Can DVD player for mac play disk images?

Is there a plugin or fix available to allow the standard DVD player application in mac to play disk images (mounted from .dmg)? It would be helpful and would remove the need to take all my delicate DVD's on long car trips. :)

DVD Player.app has this functionality by default. I use it all the time to check DVDs I make in DVD Studio Pro and iDVD. I also use it to time-shift rentals.

Once DVD Player is open, choose File < Open DVD Media. Choose the disk from the sidebar. You don't have to go down to the line to select folders or anything.

Alternatively, you can use Front Row to play the DVD as a disk image. First, you must create an alias of the /Volumes directory in your home folder. Because /Volumes is hidden, you can get to it by activating Finder and selecting Go < Go to Folder and typing /Volumes Option + Command + drag the icon on top of the window to create an alias in your home folder.

You can use a bunch of third party video players, namely VLC to watch DVDs stored in that format, but the concept is that it is a virtual disk, so the OS understands what it is, and what to do with it.

Mac OS X comes with an application called DVD Player. VLC (free download) is also a good player.

If you mean DVD drive, I'm afraid I can't be of much help since all my Macs have built-in DVD drives.

Apples own dvd player program. but usually only works with Apples built in dvd players or burners. VLC is also a program that plays dvds but it lacks the picture quality in my opinion of a set top dvd player or Apples dvd player. Also there is a program called Mplayer which is a little better on picture quality than VLC. you can download both at Macupdate.com.

Resetting region settings for mac dvd player?

Alright so the mac OS X dvd player only lets you change your region settings five times. I have used up those five times and i can't find a way around it, though i know there must be one.

I would really appreciate it if someone knew how to reset the dvd player.

Every DVD player (that includes the one in your computer) is sold being able to play only discs with the same region as the country it was sold in,that includes Macs too.On a new Mac, the DVD drive is automatically locked to the region code of the first DVD it is used with. If you mean the kind of thing that looks a bit like a laptop which you put a DVD into and then watch it on its screen, no, that won't connect to your Mac.

What you need is a DVD drive - are you sure your Mac doesn't already have a slot where you can insert a CD/DVD? Then I used Toast 8 to burn on DvdR but when I put in my DVD player player I get message "Playback prohibited by area limitations". I can't seem to get rid of the subtitles that appear every time I watch something on my mac with the application DVD Player. It is not the disk that is set up to have subtitles. Any ideas?

I guess this is an option to remove the subtitles on your player. You can right click the movie while player and it should give an an option there which says primary subtitle. Click no subtitle.

How can I burn a DVD on a mac that can play in a standard DVD player?

I have a mac ibook (G4) with a superdrive to burn DVDs. I want to burn DVDs from video that I downloaded from my video camera. My previous attempts would not play on a regular DVD player, only on a computer. Also, it would only play one clip at a time, not continously. Should I be able to do this with iDVD or imovie, or do I have to use something like roxio toast (?)?

Use iMovie to create the movie, then use iDVD to burn the DVD. iDVD will make a DVD that is compatible with DVD players. Toast is not needed for what you are asking to do.
