCR combo player. Then all you will have to do is put the VCR on the AV channel and play what you have DVR'd and hit record.

how do u transfer vcr tapes on to dvd player with a dvd recorder/or vcrdvd combo?

i have a dvd recorder that i can transfer vcr tapes to my dvd player, how do i do that?

Answer
All you have to do is VCR outputs (composite/Yellow and audio/red & white jacks) to the corresponding inputs on the recorder. Hit play,VHS...hit record, dvd recorder and you're done. Stop the DVD recorder and put in new blank dics. Repeat as necessary.

Many dvd recorders allow you to make a basic main menu if you want to break up the dvd into accessible parts. Also be aware that you can get more onto a DVD by varying the record mode on your recorder. But, more on a disc means lower quality. You should also make sure you buy the right blank discs for your brand of recorder. Most handle DVD-Rs but a few brands use DVD+Rs. Check your manual. The patch cables for dubbing can be purchased at your local Radio Shack...you'll need "RCA to RCA".

hope that helps!!!

What kind of cables do I need to hook up a vcr/dvd player combo to the TV?

maureeses

I got the two in one player and I'm not sure if I could only rely on the kind of cable that screws into the line in/ line out or do I need the cable components in order to use the vcr or dvd player.

Answer
It's going to depend on what your TV supports. You'll want to use the best type of connection that your DVD/VCR and TV supports.

In descending order of preference:

* Component video
* S-video
* Composite video
* Coax (what you call the screw-in line-in/line-out)

Any of these will work, but you should make the effort to use the best connection supported by your TV and combo player.

Also, if you have a surround sound receiver, you might want to consider connecting your VCR/DVD to it for surround sound while watching movies. Most of the time this will be an optical audio cable or a digital coax cable. Again, check your manuals to see what's supported.

One final thing - when shopping for cables, avoid Monster brand. They're really expensive, and don't perform any better than cheaper cables. In reality, unless your living room is right in front of a large radar dish, even cheaper cables will work just fine. You really shouldn't need to spend more than $10-15 for any of the cables I've talked about.

is it safe to use a dvd player in a dresser drawer?

best dvd player vcr combo on Panasonic PV-D4735S DVD / VHS VCR Combo Player ~ Works Good but No ...

Might be a dumb question, but I want to use a combo dvd player/VCR in my top dresser drawer with the drawer closed. I would cut a hole in the back for the wires. Would the heat cause any problems/hazards? Thank you.

Answer
Check the owners manual, I am fairly certain near the front it will instruct you on what not to do, or at least what could be hazardous. I would suggest that source is better than any of our opinions.

How do you record tv shows on a dvd player that has dvd rw?

Rachael

I have a vcr dvd combo player and i record my tv shows i miss. Since my dvd player has a dvd-rw feature, could i record my tv shows through my dvd player if my vcr were to go out?

Answer
Only if your DVD player is a DVD recorder. If DVD-RW is listed as a feature, it could only mean that it plays DVD-RW discs. If it doesn't specify being a recorder on the front or in the manual, it isn't a recorder.

If it doesn't have a digital tuner, your TV will have to be tuned to the channel you are recording.
