I just bought a dodge Durango crew 2012 and the kids hate having to wait for me to put the car on park to watch a movie

Answer
its not illegal to remove or modify the dvd disable function. but its illegal for you to be distracted by the player or radio or gps while driving as you could also be ticketed for distracting other drivers if they are able to view the movie through your windows at night...look it up. google stories about morons watching porn who are now registered sex offenders because children in other cars where able to view the screen. more importantly you asking how to disable a feature that is there to help you keep your kids safe while your driving. just because they hate waiting ? long trips are also a good time to talk to your kids too . so i wont be telling how to do it. my kids where allowed to bring books and a small clip on book light.

Blu ray players and viewing distance?

Yoda

I've read alot about proper viewing distances for viewing blu ray movies and HDTV. My viewing distance is way outside of the range. I have a 65" RP CRT which is 1080i, and my viewing distance is about 16 feet away. Is buying a blu ray a player a waste of my money or should I invest in a good upconvert dvd player instead.

Answer
Invest in a Blu-ray player as the quality is great. Even on my HDCP 20" 720p monitor the difference between DVD and Blu-ray is huge, you won't notice the bad quality that DVD has until you watch a Blu-ray Disc movie, even the bad discs are good.

The interactivity is also good if you buy a bonus view player as Blu-ray Disc gives PiP, and Hi-def audio, and upscaled DVD isn't anything as good as Blu-ray Discs. Anyway a DVD upscaler can't upscale audio of interactivity.

However do you have a HDMI connection, because over component which is analouge the studios can freely downconvert the signal into DVD quality, due to the Image Constaint Token, or deny to play in the near future (Digital Only Token (DOT)). Some third parties say that they won't use it until 2010 to 2012, but it is not confirmed, and the studios can use it if they wish, anyway since the format war is over, it might be used. Check wheither you have HDMI, as far as I know not many CRT's have HDMI.

16 Feet away is a huge distance but, since you have a large screen it will look a lot better than DVD, but 10 Feet will be ideak for you.

Blu-ray is great, but make sure you have HDMI, as component isn't future proof. Also buy a PS3 as it's cheap and it can do Bonus View and BD LIVE where most players can't, be upgrade only PS3's and PC Drives can be upgraded.

But since you have a HUGE screen Blu-ray will be a good investment, even if you don't have HDMI (as only Warner hasn't really said wheither they will not use it, and 2010-2012 is a long time), and also if you don't have HDMI I don't think upconvert DVD players can upconvert with component, they might be able to with VGA, not sure though.

But....... if you don't won't to spend money on Blu-ray pickup a HD DVD player with HDMI, for a sweet upconverter, and you can take advantage of the clearance of over 300 HD DVD titiles like Harry Potter, Transformers , Poseidon , Shrek, Troy and much more, and build up a massive library in you home. It has to be noted that if you won't buy Blu-ray, HD DVD players are the BEST upconverters, and they are going dead cheap though to the format war, and it is always neglected that HD DVD players can upscale very well, but it will always be second rate compared with Blu-ray, or a native HD source.

In the end it depends with you, but if you are going for Blu-ray buy a PS3 with a HDMI connection, and check wheither you have HDMI, as you won't get upscaled DVD's without it most of the time. Still for the time being Blu-ray can do HD via analouge component up to 1080i (which you have), and VGA can do full HD ( no point for 1080i though).

So have a think about it, in the end it's about your budget, but since you have a large TV Blu-ray should be better than DVD even if it is upscaled, anyway you can't be sure that all DVD upscalers are good, although HD DVD players are good upscalers.

But on an upside Blu-ray has better picture quality, better audio (dependant on players decoders for audio) and more interactivity (dependant on Player Profiles).

How can you connect a standalone dvd player to your PC and watch movies?

Answer
You can:

A) Install a TV tuner card which will allow you to not only plug in a DVD player or VHS player, it will also allow you to view TV on the PC as long as you plug in either cable or an antenna.

There are many different ones but here is an example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116007

Or

B) You can use a similar USB device, does pretty much the same thing but uses the USB port and you don't have to open the computer

Like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116034

But why would you want to??? Doesn't your PC have a DVD drive?, if not you can install one or get an external USB one.

where can i get information on using dvd player on pc?

Q. i was wandering if i have dvd player on my pc can i use it to play a dvd movie.

I am looking to buy a portable DVD player for a long car ride. I am looking at the portable players that have two screens. I saw one at Sam's Club. You can use it so two people can watch the same movie on two screens, or each TV can be used separately.
I might just end up getting two separate units, one for each child. I have owned an Audiovox portable DVD player in the past, and it broke a few months later. Are there any other good brands out there? Do anyone of you have experience with the two screen type? Thank you!

Answer
Read the reviews from customers...

When do you use your portable DVD player?

bkirby222

I'm looking at buying a portable DVD player for my girlfriend and I to use but other than the slow weekends when I work by myself....what other times are good for me to use it. I want to justify the purchase. THANKS!

Answer
I use it when I'm traveling. It's great in better hotels that have TV's with S-video input. You can hook it to the set and watch on a larger screen. I also use it on long flights if I haven't brought my notebook computer.

It can also double as a DVD player for another TV in your house. I think they're well worth cost since they've dropped so much in recent years.

Is it true that DVD players have been downgraded since 2006?

best dvd players reviews on Asda HDMI DVD Player - Upscales DVDs to Full 1080 HD customer reviews ...
best dvd players reviews image

J.O.I.

As a former DVD collector and home theatre salesperson, I remember hearing that in order to sell more Blu-ray and HD-DVD around 2006, all upcoming DVD players' capable resolution would be scaled down from 720p to 480p. The best DVD player I've owned is from 2005 and is capable of 1080i via component video.

Now I tell customers this, that older DVD players were actually better resolution-wise than those that have come since but I'm having trouble finding legitimate sources to back up this claim. I'm not sure how current upscaling players compare, either.

Can you help me find something?

Answer
Keep in mind that DVD video resolution was only at the 480P. DVD players prior to that date never up scaled the video, now they up scale to 720P. Also you can not see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen smaller than a 46". Most major manufacturer have stopped producing stand alone DVD players due to the Blu Ray disc player can play the DVD and up scale to 1080P if you have a DVD. Also the higher end players will do a better job up scaling than those bargain price unit. They never did down grade the DVD players. You are providing wrong information to the customer. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. I recommend you read Home Theater Magazine reviews on all products and the pro and con of each technology. Hope this will help you out.

I want to use a dvd player with a computer monitor.

Answer
Yes, but you more than likely will need an adapter, as most DVD players I've seen only have composite (yellow AV), S-video, and component outputs, and most monitors only have VGA, DVI, or HDMI inputs. Although I have seen some monitors with composite inputs.
You may need one of these: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=s&hl=en&q=vga+to+s-video&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=15223743978350771745&ei=oBrZSeupHpestgf73KnhDw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&resnum=1&ct=result#ps-sellers
And a set of speakers of course.

Is there a way to connect a home dvd player to a computer monitor?

Is there a way to connect a home dvd player to a computer monitor? If so are there converter cables available or instructions on how to make your own?
Add a reply

Answer
In a nutshell... YES!

More broadly, the method all depends on what you have available...
1. What output(s) does the Player have?
2. What input(s) does the monitor have?

If your output=input, then all you would need is a cable to connect them together e.g. s-video output and s-video input, all you need is the s-video cable (usually the cable is of male-male type)
There are multiple common input/output connectors for these devices:
1. S-video (already mentioned) (both devices)
2. RCA (RF type connector) (both devices)
3. Optical - (both devices - although these are very rare on a monitor)
4. VGA (15 pin connector - monitors only - have not heard of this on a DVD player)
5. DVI (most commonly on LCD, TFT and plasma monitors)

Signals are either anologue or digital in nature so if your output is not equal to your input then you would need to insert a modulator between the two devices so that signal can be converted and this should sort this problem out for you.

You would need to identify the inputs & outputs and check with you local Radio Shack type store and check if there is a modulator for connecting that specific output with that specific input.

Answer
Things that will be rare or extinct, especially the last of something.
A gallon of gas. By then it will either be extinct or sold for a billion dollars a gallon. ***
A library cards. **
Paper items. A sears catalog, a set of encyclopedias, news papers, library cards, a dictionary, a dictionary of slang, a phone book, computers for dummies, cell phones for dummies, etc **
Paper forms, income tax, job applications, medical, etc. **
Plastic items. Prepaid credit card, drivers license and other id's, membership cards, club cards, savings/discount cards, etc. **
Seeds, as many varieties as you can fine. Especially trees and grass **

Anything that has just been or is about to be banned or eliminated due to political correctness, addictive health issues, public safety issues, new laws, protests, etc.
A carton of cigarettes. **
Guns- hand guns assault rifles, but don't include ammunition, it's too unstable.
Caffeine products and pills. **, ***
The wrappers and menus from fast food joints like McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC **
Candy wrappers. **

Collectible items and memorabilia especially newly invented or first issue items
A set of a book with both hard and soft cover versions, that just came out and is on the best sellers list. Be sure and include the best sellers list too. **
A set of coins and bills from the year it is buried. **
Comic books, DVDs, Books, Toys, etc. *, **
A bottle of wine ***

Tech stuff that is constantly changing
A TV, a radio, an MP3 player, a game console with game discs. *, **
A record player, a tape recorder, a CD player, a DVD player, a Blu-ray player, etc each with appropriate media. *, **
A cell phone with pictures, movies and music, etc on it. *
A laptop computer with web page archives of new popular sites *
A copy of the latest version of Microsoft OS and other products.
A blank floppy disk *
A thumb drive *
A GPS *

Common everyday items that will change by then.
Bills- electric, phone, insurance, utilities, rent, etc **

Currently trendy clothes and appeal.

Things that are changing to protect the environment
Disposable but not biodegradable, diapers, an empty lighter, razors, plastic bags- grocery, trash, storage, etc. Plastic containers bottles, packaging, containers, etc. Cleaning supplies- Air fresheners, Swiffer duster/mops, soap, cleaning products, etc. **, ***
Light bulbs, all types, Incandescent, old florescent, compact florescent, and led.

Disposable and biodegradable, diapers, plastic bags- grocery, trash, etc. Cleaning supplies, green products, recycled products, etc. **, ***

Note- When burying these things they need to be sealed up properly so they don't degrade.

* Anything with batteries have to have them removed and an AC adapter included as the batteries won't last and corrosion will destroy anything they are in and don't forget the built in batteries in things. Also capacitors are bad except for solid state ones. And magnetic media will not last ie- hard drives floppy disks. Solid state media that doesn't loses it's information after x years should be used. Also include all cables, adapters, and manuals.

** Anything that is paper or otherwise degradable needs to be vacuum sealed. Anything that will fade should have a reference photo printed on and with permanent media and ink.

*** Corrosives, gas etc, need special containers, probably glass jars or bottles with a sealing method that won't degrade. Maybe melting the opening shut. Most lids/caps will degrade.

Is a portable DVD player worth having fixed and where do I get it fixed?

best portable dvd players for children on My Favorite Cute Kids Viral Videos # 1 - 5
best portable dvd players for children image
Q. My son recently bought me a used portable DVD player from a Pawn shop for my birthday.
He spent all his money on this gift, and he was simply beaming about it.
Personaly I think there should be a rule against selling children broken items in pawn shops but thats just my opinion.
Anyway...
The DVD player boots up but wont spin.
So, my question is... Is this problem fixable for under 30.00?

I'm willing to have it fixed so my son will keep feeling like he did something great but my money is very tight.

Also where do I look in the phone book for a portable DVD repair place. I've called many places and they all say they dont fix portable DVD's.

Answer
Usually repair costs for small electronics are not worth the money because you can buy a brand new one for roughly the same price or just a little bit more. And if you wait a bit, it would have even more features on it!

Try some TV repair stores.

Answer
There are lots of standards regarding video format, disk format, file names etc that have to be followed to make a playable DVD. DVD Flick is a free app that will do all the conversions and DVD burning for you, and it's free.

What format does a video need to be in so a DVD player can play it?

0080900

Because my friend has a portable DVD player, he wants to burn videos that he downloads so he can watch them on his portable DVD player

Thanks

Answer
The video needs to be in DVD compliant MPEG-2 but you also need to conform to folder and file naming standards as well as using the UDF disk format and supplying information to navigate the DVD. The easiest thing is to use an app like DVDFlick to sort out the details - it's free!

I have been waiting for my old DVD player to die before getting a blu-ray player. It isn't dead yet, but is certainly getting close. I have heard that many blu-ray players are capable of streaming videos from sites like Netflix, but I'm not sure what the details about it are:

1. Do I need a separate internet account from what I use on the computers in my house?
2. Does it operate by Wi-Fi or do I need to plug it directly into the internet line/modem?
3. Do blu-ray players come with different levels of processor/memory? I'd want one that will stream without hangups.
4. Is 3D capability worth getting? I would only rent or stream movies, so no permanent collection of 3D films.
5. I'm looking at also getting a new TV, as my old one is one of the early model HDTVs and is heavy and getting old. Any recommendations for a TV and Blu-ray that work well together? I'm trying to stay below $500, but will look up to $1,000 if it makes a big difference in quality.

Answer
1. No it uses the same
2. That depends on the bluray player itself. Some have wifi built it and some require you buy an additional dongle.
3. They pretty much stream the same
4. Yes it is, but the TV AND bluray both need to have that capability
5. Not really, just dont get one that is too cheap. You get what you pay for

What is a good blue ray player for streaming media.?

I know this sounds weird, but hear me out. I have a Sony upconverting DVD player, Sony receiver (no HDMI or video inputs), and an Olevia HDTV. I need to use the HDMI cable from the DVD to the TV for 1080i upconversion. Then, use the optical audio connection between the DVD and receiver for surround sound. My question, will the DVD player output audio on the optical line with HDMI attached? Is there a setting I have to change for this? Any help is appreciated.

Answer
I also have a Sony upconverting DVD player and a Sony receiver. I have HDMI inputs on my Sony receiver, but I don't use it because it only just passes the sound through to the TV. I do not get any sound from my receiver through the DVD HDMI connection. I've checked the manual, and it confirms this is the way my Sony receiver is supposed to work. To get surround sound on my system, I hook the HDMI cable directly from the DVD to the TV and the optical out to my receiver. This, I believe, is what you are proposing doing with your system, and therefore, I'd have to say it should work. As far as the settings, you would have to read your specific manuals to figure out the settings. You will also have to turn off the sound on your TV when you want to use your receiver with the DVD player. Otherwise you will get an echo effect.

Will video quality transmitted from HDMI to VGA suffer?

I'm wanting to connect a dvd player(hdmi) to a ceiling mounted projector(vga). Will the conversion degrade the quality of the picture? The two devices are about 30 feet apart, so I figure, get the shortest hdmi cable I can, connect it to the conversion box and run the rest of the length with vga. Would this length deteriorate the signal?

Answer
It will work, but why don't you just use the component output to VGA? No conversion, no loss of quality.

Answer
Most up conversions are cheap so i suppose it wont matter.
However gold tipped plug and a nice HD will help!

Upconvertering is the way to go now because BRay is so expensive.

How to modify my vcd player to be a dvd player ?

Q. I have old vcd player and i do not have money to buy dvd player
So how to modify it ?

Answer
You can't. At least not without spending a great deal more money than it would cost to actually buy a DVD player. DVD players can be bought at yard sales for about $5.00, or at second-hand shops such as Goodwill for about $10.00. You can get new ones at Walmart for less than $50.00.

The optics for a VCD player are identical to a CD. DVD uses something different, so you would need to change these. The transport mechanism is also different, as is the CODEC. The computer would be controlling different mechanisms, and is a dedicated controller, so that would need to be changed.

About the only things you would be able to keep are the tray on which the disk is placed, the buttons in the front, the case for the player and the jacks to connect to your TV. Really, you would be building a DVD player from scratch.

Buy a DVD player, it's cheaper.

How to remove the password of a dmg file?

I have a dmg file (3.7 GB) which is a video and I can play it on my mac, I am trying to burn it on a dvd so i can play it on a dvd player or my playstation, i am able to successfully burn it but it still doesn't play neither on a DVD player nor my playstation, i tried a pc too but still doesn't read it...the dmg file is encrypted, I was wondering if this was the problem, will decrypting solve this or there is another issue... any suggestion is very much appreciated!

Answer
To find the password of any encrypted file, contact the person who made it. I wish there was some other way, but there is not. The reason for the password is so you cannot use it without the password. The guy didn't put a password on it just to make you look around on websites and ask here at Yahoo Answers and waste half a day. He did it to STOP YOU FROM USING THE FILE. Why would he do that? No idea. Ask him.

"I have a dmg file (3.7 GB) which is a video"
Not really true. A DMG file is a disk image. The file INSIDE the disk image COULD be a movie file--or not. If it is a bunch of files, such as "VIDEO_TS" and others, it is a group of files that together make a DVD. Typically, you simply drag those files to a blank DVD and click the burn icon. To tell us what the heck is in the disk image, double-click it to mount it, and look at the file extension of the file (extension is the part AFTER the dot).

If this DMG has the folder "VIDEO_TS" and such, you can extract a compressed movie file from it using Handbrake.

To use a compressed movie file in Windows 7, these formats work....

"Windows Media Player 12 has built-in support for many popular audio and video formatsâincluding 3GP, AAC, AVCHD, MPEG-4, WMV, and WMA. It also supports most AVI, DivX, MOV, and Xvid files." --from the 1st link below

If the stuff inside the DMG is not a complete set of folders/files for a DVD, but is instead a compressed movie file, you can still use that file to make a DVD movie disc, although the quality will typically be lower than that of a commerical DVD movie disc. To make a DVD movie disc on a Mac....

-- If your computer is not 2011 or later model, it came with iDVD (which happens to be discontinued now). Use it. iMovie is the app that came with your Mac for editing movies. Then it has an option to Export to iDVD, which has a Help menu, and if that doesn't answer all your questions, use support.apple.com for "iDVD menus" or whatever your question is about.

-- If your 2011 or later computer came with no iDVD, use DVDStyler. It is a free (not a demo / trial) open-source alternative to iDVD for Intel Macs. It has most of the same options as iDVD, but not as many cool themes.

How do i use the Burn app on Mac os x to burn dvd?

i have lots of movies in .AVI format that i want to burn to disc so i can watch them in my dvd player. I tried doing what i thought but the dvd player said the format was wrong. please help i thought this was simple??

Answer
Hello, luvlifegiz23.
You didn't mention which computer you have. Is it Apple? Did it come with a DVD burner? Apple provided iMovie and iDVD which is EVERYTHING you need EXCEPT the codecs for the outdated AVI format. Get that by downloading Perian, link below. Perian will enable your Apple programs to use AVI and FLV (Youtube) files. You don't have to download any of those other things. That is not to say those other apllications won't work. They may do the job as well, but why spend time learning some off-the-wall applications to duplicate the abilities you have in iMovie and iDVD?

Step 1: Download and install Perian. It simply provides the conversion software that works in the background. You don't ever need to do anything with it.

Step 2: Open iMovie, choose"New Project", and choose where to save the project. {a project has the movie file, plus any special effects files you add from iMovie that can be merged into the final DVD movie}. Go to File > Import. After you import the AVI file, move the thumbnail(s) to the bottom of the iMovie window to arrange them in the Clip Viewer. Add transitions or titles if you need them by following the iMovie Help.

Step 3: When done, click the iDVD button at the right to add chapter markers, if you need them.

Step 4: When done, click the "Create iDVD Project" button to launch iDVD. Use iDVD Help to learn how to add a menu and chapters.

Step 5: When done, click the burn button. You will get a message to insert a blank DVD. Use Verbatim brand if you have any trouble with other brands (big name is no guarantee when it comes to DVD quality).
