I have a Dell 8400 that went belly-up and had to re-install all of Dell's apps and drivers but there weren't any list for the Philips and is still giving problem. I replaced the Power Supply to keep it from spontaneously shutoff. Registry repair rendered about 3 weeks of operation. Now re-intalled and occasional memory problem while using the DVD drive.
Answer
Windows XP should automatically install the standard IDE drivers, you should not need anything else.
If you are having memory problems, open up your device manager and remove the DVD player. Restart the computer and have it find the device again.

Can you recommend a free DVD decoder for Window's XP?

The only ones that Microsoft recommends require payment. When using a Mac interface, I can run DVDs without having to buy any software. Surely there's a way that I can do the same with Windows XP?
Answer
Just download VLC Player.

Or if you want to use only WMP, download K-Lite codecs.
