Which brand and what model / screen size

Ryn, thanks but I'm a girl as you can see. :P

Answer
No. The kids do though. They are all either broken or will be broken soon. My "better half" buys them at Walmart. I won't set foot in that place. That's at least part of the reason for the high failure rate. That they are junk purchased at Walmart, not the fact that I won't shop there myself.

Burned DVD plays on Lap top but not on DVD player?

Idania

I burned exercise torrent that plays on lap top but not on my DVD player. Used RW DVDs. Why is this happening?

Answer
RW DVDs are right dvd disc, I know the reason, you just burned a data dvd(directly put separate video file on dvd disc) on laptop, so you can't play it on your dvd player, you should note most dvd players only play standard video dvd well, can't play data DVD, so if you want to play the burned dvd on dvd player, you need to use a right software to convert and burn your videos to a standard video DVD that can be played well on DVD player, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any videos to standard video dvd and burn to any dvd disc(DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), and the burned standard video dvd can be played well on DVD player. You can yahoo or google search RZ DVD Creator and download it, easy to use, hope it can help you.

can someone tell why media player wont play dvds? and if it will what i need to do to makeit work.
alsois there any free software out there for dvd usage?

Answer
Microsoft doesn't ship Windows Media Player with MPEG-2 decoder. I guess the licensing fee is too much for them. When you install a third-party DVD player, WMP will use the decoder.

You can download a free MPEG-2 Decoder:

Buying a portable dvd player?

poodle

I want to buy one as a present for my husband for when he flys on business (which is often) but I don't want to spend loads on it at all. What is a good deal and what do I need to look for in a portable dvd player? What features should it have and what size should it be etc.

Answer
When shopping for a portable DVD player, keep in mind how you will be using the device. For example, if you plan to use a portable solely in the car to keep the kids occupied on long road trips, then the screen size and the inclusion of an AC adapter, which will allow you to power the player via your vehicle's power outlet, are more important than the unit's weight or the life expectancy of the battery. Conversely, if you are buying a portable DVD player to take with you on long flights, look for a lightweight model with plenty of battery life. If you usually travel with a spouse or colleague, or if you have two kids, opt for a model with dual headphone jacks and a larger screen size so two people can comfortably enjoy a movie while sitting next to each other.

Self editing DVD players?

Bob

I am thinking of getting one of those self editing dvd players but i'm not sure if it actually works. In all honesty it looks t good to be true. I learned how it works but i'm wondering if they actually take out everything or if they only take out a few scenes to say its edited.

Also i am looking for a cheap one, including any subscriptions, but quality is more important.

Please help, and thankyou in advance.
Not really looking for one that i can edit myself but one that comes preedited. Like you hook it to the internet and it will skip scenes automatically. Thanks anyway though.

car dvd players?????

are these worth it? what are some good brands?

Answer
I have an older model van and didn't want to put the expense into installing a DVD player in it permanently. We looked into portable DVD players but they seemed unstable and would mount lower than we wanted (most of them mounted in-between the front head rests so that people in the back seat would have a hard time seeing the screen) When we were getting ready to drive to Utah with small children we realized we needed something to keep them entertained. Then we found a dual screen portable DVD player and we love it. It is an RCA 7" 16:9 Portable DVD Player with Dual TFT-LCD Monitors. The two screens can be mounted separately and attach to headrests. (We put one on the front seat headrest and the second on the middle seat headrest) The screen is also the DVD player so there are only the two parts with a cable running between them. The nice thing about the one that we bought is that you can take it with you into a hotel room and it will play the DVD on a regular TV and it also comes with video games that can be played either while the second screen is watching a movie or displayed on a TV. (the video games aren't high graphics but are geared towards younger kids, although we had fun playing them too. Some of them are 80's knock-offs like frogger and centipede) The $200 was well worth the hours of quiet (non-fighting) travel time. Good luck!

Download ITunes to Windows 7 64 bit?

squidball

I understand that if I download iTunes it can be problematic and near impossible to delete should a problem occur. I am looking for a program that is simple to use, reliable and inexpensive, that will allow me to rip and burn a CD, and print a playlist for a jewel box. I have tried Creator 11 w/o much success. Years ago Creator 5 Worked very well and was easy to use. Not so anymore.I am looking for a program that is simple to use, reliable and inexpensive, that will allow me to rip and burn a CD, and print a playlist for a jewel box. Any help, suggestions or ideas will be appreciated.
Thank you

Answer
Well, the best way that I know is to rip the CD directly from the default Windows Media Player, and store the files anywhere on your computer, and for printing the covers for a jewel case, then I would highly recommend using Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker, its about $22. {plus, if you have a hard time uninstalling, like you said with I-Tunes, then use I-Obit Uninstaller and Unlocker, it works like a charm to remove hard-to-remove programs} But that's just me...

DVD ripping. any help?

I have been looking for a way to rip some of my DVDs to my computer, but I can't seem to get anything to work. First I tried using VLC and I was able to get a decent video, but no audio. I'm not sure what I have to do to get audio (I played around with it for a while), so I gave up on that software.

I tried DVDFab HD after that. It worked. I have video and sound, but the videos come out jumpy and somewhat blocky. Like the frame rate is going 5 steps forward and 1 step back (if that makes sense). I have no idea how to fix this. Any advice with fixing either problems or any advice on a whole different software? Thanks.

P.S. I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit).

What is the best recommend dual DVD portable player for car?

Mari

My husband and I are taking our kids to Disney in June, I was wondering we have been window shopping for portable DVD players for the car. Preferably a dual. But for some reason every dual dvd player that we have seen has terrible reviews from other people. Out of chance does anyone have or know of a great dual portable dvd player for the car that you can say works great and really recommend? Thanks in advance.

Answer
My wife and I are lalso taking the kids to Disney in June and I have been shopping for a dual dvd system. I know that as a norm, you get what you pay for but there has to be a decently priced sytem that has good ratings. Keep me updated please if make a decision and I will do the same.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a dual screen portable dvd player for the car?

DallasDad

I am especially interested in 1) sound quality 2) screen quality and 3) ease with which dvds can be changed/loaded while driving. This is for two kids in backseat so it would need a headrest harness.

Answer
There are lots of models out there, and usually very cheap.

Might I suggest getting a model that allows for input and output and not strictly for the Car. You'll need a coupler but will be able to use these elsewhere and have the ability to have games systems or two different movies on them, but this will be a question as far as age ( since these will not have a headrest harness per say). You will need to look at good headphones or a RF modulator or mini cable or tape adapter (depending on the car).

If you gave just a little more detail i would feel better about a recommendation.

My comp did not come with a dvd player to watch movies on it is windows xp. so is it posible to download one from the internet and then play movies or do i need to go and buy and have someone install a dvd player?on my comp, thanks, Roseanna

Answer
A DVD player is hardware so it would be kinda hard to download.

If your computer did not come with a DVD player it may not have a video card able to support one either. If you have a computer repair shop in your area, check them out. You can probably get a used one for the same price as the upgrade would cost you.

Portable DvD player with USB?

rutteger1

I need a protable dvd player that has a USB port to view photos on- can you recommend a good/cheap one?

Answer
This is not a DVD player, but it might suit your needs better. Its called Cinepal, and it's made by Aluratek. It's an 8.9" mp4 player with 4GB of storage that has a USB port for flash drives and portable hard drives, an SD card slot and no DVD player. If you know how to rip DVDs to divx or MP4 or other formats, you may find this an attractive alternative, as it has a great picture and is much lighter than a DVD player.

You can watch an ad at http://www.aluratek.com/downloads/APMP100F.swf
The product page is at http://aluratek.com/product_info.php?products_id=108&display=All

They sell it for $164 but it's available elsewhere for less. Tiger had it for $120, but I don't think that's valid anymore.

Tech question on portable DVD player!?

Mike

Ok, so I have a portable dvd player that has a cigarette lighter plug and I want to know if I can get an adapter or a cord so that I can plug it into wall outlets instead. It has a 9.5 v power source.

Answer
Yes. RadioShack among others, sell 9.5 volt ac power adapters that come with a set of adapter plugs that will fit most devices. Most flee markets have used ones though finding the right plug may be hard to find if the
jack on your player is non standered. also check online for your player as the OEM may have one.

BluRay DVD players versus digital video players?

Rob C

My wife and I are thinking of buying a BluRay DVD player because we enjoy watching at least one movie per week on our HDTV. However, a friend of mine suggested that BluRay players aren't worth the investment now because the rental industry is trending towards digital distribution of movies. He suggested to to hold off and instead buy a cheaper digital video player ($100.00) from Netflix or Amazon in 6 months or so when HD digital movie distribution by Amazon and Netflix is expanded.

Any opinions from BluRay or digital video player users?

I'm pretty much a cheap bastard and if a $300 - 500 BluRay is past its prime or will be in three years or less I might as well buy a $100 digital video player and use the savings on rentals.

Answer
Some Blu-Ray players from LG and Samsung already do streaming Netflix HD if you have a fast enough internet connection (3.5 Mbps). Or you can stream Netflix though your PC, or purchase a separate device for about $100 to connect to your TV.

That is streaming video (not downloaded video like Blockbuster), so you can stop or resume at any time (even days later). The disadvantage is that backing up to review something does not quite work the same as a real disk (you can jump back a chapter, but not go in reverse), and streaming video does not have the extras that would be on a disk. Quality is excellent unless your internet connection is not quite fast enough, which could degrade the resolution.

Other brands do YouTube and will do Amazon when that becomes available.

I don't have cable or satellite, so I like the streaming video if I am out of fresh mail rental disks and there is nothing on broadcast TV but junk programs and infomercials. However, real Blu-Ray disks are best.

do you have to buy the HDMI cable if you are purchasing a DVD player?

DeeRaye

The cord needed to hook DVD player to TV will be included correct?

Answer
Do you have a HDTV? If so - you want to buy a BluRay player and not a standard def DVD player.

The prices are so low on BluRay players - it is just not worth buying a DVD player. And many of the BluRay players include things like NetFlix.

Many disk players will include some throw-away cables to get you going but these are usually not HD capable.

For a budget but decent cable go to Amazon and search for the "Media Bridge" brand.

Hope this helps.

How do I reinstall a DVD player and driver on my computer without having to reinstall windows 7?

Caleb C

The driver that I have for my DVD drive in my computer is starting to make me frustrated. The only thing my computer will do when I try to reinstall the device is it says CD Drive under the 'computer' heading and now I can't even play movies. When I go online to try and find the driver for my dvd player it won't even pull anything up. It's like the driver for my dvd player burner doesn't even exist anymore. What should I do?

Answer
it should be built into windows. try rolling back the drivers. if not, unplug the drive, fire the machine up and let windows configure the machine as needed (figure out the drive is not there anymore (will just take a few seconds). shut it down. plug it in and fire it back up. it should be detect and install the drivers. make sure the bios is set right also. if that fails, you might have to update the drivers, go advanced and check the search removable media, make sure the install disk is in. one of those should work. kinda an odd situation... what happened to the stock drivers?

Can a windows 7 computer replace a PS3 or xbox, Tivo hd, and a blu-ray and dvd player?

TOOTAl2

Answer
not really. windows 7 is able to replace your DVD player and Blu-ray player if you hook it to your television and are willing to go through the widows boot process anytime you want to watch a movie. There are DVR programs you can install that give you DVR functionality but they lack the easy interface of a dedicated TIVO. you can often find PC versions of XBOX games because they are both microsoft products but Playstation keeps a pretty tight riegn on their gaming franchises so even though you can download PS3 emulators (illegally mind you) they will never match up to using the hardware the game was designed for. If you choose to go this rought then you need a PC with Windows 7 or the new windows 8 demo version, a TV tuner card, a blu-ray drive, a PS3 emulator (again illegal), a bluetooth adaptor (for linking your PS3 and XBOX controllers), and DVR software. Your probably looking at $500-$800 depending on brand and you still would have to have a computer that has a strong enough processor and enough memory to run all of this.

Will a person in India be able to plug-and-use a US-made CD player, or are there problems w/ voltage?

ubergrobie

I need to send a CD player to a friend in India, and am wondering if there are potential problems with voltage?

Thanks! ;-)

Answer
It can not be used in India as in India all electric supply is of 220 Vol. You can do what Uma has told. Or simple thing you have to do it is in any electric shop Voltage converter will be available and you can get it for 110 Vol to 220 Vol and with this converter you can plug in and use. It is very cheap. I have DVD player, music system and other things purchased from US and I use it with the converter.

Also in US in places like New Jersey etc., 220 Vol CD player is also available and you can get it-

DVD region problem ?

GLADIATOR

i am living in India, i want to buy few national Geography DVDs from Amazon as it is not available in india. but it gives me warning that
(Your order contains at least one Region 1 (Canada and U.S.) encoded DVD. Region 1 DVDs might not play in DVD players sold in the country where this order is being shipped. Please also note that some Region 1 DVDs contain a Regional Coding Enhancement. Some of our international customers have had problems playing these enhanced discs on their âregion-freeâ DVD players )
what is this problem and will it run from my dvd player ?

Answer
All DVD's have a region code on them which will only allow certain DVD's to work in certain DVD players all over the world. India has a DVD region code of 5 so any DVD that is not a region 5 DVD will not play in your DVD player. I f you go to this website (I know, it's wikipedia) it does help!

Upscale to 1080p means that the player interpolates your regular DVD's and sends a 1080p or 1080i signal to your TV. You would have to have a 1080p TV to take advantage of this. Blue-ray DVD players also do up conversion, regular DVD's may be phased out in favor of blue ray disks ...good brands include but are not limited to Sony Samsung JVC Sharp depends on what your getting into also Denon makes excellent HT Recievers while I wouldn't buy a sony reciever myself but their TV's are excelent Denon does not make TV's...so you just need to do the reasearch man...try Cnet; ZDnet; hometheater review and other places like that on line to get the info on the top brands.

Upscaling DVD Player?

skistar42

We are looking to buy a 1080p HDTV and don't want to make the switch to Blu-Ray so we are looking into DVD Upconverters. I have a few Questions. When I look at the product pages for players online, I see "1080p Upscaling DVD player" but when I look at online reviews I see "This DVD player is equipped with progressive scan". So will these DVD players really make regular DVD's look 1080p? I have also heard that TV's can Upscale DVD's to 1080p or whatever their native resolution is. So if they upconvert, what's the point in buying a Upconverting DVD Player?

Here's one I was looking at. could you tell me if it will upconvert a regular DVD to true 1080p?
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP5982-1080p-Upscaling-Player/dp/B000N254LU/ref=pd_sim_e?ie=UTF8&qid=1204232944&sr=1-1

And the TV I was looking. Will this upconvert to 1080p by itself?
http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-TX-42F430S-1080p-LCD-HDTV/dp/B000NIDJ3E/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1204233275&sr=1-22

Answer
There are "upconverters" and "scalers". The scalers will give you a much better picture than the upconverters. The other the thing to remember is that sometimes the TV has the better "upconverter/scaler" and sometimes the DVD player has the better upconverter/scaler.

If I were you, I'd spend the money on an HDTV with superior upconverting/scaling capabilities and stick with an "average" DVD player. The extra green spent on your TV will make ALL of your video sources look better. And you might reconsider the Blu-ray Disc. You can get a decent player for around $300. The audio alone is worth the price of admission.

Help with DVD Player/Recorder !!?

D O I N K

I am looking for a DVD device that has two drives so that I can copy DVD's to one another, and also, can hook up to my VCR via a plug that I don't know of, and be able to transfer my VHS's too. Any help with what i'm looking for or a great model exactly would be awesome.

Answer
You will be much better off using a computer for DVD and VHS copying. If you don't have a DVD+R drive, get one. If you're not particularly tech-savy and don't think you can handle installing a new drive in your system - or if you only have a laptop - get an external drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151178

Now, here's the first problem: the Digital Millenium Copyright Act made it illegal to break the encryption of commercial DVDs. That means you cannot buy legal software that will copy a commercial DVD. However, it's generally accepted that it's perfectly legal under free use doctrine to make a backup of media you've purchased. So what I'm presenting here is a way to back up your DVDs and VHS movies without breaking the law.

You need to buy the Video and Audio Capture Device from ADS Tech. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815255011&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Video+Devices+++TV+Tuners-_-ADS+Technologies-_-15255011 The VACD has both an A/V in and an S-video input that you hook up your VCR or DVD player to, and a USB output that you connect to your computer. You then have the option of either ripping video to store as a file on your computer or burning the video straight onto a DVD.

Warning: this will take a long time. You will have to play every movie in its entirety to capture it onto a disc. That means it'll take you about two hours to back up your average movie, and backing up a decent-sized library of movies could take you weeks or months.

This is actually the fastest way to convert VHS to DVD, since you have to convert analog to digital. There are much, much faster ways to copy one DVD onto another (just copy the disc), but again, that breaks the law.

DVD recorder/players?

Does anyone have any information on an LG DVD Recorder / Player?

I have enough points to get either a Panasonic DVD Recorder with VCR (no other info is available) or the LG Recordable DVD Player with progressive-scan DivX/4 MPEG4 playback, editing. ( I just copied down the facts from the description, I don't know anything about them. ) I want to transfer a bunch of old VHS tapes while theyâre still in pretty good shape.
Or, should I buy a different one altogether, and use the points for something else?
My TV is a 4-year old 27â Sony Wega.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gigi

Answer
If you'd like to do any editing of your VHS tapes prior to transferring them to DVD, it would be helpful to get a machine with a built in hard drive with editing capabilities. I got a Sylvania V200F for the purpose of converting my old VHS tapes to DVD, and it's great, but I'm not sure it's being produced anymore.

I like it because I can copy a VHS tape to the hard drive, edit out anything I don't want to save, and then go from the hard drive to a DVD.

Good luck!

Burned DVD, no sound?

Jaz Lewis

Ok, I have Windows 7 on my HP Compaq 8510p. I'm trying to burn a DVD using the Windows DVD Maker program. I've wasted about 4 DVD disks so far trying to burn a movie, the picture is PERFECT, but no sound? The menu sound is working though? Now, I have already have the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack & the DivX Codec Pack along with the DivX Converter. I've already checked my sound settings in the Device Manager and properties. I've tried everything, so what exactly am I doing wrong? I've even tried using the Windows Media Centre program to burn my movie DVD, but still, no sound. I've tried it on our Blu-Ray player, DVD player and also tried playback on my laptop. What steps should I try next?
Also, my movie file is an AVI. format file.

Answer
Windows DVD Maker program requires external codecs, and I never used it.
Why not to try the software I use called "ConvertXtoDVD".
It will convert avi videos to DVD format and burn directly to DVD.
http://www.i-burner.com/convertxtodvd.php
All you need to do, is to drag and drop your videos to the program. Click convert then after it finishes it will burn directly to DVD disc.

Is there any region free player software for me to play on windows 7?

Charlse

When I try to play my DVD, the system always inform me to set a region code, sometimes it still suck to play DVD player software. What about another one

Answer
All the above is good advice - there are other choices too - plus you can get a small free app to do it in windows media player. (Major Geeks may have it)
Try AfterDawn.com, Ask Leo, Gizmo's, or Widows Club for sage advice.

There are also free codec packs which may/may not help you (Klite is biggest, but not the only one)

My windows 7 media player never asks me to set a region code. Sorry, I can't remember how/if I actually tweaked it.

Is my DVD player multi-region?

Haylie

I'm looking to buy a Region 2 disk, but I can't tell whether the label on my DVD player instruction manuel(in the following link) means the DVD player is multi-region, or whether that's just places of distribution and different country models or etc. Could anyone help me out?
Thanks!

(Proper link, I screwed up the other one)

Answer
You can try mail/phone to your dvd player manufacturer or seller for region info about your DVD player.

Or you can try to make a region free DVD from your region 2 DVDs, then play region free DVD on your DVD player, you can try RZ DVD COPY, it can remove region code limit and copy DVD to an other new DVD disc, work well, easy to use.

You can download RZ DVD COPY from:
http://www.rzdvdcopy.com

hope it can help you.

Can you buy a multi-region dvd player or region 2 or 4 and use it in America? If so, where?& BQ .?

Kevin

Also, where can you find Region 2 (Europe), in PAL format dvds & Region 4 (Australia and New Zealand), in PAL format dvds with the player or players? Is there a special store in the United States besides the internet to buy them and would they work on an Region 1 (Canada and United States) outlets?

Answer
Some, not all, US DVD players can be made region code free by entering a code on the remote so you may not need a European DVD player although the number of Euro DVD players that are able to be made region code free is higher. The internet is the obvious place to find a multi-region player but there may be some European models available from US Service personnel who have been stationed in Germany. You'll more than likely need a transformer from 230V to 115V as most DVD players tend to be only single voltage. Check http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/ to see if your current player or potential purchase has a remote code to change the region code to region code free (Region Code 0 or 9). PAL/NTSC is not an issue.

i have a jvc xv-n410 dvd player. what video format does is accept?

iRage

i want to burn a homemade family video and i need to convert .avi files into a format aloud in the dvd im not sure what it is ive looked up file formats for it but all i see is mp3 on the list.

Answer
Most set top DVD Recorder's use the DVD+R..blank media..
Check your owner's manual..
The DVD-Recorder will create a MPEG-2 DVD-video..
...sometimes the result is a DVD-video that will only play on the machine that created it..
===
So..check your owner's manual for specifics..
===
I use DV-avi for all my DVD-video projects on a PC..
..Those files are "rendered"..into MPEG-2 for Playback..
===
Next..is a audio file..
MP-3 was the very first audio file for DVD..
Now-a-days..your DVD Project will be created in Digital Stereo..
On a PC..I use..WMA,,MP3,,WAV,,they are all compatible with DVD Projects in a Video Editor..
===
Rendering is about your software..
There are 2-types of DVD Blank Media..(+) and (-)
Plus or Dash..
Computer's will allow both..the Dash Format is slower to load..
===
Most Home Set Top Boxes are useing the Plus Format(+)..
DVD+R..(DVDplus-R)
===
Depending on your file..the video will have poor resolution..
A camcorder creates a DV-file..when you upload that to your PC..it becomes a DV-avi file..
..all editing is done in DV-avi..also always SAVE your Projects in DV-avi..your software will render that into Best Quality Playback video..(MPEG-2)
===
The NEW 1080p is comparable to(DV-avi) as the Best Quality Video Playback--however---1080p or 720p is horrible in the editing process..
You can use 1080p..its just more difficult to make miniscule--editing tricks.

Video Format for DVD Players?

kylerudolp

What video format works with most DVD players NTSC or PAL

Answer
Both NTSC and PAL are TV system, NTSC is the TV system used in North America and most of South America, PAL is the TV system mostly used Europe.

Most DVD Player only recorgnize standar video DVD, standard video DVD isn't a single video file, it include a group file, VOB, IFO, BUP.

You can yahoo or google search and download "RZ DVD Creator", work well on my computer, easy to use, good quality, most functionality, hope it can help you.

Why does my burnt dvd work on the pc but not in a dvd player?

Q.

Answer
The format you put on the DVD is not recognized by your DVD player for your T.V. Use the following below.

Here are the tools I use to copy DVDS for my own personal back ups. I know some folks do not trust some sites due to all the junk spyware out there and virus stuff. But look at my answer history, you will see that I can be trusted. D/load the free protection I recomend. I trust the programs I mention below and use them. I also believe in try before you buy.

Pc DVD PLAYER NOT OPENING?

Q. I have a dvd in my PC. It was playing just fine a few minutes ago. Just now it won't open PLEASE HELP! What do I do? Please explain throughly! Thanks! :(
If I click the eject button on the DVD player the light turns green and starts making a noise. Like BBMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Then it turns off again. If I put the pin in nothing happens and if I go to computer and click eject from there it turns on and starts making nois and turns off again.
It's a HP DVD WRITER DVD630

Answer
On the DVD drive itself there should be a little hole, get a pin and poke it in the hole, this should activate the emergency release and your dvd drive drawer should pop open.

If not, go into 'my computer' and right click on the dvd drive, then click 'eject' to see if that works.

EDIT:
Try using the end of s straightened paper clip and applying more pressure, if it doesn't work with the computer on, try turning the computer off and doing it. It should open a little so that you can open it fully to remove the DVD, though when it closes again it may not open again when you try and open the drive the normal way.

If the disk is jammed or broken inside the drive, access may require the removal of the drive's outer case. If this is necessary, it is very likely that the drive will have to be replaced.

At the moment i am out of ideas, i will edit if i can think of another solution to try

Babies/Kids and DVD players in the car?

Q. When my son turns a year and can face forward in the car, we were thinking of getting a DVD player installed. Do you think they are helpful in keeping kids occupied on long trips or a waste of money? Thanks.

Answer
I LOVE my DVD players.

I take my kids to daycare before work and pick them up after work. It give me 15-20 minutes of quiet before and after work that I absolutely need. Otherwise, it's "I want my window down! I want it up! I am cold! I am hot! What's that outside?!"

Plus their grandparents are 4 hours away. 2-3 movies later and we're there. Other than that, they get VERY antsy. They complain and want out! Every time we visit, we get 2 movies at target (less than $4.) It's worth it.

Your one year old may be too little for tv but definitely by two, your child will recognize Elmo and Barney! We've got a ton of them and they watched them over and over again. Elmo is nice b/c the actual show is really short and has lots of babies in it.

Plus my kids fall asleep quickly in the car. If we're out and about and they're getting cranky in the car, I'll turn it on. They'll be focused on it for 10 minutes and then I'll look back and they'll be sleeping.

And NO my kids aren't zombies. When we're home they don't watch any tv. They can go the whole day without tv. They would rather play with their blocks or color. Only when i want to get some bills done does the tv come on. Gives them a bit distraction so I can do chores.

And NO I don't feel as though they're missing out looking outside. I choose to have the DVD on. But some days I don't. Definitely I turn it off if they're acting up. Before our destination, I'll turn it off so they know to we're close and I don't let them finish their show when we stop.

Anyway, when we're on a long trip, my husband or myself will hop in back and we'll watch our own movie while the kids are sleeping.

We tried attaching the playstation to it but it's really nauseating.

We have two kids and got our DVD players at Sam's Club. They can both watch the same movie or watch two different movies. By hitting one button, their movies can switch screens without taking out the DVDs.

i wouldn't recommend getting a car/van with a DVD installed. Not recommended by Consumer Reports. For the price of installation, you can get two DVDs. Plus if it breaks, you don't have to send your car to the dealer. It's not hard to hit the play button. I just reach my arm around and hit the biggest button which is play. My four year old can reach the buttons on hers and doesn't need my help anyway.

What factors should I consider for a Car DVD player?

Do you have any suggestion on what factors should I consider to get a Car Head unit? What's the importance? Thanks!

Answer
The first thing you have to think about is where to buy the automotive DVD or component from. You could buy it from a bricks and mortar car audio store, which should be able to fit you with the system you need. You could also buy it on the internet from a Car DVD Players wholesaler, a source which often provides discount car DVD players for lower prices. However, there are still some key questions you will need to ask.

Will I get all the components I need?

There is nothing worse than paying good money for a car dvd player, going to install it and finding you still need to buy the speakers, TV tuners, TV antennas, wires, brackets or other components before it can be installed. After all, what is the point of buying an in dash car TV DVD player if you don't get the tuner or aerial to make it work.

Who will install it?

This depends on where the car DVD player is being purchased. If purchased from a bricks and mortar store then it should be offered by the vendor as electronic goods cost more at stores than they do online.

Can I connect my USB devices or flash memory cards to the player?

More music and data you want shown in vehicles is stored on computers and USB and an increasing number of car DVDs have a plug-in function. These USB ports can also be a useful point to install Bluetooth cellular car phone kits.

What formats does it support?

Will it support MP3s or MPEGs? What about AVI files? If you are choosing a system that will accept USBs and flash memory cards it is always good to check that the system will accept the format of programs you store most often on flash.

What region DVD's does this player accept?

DVD's are becoming increasingly multi-regional but that doesn't necessarily mean that every car DVD player will play every DVD. It is always a good idea to check which region of DVDs you are actually to make sure your dvd player car audio in dash unit is compatible with your collection.

How big is the screen?

The cost of LCD screens have come down a lot in last 12 months, as seen by Panasonic's 150-inch LCD screen showcased at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, which cost the same as the 109 inch screen the company put on display at the show the previous year. As a result, in dash car TV DVD players with 6.5 and 7 inch screens are considered to be the norm, and should be extremely affordable.

It's got a screen, but is it a touch screen?

We all know what a touch screen is, it is one of the things that has made the iPod such a big hit globally. Touch screens are becoming increasingly common and automotive dvds with touch screens should not be astronomically priced. After all, there is nothing worse than hunting for a tiny knob when trying to change music whilst on the road.

Considering the functions you would like the Car TV DVD player to perform and finding out several pieces of pertinent information are essential if you want to get a good car DVD system that suits your needs.

There should be more factors to consider, such as the interfaces, the addtional Bluetooth, Ipod entertainment, the warrenty of the unit, etc, etc. It all based on your needs. As far as I konw, you can get different Car DVd player in Eonon, with 2 year of warrenty, it's really a good place for car stereo fans to hunt! Good luck!

Windows Media Player video help?

Insane Spo

I have been trying to play an old home made video on my new laptop (this video has played on other computers before) but won't play on this one because it said something about it being an unsupported file type. It's a .dvd file. Is there some sort of download I could get for Windows Media Player to get this DVD to work?

Answer
You probably miss the DVD codec which is .Vob and .TS. You have two solutions: either you update and make sure to check mark all codecs boxes, or you get a free alternative for it. I have found KMP and VLC to be very reliable. Some other useful codecs are Mpeg (1, 2 or 3).

1) Codecs pack (9.59MB): http://www.filehippo.com/download_codec_pack/download/32e47ccb9db1905814e3a137e939ce6e/
If you have Windows 7 here sre the right codecs (26.47MB): http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_7_codecs/download/8089c345f6aa8529b402d330a0e6a0c2/
Windows Vista codecs ( 21.96MB): http://www.filehippo.com/download_vista_codec_package/download/b9fb27f0fdabbe49a255b047acc061ee/

i have a dvd recorder and an old dvd/vcr player.?

Corey B

can i record a dvd movie from the dvd/vcr player to my burning using rca cables, i know if you use it to record from a vcr tape the picture fades in and out just wanted to knojw if you can do it using having the video and auding into the input of the dvd recorder from the output of the dvd/vcr combo and it will work just fine, is that correct?

Answer
Unless specified on manufacturer's details, it should work.
But is recommended to use gold link RCA cables to ensure signal transfer, and, to have the source the most clean way you can. I mean, VCR heads should be clean, and the DVD player also.

That can assure you the transfer and less blanks.

vcr to dvd player?

abc123

I have a vcr and a dvd player/recorder what tool will i need to hook the vcr to my dvd player without hooking it up to the TV attanta wich my dvd player is already hooked up to?

Answer
Most TVs now have multiple input jacks, so you can directly connect your VCR to a separate input.

If your TV does not, you should be able to cable the VCR, DVD player, and DVD in series, provided that your DVD player/recorder has multiple inputs (most do). Connect the VCR output to a DVD input with appropriate cables. You'll be running the VCR signal through the DVD player.

If you cannot cable the VCR output to the DVD input and if your TV only has one input then you will need an A/B switch for your TV input. An A/B switch is a 2 input (one being the DVD player and the other the VCR) to 1 output (leading to the TV), and you switch back and forth between VCR and DVD. But you shouldn't need it.

DVD Blu-ray will not work in my laptop DVD player windows 7?

Daniel Woo

My Toshiba Laptop Windows 7 will not recognize a new Blu-ray DVD I just bought. Says it doesn't support this kind of file. Any suggestions or downloads I can get so I can watch this movie ?

Answer
First off, there is no such thing as a DVD Blu Ray. They are two difference technology, DVD or Blu Ray. To play a Blu Ray disc you will need to have a Blu Ray disc player. Blu Ray disc player can however play the DVD. Hope this will help you out.

Is it OK to play Blu Ray Discs on a DVD player?

natelovest

I was wondering if it is possible to use blu-ray discs in an ordinary disc player. I have an HP HDX 16 laptop with a DVD RW drive.

Answer
Think about it. If you could do that, why would anyone buy a Blu-ray player? Blu-ray and DVD use different wave length lasers. The Blu-ray laser is a narrower beam, which allows it to read the smaller pits on the Blu-ray disc as well as the wider pits on the DVD. The DVD laser is too wide to read the smaller pits. See the wikipedia article on Blu-ray if you want the technical details.

Enhanced quality of dvd on Blu-Ray player?

user350044

Blu-ray players are suppose to enhance the picture quality when watching a regular dvd. Is the quality really noticable or very little? Do you think purchasing a blu-ray player for the dvd enhancement is a good idea?

Answer
Grumpy Mac is right and wrong. Blu-ray players do a credible job of upscaling DVD and therefore improving the DVD image relative to a standard DVD player. They can't give you "real" HD. While upscaled DVD images are technically HD they can't contain all the information in a real HD image like Blu-ray.

That said, there are lot's of considerations to take into account before deciding to buy a Blu-ray player.

First, if you are going to continue to watch DVDs (and not buy or rent Blu-ray disks) you don't need a Blu-ray player ... you need an upscaling DVD player (it's about 1/3 the cost of a Blu-ray player).

Second, Blu-ray disks require a minimum moderate sized 1080p HDTV (e.g. 37" or larger) to provide maximum benefit. There is no advantage to Blu-ray (or an upscaling DVD player) on a standard TV.

Third, Blu-ray disks offer superior sound to DVDs because of advanced audio formats. ... but you must have a good audio system to hear the difference.

Fourth, Blu-ray disks are, and will remain, more expensive than DVDs. They are a premium priced (and performance) DVD alternative.

Fifth, unless you watch close enough to see the difference (many HDTV viewers sitt too far from the screen), Blu-ray won't look much better than DVD.

So ... a Blu-ray player is a good bet if you are comfortable paying extra for Blu-ray disks and intend to slowly switch to Blu-ray, but if you intend to stick to DVDs consider an upscaling DVD player instead. Just recognize that any improvement won't be startling.
