Has Apple released whether the DVD Player application will be available on the iPad?

mothercary

I know it obviously won't be able to play DVD's, but there might be a way to connect a DVD player to it. This would be an alternative to filling up the small hard drive with iTunes library.

Answer
DVD support will never come to iPad and very soon it will disappear from many netbooks to make it lighter.

If you want more memory , there are plenty of apps available that streams video, audio from home computer over Wi-Fi or 3G. You don't have to be on the same network.

Besides, you can also get some memory on Box and Drop Box. Both have FREE apps for iphone/iPad.

DVD is in last phase of its life anyway.

NetBooks can never match the quality of iPad. Accelerometer based gaming interface with HD graphics makes it incredible. iWork is immaculate on it and it costs only $30. On netbooks MS Office cost somewhere near $115.

Thousand of wonderful apps make iPad a stupendous gadget. iPad has apps like YouTube,DailyMotion,Metacafe,TV.net and many thousand more. You can download files,Audio,Video,Books,Comics,.rar file, exe software right from iPad.
There are many apps available to download.
iPad is much more useful and than any netbook

You can watch full length movies, full episodes of TV shows, thousands of Animation movies and all kinds of video ONLINE for FREE.
You dont need FLASH support to play video content. R.I.P FLASH
All the websites are recoding video content in HTML 5.And iPad supports HTML 5

what is the best dvd player for mac?

Answer
Do you mean DVD player software? Or a DVD drive?

Mac OS X comes with an application called DVD Player. VLC (free download) is also a good player.

If you mean DVD drive, I'm afraid I can't be of much help since all my Macs have built-in DVD drives.

What are the pros and cons of buying a more expensive DVD player compared to a cheap one?

Andy

Answer
Today, 90% of the DVD players use the same DVD processor.

Cheaper players usually support MORE media and formats. They simply skip the royalty payments!!

Assuming exactly the same features, a more expensive player may last slightly longer. At this point, I would buy the cheapest DVD player with component out. They should last long enough while I wait for the BD players to go cheaper.

Where can I download a DVD decoder for free that is compatible with the windows media player for windows xp?

Caitlyn

I need this plug-in to play my DVDs in my computer but I haven't got any money to buy the ones I've found so far.

Answer
Hi, your best bet is to get vlc media player which is very good with dvd's and even let you adjust the brightness. Vlc plays nearly any audio or video files there is. Your second alternative is to download a codec pack, combined community codec pack is a good one. If you need futher help add some additional details and I will try to help you further.

I trust combined community codec pack below more than k-lite. With "cccp" you can make windows media player play dvd's and be default for files or media player classic home cinema which comes with included. It is very easy to install and setup.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (Official site of vlc media player by videolan. Not the prettiest interface with that big orange cone but this player does wonders for video and audio files. You can even adjust the brightness on dvd's with vlc.)

http://cccp-project.net/ (Official site of combined community codec pack. DO NOT ENABLE or checkmark haali media splitter support for avi files during setup, if you do haali will crash windows movie maker everytime for avi files.) This is a very good pack. It will play dvd's right after installing or you can set up ffdshow to play dvd's through mpeg2 libavcodec and and adjust dvd brightness through ffdshow video config.)

I hope this helps you out. If you need further help add additional details and I will do my best to help you further.

How do you use windows media player on windows 7?

Dave

I just bought a new laptop (h.p) and I want to put all my music cd's on my computer. I never had problems with WMP on Windows XP or previous editions. But now I can't figure it out. I put a cd in and it starts playing. I click stop. There is no option to copy. And when I click "rip" and gives me an error message. I can't even drag the songs onto another folder or my desktop or anything. What do I do? Please help, how do I copy songs from a CD on to my computer? It really shouldn't be this hard. WTF? I'm seconds away from throwing my laptop out the window and beating it with a bat. This is beyond aggravating. I thought windows 7 was suppose to be easier???????????

Answer
Did you buy the DVD? If you did, there is a very large chance it is protected with DRM and cannot have any of the information copied or changed. Really, DON'T TRUST WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!
If it works, try copying the files in the DVD to your Documents folder or your C drive. This should work. Then, try playing it with VLC Media Player (find it online). Since the file should be a .vob file, it should play perfectly fine on VLC.
When you click "rip", WMP would think that you are trying to burn a video to a DVD. Instead, you are playing directly FROM the DVD that the file is from, so you would get an error.
For Windows XP and lower: To copy, click Start, then My Computer. Then right-click the DVD and click Explore. Click the .vob files in the DVD and copy them (Ctrl + C). Then go to you destination folder and Paste it (Ctrl + V).
For Windows Vista or higher: To copy, click the Windows logo in the bottom left, then Computer. Then right-click the DVD and click Explore. Click the .vob files in the DVD and copy them (Ctrl + C). Then go to you destination folder and Paste it (Ctrl + V).
There you go! Note: Windows 7 is actually a little more frustrating, because many programs don't work with it. Just get used to it.

How do I reinstall a DVD player and driver on my computer without having to reinstall windows 7?

Caleb C

The driver that I have for my DVD drive in my computer is starting to make me frustrated. The only thing my computer will do when I try to reinstall the device is it says CD Drive under the 'computer' heading and now I can't even play movies. When I go online to try and find the driver for my dvd player it won't even pull anything up. It's like the driver for my dvd player burner doesn't even exist anymore. What should I do?

Answer
it should be built into windows. try rolling back the drivers. if not, unplug the drive, fire the machine up and let windows configure the machine as needed (figure out the drive is not there anymore (will just take a few seconds). shut it down. plug it in and fire it back up. it should be detect and install the drivers. make sure the bios is set right also. if that fails, you might have to update the drivers, go advanced and check the search removable media, make sure the install disk is in. one of those should work. kinda an odd situation... what happened to the stock drivers?

Is it worth repairing DVD portable player?

la_nena_co

I have a portable DVD player the read bad disk. I used different kinds of dvd and still the same problem. My question is it worth repairing or just get a new one? Or where is a place that doesn't charge as much?

Answer
Considering portable players are selling well under $100 now, I would think the old one is probably not worth repairing.

DVD player with coaxial (cable) input and HDMI out?

rdrunner19

I'm looking for a DVD player that will accept a coaxial input, and will recognize channels and allow me to watch tv and flip between channels through the player. It also needs to have either a HDMI, DVI-D, or VGA output so I can watch TV on my computer monitor. Any suggestions? I cant seem to find one. As cheap as possible too, under $100 preferably.
Not quite sure why old VCRs had this feature and DVD players do not. I don't need HD, my school still has analog cable.

Answer
>DVD player with coaxial (cable) input and HDMI out?

You would need a DVD recorder with built in tuner and HD up conversion. See first link for example.

But for a little more money ($200) you can buy a DVR/DVD recorder with built in tuner and up conversion. See second link.

>under $100 preferably.

Not new you won't.

>Not quite sure why old VCRs had this feature and DVD players do not.

Tuners are only built into (some) recording devices. They were never built into VCPs (Video Cassette Players) or DVD players.

VCR = Video Cassette Recorder

LCD TV question. HD ready.?

Zou

I want to buy HD ready lcd TV (resolution 1366x768 and not full HD with 1080p). IS MY OPINION CORRECT?

I do not have good quality/HDsources (DVDs, BluRays), because I rather download a 700 MB or rather 1.5 GB ripped films. In my country HD TV will be compulsory from 2012, and I am not intended to watch local TV ( I watch only Standard definition (480p) Free-to air satellite TV channels that I am interested in). I do not have BluRay player, and it's unlikely I will buy any original BR discs.
I am very visual person and bad pixeling disturbs me very much, so I am rather willing to spend for a sub HD lcd TV to have watchable TV channels on it than buy a popular full HD TV and suffer watching crap pixels.

What do you think? I consider brands like Sony, Toshiba, Sharp. In Hungary now I see Sharp LC37D44E and Toshiba 37AV635. Also Sharp LC42AD5( but an old 2005 model). I tend for Toshiba. What do you think?

Their price is the same as full HD, butprice is not important. I have now a 29" Sony CRT, great TV, but need a flat TV also and would be happy with 40" or 42 " TV, but 37" is what is available now :( whiich is still okay.

Answer
1 ) you ideal / concept is right , if ref to BUDGET / COST . but if you are looking into total display / colours quality and smooth pictures as you Sony old CRT TV , you are " wrong ". you away some important issue about LCD TV / motion blur / resolution between 720P / 1080P .
2 ) Technically , the only source provide full HD signals is via blu-ray . also our eye will not getting any resolution difference from an screen size below 40 inc TV.
is mean , if we don't watch movies from blu-ray , need not 1080P TV / or even via blu-ray movies from an screen size below 40 inc TV , 720P models is enough .
Remember , TV maker understand such issue more than any other and yet come out 1080P models from 32 inc . also consumer demand for 1080P models ( 32 inc onward ) is great , i should said mose of them who own 1080P TV do not watch blu-ray movies . still more to DVD and cable TV / free view on air channel that only provide 720P resolution .
all consumer are smart , no once paid more for nothings for sure .
3 ) The only reason is " total quality ".
TV maker take 720P models as standard entry level models , every designs are very standard ,( video circuit / refresh rate as 60 HZ .. ) because consider of selling prices !
TV maker take 1080P models as Mid or High End models.
to Support 1080P display , need difference / better grade LCD display panel . those LCD display panel use for 720P unable to use for 1080P models . somethings like low end PC monitor VS high end PC monitor !
to support better resolution display need better designs Video Enhance circuit . ( TV video circuit Amp = PC Graphics card ) ! somethings like low prices standard PC graphics card VS High End PC graphics card , any difference ?
4 ) to cover the motion blur due to LCD display response time , need fast refresh rate and fast response time display panel.
those 720P HD ready models use 6ms or even more response time display panel and 60HZ refresh rate . is really bad to sports movies / game ( any moving fast image ) , such " blur " usually make our eye uncomfortable . ( but some people okay )
TV maker only provide 120HZ ( even 240HZ ) into 1080P models also use lower as 4ms /5ms response time display panel ( some new hi end models even go for 2ms ) .
120 HZ refresh rate provide more smooth pictures than 60 HZ . but available in mid / high end models. is mean you unable to get 720P HD ready models with 120 HZ refresh rate.
5 ) Finally , this and that always make 1080P models much better in total pictures quality .
unless , you just need an TV . never demand for quality .
WARNING .
none of any LCD TV reach old CRT TV colours / smooth quality . if you change / upgrade from CRT TV to LCD TV , especial low end LCD TV models. you will be disappointed or need sometimes to accept it.
CRT TV rich in colour display / pure dark-black colours , LCD TV will NOT. ( high end models look better ).
CRT TV with out motion blur issue , LCD TV need high end models with 120 HZ to cover it.
Budget allow , LED TV ( LCD -LED back light ) really close to CRT quality. but cost much more.
for 40 inc and above , Panasonic Plasma is BEST in pictures quality amd PRICES. new Panasonic Plasma with out burn in / over heat / high power consumption issue.
^^^
Samsung / LG / Sharp / Sony / Panasonic / Toshiba manufactures quality / reliable LCD / LED TV.
6^^^
what is motion blur >
http://www.lcdtvreviews.org.uk/articles/relevance-of-response-time-in-rendering-picture-quality/
ADVICE. if my answer too technically , forget about " technical issue ".
LCD TV. go for 1080P 120 HZ models. very sure , if you use to Sony CRT TV, you never accept standard 720P 60 HZ LCD TV even not for blu-ray. is total quality that you need.

Know anyone in office who is not living like Royals?

Just curious

Good health care
Great benefits
A good amount of time off
A nice personal expense account

Nearly 500,000 federal employees now make at "least" $100,000 a year. Plus almost as much in benefits. (those little things add up)

During one recent year, compensation for federal employees came to a grand total of approximately 447 billion dollars.

If you can believe it, there are 77,000 federal workers that make more than the governors of their own states do.

When Joe Biden and his staff took a trip to London, the hotel bill cost U.S. taxpayers $459,388.65.

Joe Biden and his staff also stopped in Paris for one night. The hotel bill for that one night came to $585,000.50.

When Biden and his staff visited Moscow for two days in 2011, the total hotel bill came to $665,445.00.

During 2012, the salaries of Barack Obamaâs three climate change "advisers" combined came to a grand total of more than $370,000 plus expenses

Overall, 139 different White House "staffers" were making at least $100,000 during 2012, and there were some staffers that made $172,200.

It is estimated that the trip that the Obamas took to Africa cost U.S. taxpayers about 100 million dollars.

The Obamas only have one dog named âBoâ, but the White House âdog handlerâ reportedly makes $102,000 per year and sometimes he is even flown all expenses paid to where the Obamas are vacationing so that he can take care of the dog.
He has a retirement account. After all where do you go after the whitehouse. Life would be rough. Half the year he is off now

There is always at least one projectionist at the White House 24 hours a day just in case there is someone that wants to watch a movie. Apparently turning on a DVD player is too much to ask.

In one recent year, more than 1.4 billion dollars was spent on the Obamas. Meanwhile, British taxpayers only spent about 58 million dollars on the entire royal family.

Nancy spends more on entertaining for a few than many in Hollywood for whole crews

The list goes on. Senators, House, and others all living the royal life. And will when they retire as well.

So who pays for all of this extravagance?

The American people do of course.

Do you happen to know anyone who is not living well and like Royals in office?
Who personal expense account is so low the media mentions how humble they are and showing what it should be like

Just curious

Answer
Yes, it's horrendous the way money is being inappropriately used in the US. Even worse if you see the corruption happening earthwide. Some had too much money (less than 1% of entire human population, and in the US, less than 1% live the ultra rich lives of big mansions, $5000 minimum dinner parties, and other wasteful expenditures.

Do you happen to know anyone who is not living well and like Royals in office?
>> Most of them do indeed live like royalties. In fact, the upper echelon of rich people world wide had so much $$ and time to spend it, they waste quite a portion of it. Time is money, and money (while it may be the root of much evil) is important to the millions of household around America struggling to make a living.

Read this

http://weeklyworldnews.com/headlines/50836/prince-harry-loses-50-milliion-in-vegas/

Corruption is rampant now, and like never before. All those perfectly illustrates what Apostle wrote back 2,000 years ago in 2 Timothy 3:1-15:" In the last days, critical times hard to deal with, men will be lovers of money...lovers of pleasures..having a form of Godly devotion but proving false to its power.."

there was a shocking scandal in one South American country involving human trafficking. An under cover detective unearthed a connected network of criminals and pay-under the table business, so ugly and outrageous, it involved the gangs, local shop keepers, local business men, judges, police officers, lawyers, certain members within the government, as well as clergy men (profiting, helpers, buying/selling, as well as being *serviced*)

Much had been wasted by those who should look after the citizens. The billion dollar war in Iraq, the multi-trillion dollar business made from weapon selling earthwide.

Windows 7/Asus DVD player problem?

Q. My laptop won't play DVD's. It says there is a driver problem: A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)
What do I do to fix this?

Answer
If you canât find the right Asus drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. Perform a free driver scan at:
http://www.drivers-updates.net/company/asus-drivers.html
Also, you can get the driver from their official sites:

Best free comprehensive burning software for DVD-RW drive?

Cassini Co

I would like suggestions for DVD burning software, these are my priorities:
1) freeware, 100% compatibility with Windows 7
2) burn video files (in the correct format, of course) to DVD so they can be played on standard DVD players
3) create perfect DVD backups from disc images (backups that can bypass copy protection)
4) burn audio CDs and file CDs.
5) fast software clear of malware, spyware, adware, or any other modules that attempt to run on system startup
6) ability to create perfect disc images (like Alcohol 120%) would be a nice bonus, but I don't expect it for free
7) functionality over user-friendliness, I've got enough technical experience to figure out the software, the more powerful the better.

I will review and test all suggestions, only the best software will get my vote for best answer. Please don't post duplicate suggestions, just vote for one you think is best. Thanks in advance for all answers!

Answer
I don't know of one piece of software that will do all of those, but I do know of two that, when used in conjunction with each other, will:
- ImgBurn ( http://imgburn.com/ ) will cover points 2, 4, and 6.
- DVDFab HD Decrypter ( http://dvdfab.com/free.htm ) will cover 3.
- Both cover points 1, 5, and 7 (to some degree). DVDFab HD Decrypter focuses a little more on user-friendliness, but all the features you should need for straight ripping are there.

Answer
Unfortunately, you don't have that freedom. Most DVD players will only play VCD's, which are in MPEG1 format. Some DVD players will play Divx, which is an AVI format. These are the only two possibilities for CD-R.

As for DVD's, these are in MPEG2 format.

Answer
Question: Can I play my recorded DVDs in other DVD players - What are the DVD Formats?
This page outlines the various DVD recording formats available to the consumer, and how each format relates to playback compatibility on other DVD players.

However, for a detailed look at what makes standard Commercial DVDs you buy at your local retail outlet different from the DVD recording formats discussed below, also be sure to check out my Quick Tip: What Makes Home Recorded DVDs Different Than Commercial DVDs.
Answer: There is no 100% guarantee that any DVD you make with your DVD recorder will play in all DVD players. Whether or not you can play a DVD you have made using your DVD recorder on most current DVD players (manufactured since the years 1999-2000) will depend mostly on the format used in recording the DVD.

Without getting into the technical aspects of each format (for more info check related links at the end of this article) the relevance of each format to the average consumer goes like this:

DVD-R: The most universal of recordable DVD formats that is used by computer DVD writers as well as most DVD recorders. DVD-R is a write-once format, much like CD-R and discs made in this format can be played in most current DVD players. DVD-R discs need to be finalized at the conclusion of the recording process (like a CDR) before they can be played in another DVD player.

DVD-R DL A record-once format that is identical to DVD-R, except that it has two layers on the same side of the DVD. This allows twice the recording time capacity on a single side. This format is being incorporated slowly on some newer DVD Recorders. Although the actual recording format is the same as DVD-R, the physical difference between a standard DVD-R disc and a DVD-R DL disc may result in less playback compatibility on some DVD players that normally have the ability to play standard single layer DVD-R discs.

DVD-RW: Recordable and rewritable format (like CD-RW) promoted by Pioneer, Sharp, and Sony. Discs are playable in most DVD players, provided it is recorded in the straight Video Mode and finalized. In addition, the DVD-RW format also has the ability to perform Chase Play, which is similar to Time Slip used in the DVD-RAM format (refer to the explanation for the DVD-RAM format). However, this function is available only in what is referred to as VR mode. DVD-RW recordings made in VR mode may not be as compatible with other DVD players.

DVD+RW: Recordable and rewritable format promoted primarily by Philips, with a host of partners, including Yamaha, HP, Ricoh, Thomson (RCA), Mitsubishi, APEX, and Sony. Claims to offer a greater degree of compatibility with current DVD technology than DVD-RW. The DVD+RW format is also the easiest to use, in terms of basic recording, as the discs do not need to be finalized at the conclusion of the recording process in order to play in another DVD player. This is due to the finalization process being performed during the actual recording process itself.

DVD+R: A record-once format introduced and backed by Philips and adopted by the other DVD+RW proponents, that is said to be easier to use than DVD-R, while still playable in most current DVD players. DVD+R discs need to be finalized before they can play in another DVD player.

DVD+R DL A record-once format that is identical to DVD+R, except that it has two layers on the same side of the DVD. This allows twice the recording time capacity on a single side. This format is being incorporated on most new PCs with DVD writers, but is slowly being introduced into standalone DVD recorders. Although the actual recording format is the same as DVD+R, the physical difference between a standard DVD+R disc and a DVD+R DL disc may result in less playback compatibility on some DVD players that normally have the ability to play standard single layer DVD+R discs.

DVD-RAM: Recordable and rewritable format promoted by Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, and Hitachi, which is not playback compatible with most standard DVD players, and is not compatible with most DVD-ROM computer drives. One of the unique features of DVD-RAM, however, is its ability (with its random access and quick writing speed) to allow the user to watch the beginning of a recording while the DVD recorder is still recording the end of the program. This is referred to as "Time Slip". This is great if a phone call interrupts your viewing or if you come home late from work and miss the beginning that important TV episode or televised sporting event. Another advantage of DVD-RAM is its extensive capability for on-disc editing. With its quick access speed, you can rearrange the playback order of scenes and delete other scenes from playback, without erasing the original video. However, it must be re-noted that the recording made is not compatible with playback on most standard DVD players.

Digital(Freeview) or Analog TV in Kerala(India)?

steven t

My parents are going to Kerala(India) for two moths trip and I want to give them a portable DVD player with built in TV tuner(analog) as a present. I want an analog TV tuner as I donât know if digital(freeview) is available in Kerala(India).
My question is does any one know where I can purchase a portable DVD player with built in analog TV tuner?
Or does any one know if freeview(digital) receiver works in Kerala(India)?

Answer
Almost all here live in North America, predominately in the USA, and have no knowledge of television, TV products, of pricing in India! Try posting India specific questions, like this one, in Yahoo Answers International-India where you will be communicating directly with people who live there and might have the personal knowledge to help.

Is a up converting DVD player worth buying, does it work good with a HDTV?

Q. Is a up converting DVD player worth buying, does it work good with a HDTV?

Answer
Upconverting DVD players (or blu-ray players for that matter) are only worthwhile if you have a HDTV. They will do nothing to enhance your image on a regular TV.

Since blu-ray players will also upconvert DVDs on HDTVs, the only reason to buy just an upconverting DVD player instead of a blu-ray player is the fact that upconverting DVD players are under $50 whereas blu-ray players are about $150.

Can you help me fix my DVD player?

Rachel L

Whenever i put a DVD in, it sputters and clicks. Is it broken and is it worth fixing? If it's broken, does anyone know how to fix it?

Answer
If your player sputters and clicks with every DVD you put in it, it is time to get a new one, unfortunately. There are very few serviceable parts inside. Check if your dvd player is still under warranty (unlikely).

With DVD players with great specs around $50 - $70 (upconverting, hdmi output, etc), the labor and parts costs of a repair may not be worth it.

I just feel bad that so many consumer electronics devices (cellphones, dvd players, portable music players, some computers) are so cheaply made that disassembly and repair is impossible. It just adds to the pollution and waste of materials.

how to play a copyright protected dvd player on my computer?

Say Wat?

well this might seem like a dumb question but the thing is, when I put in the CD on my computer, and click on My Computer, the CD wont show up. I tried using quick time to search for the CD but i couldn't find it. I also already tried how to find a way to make my computer a genuine Microsoft software to play the CD in windows media player but I gave up because there are other media players available. & i decided to go with DviX but i still cant find the file to play the dvd

Answer
There should not be any problem with playing a copyrighted DVD in any computer CD player. If you are having that much of a problem with one certain DVD, there must be a boot defect in it, if that is the technical term.

That's not an uncommon problem, I bought a software DVD that didn't load last week. It was bad.

Can Computer DVD players detect the different DVD regions?

jb

Or can they be played on the computer no matter what Region they are? (Region 1, region 2 etc.)

Answer
DVD players on computers have the option to change the region code, but you are only allowed to change the region code 4 times, after that the system would have to be reformatted and reloaded in order to get 4 more changes.

You can view the current region code by

1. Goto Start
2. Right click My Computer
3. Select Properties
4. Select Hardware Tab
5. Select the Device Manager button
6. Select the plus next to DVD/CD rom drives.
7. Right click the DVD drive that you use to play DVDs
8. Select DVD Region, there you can see current and change the current region. It will also tell you how many changes are left.

Good luck!

An X-File question about an X-File I'm currently working on?

Special Ag

Obviously to recount my steps from seclusion to being allowed back into F.B.I. headquarters without so much as a bat of an eyelid I wanna get my hands on X-Files 2 next week.

I, being a wiley and investigative fellow through this beard thats grown back is now wondering which edition to get....

The American version which boasts 3 DVDs:

X-File #933380/111/11198832

http://www.amazon.com/X-Files-Believe-Three-Disc-Special-Digital/dp/B001G7PSN0

Orrrrrrrrrr, the U.K. version which allegedly only has EEEEK SHOCK HORROR two discs.

X-File #9333802/1112/119 - if you look carefully this question contains a subliminal message - 88322

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Files-Believe-Special-including-Digital/dp/B001G7PHDQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1227062274&sr=1-2

Oh, the humility.

So.... Would it be fair to say that the U.S. version sounds, oh, so much more meaty.

*Crackle* CHEESE IS ILLEGAL - MICE WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD - VOTE STEWIE GRIFFIN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012 AS THATS WHEN THE WORLD WILL END.

Am thinking of buying the DVD next Monday eeek the 2 disc one damn I hope it comes with sunflower seeds.

Ciao!!!!
Just to tell y'all that I did some FURTHER research and the U.K. DVD is BRILLIANTLY the same as the U.S. dvd Indepedently the U.K. one comes out before the U.S. one ha ha ha ha.

Answer
Well, Fox, I'm getting the 3 disk American version since conveniently I happen to live there and have the proper DVD player. I can't wait.

what is the best dvd player for mac?

ssm

Answer
Do you mean DVD player software? Or a DVD drive?

Mac OS X comes with an application called DVD Player. VLC (free download) is also a good player.

If you mean DVD drive, I'm afraid I can't be of much help since all my Macs have built-in DVD drives.

How much is the "DVD Player" application on the Mac?

James

Is it free? Or is there a price?

Answer
The DVD player app on the Mac is bundled with OS X and comes free with every new Mac. You cannot buy it separately.

Answer
Apples own dvd player program. but usually only works with Apples built in dvd players or burners. VLC is also a program that plays dvds but it lacks the picture quality in my opinion of a set top dvd player or Apples dvd player. Also there is a program called Mplayer which is a little better on picture quality than VLC. you can download both at Macupdate.com.

unwonted

Where can I find a really good deal online for Sony DVP-NS710H B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player

Answer
DVP-NS710H/B Sony DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling and HDMI
Regular price: $79.00
Sale price: $64.00
You Save: $15.00

Make movie night more enjoyable and watch your DVDs in striking 1080p HD resolution with this upscaling DVD player.

Breathe new life into your DVD collection. The DVP-NS710H/B DVD player upscales your existing DVD collection to gorgeous 1080p HD resolution via an HDMI⢠connection. This DVD player is also equipped with BRAVIA® Sync⢠which gives you one-remote access and control of your DVD player and other BRAVIA Sync-compatible devices. In addition to exceeding ENERGY STAR® compliance levels, you'll also enjoy uncompromised audio quality with Dolby® and dts® digital outputs, as well as an analog audio two-channel output. You can even view photos and listen to music in a wide variety of formats. Includes A/V cable and remote control with batteries.

# Features DVD upscale to 1080p near HD resolution via HDMI⢠- 1080p upscaling DVD player via HDMI⢠connection: DVD upscaling via HDMI⢠makes your existing standard DVDs look better on your HDTV by upscaling them to 1080p near HD Resolution.

# BRAVIA® Sync - BRAVIA Sync capability combines the one-touch access and control functionality of BRAVIA Sync⢠with the ability to control BRAVIA Sync-compatible devices, such as Sony HDTVs and receivers.

# Exceeds ENERGY STAR® standards - Many home audio and video devices can use significant power, even when turned off and in standby mode. The DVP-NS710H, however, was built for energy efficiency. It uses under 0.1W of power in standby mode, far exceeding ENERGY STAR® compliance levels and using less power than most other DVD players.

# Multi-brand TV remote control - Switching back and forth between remote controls while watching television or a movie is a hassle. The DVP-NS710H comes with a compact remote control that allows you to operate most major brands of television and your DVD player.

# Multiple format disc playback - The DVP-NS710H isn't just for movies. You can enjoy movies, as well as photos and music, in a wide variety of formats. The player supports DVD/DVD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL and CD-R/CD-RW discs runs WMA, AAC, LPCM, MPEG1 (Cyber-shot® movie), and JPEG files.

# Precision Cinema Progressive⢠technology - Many other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level; the Sony® Precision Cinema Progressive system, however, detects image changes at the pixel level. The picture is more faithful to the source -- whether film or video -- because special algorithms handle the different pixel behavior. The technology also employs separate algorithms to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from artifacts.

# Precision Drive⢠3 system - Past generations of Precision Drive were only able to compensate for warped discs by moving the entire optical block, which took more time and limited the amount of correction possible. Sony® Precision Drive 3 simplifies the process by moving the lens -- instead of the entire optical block -- for faster and more accurate error correction.

# Photo TV HD - Bring your photos to life and enjoy highly detailed, Full HD 1920 x 1080p images with the PhotoTV HD mode. PhotoTV HD works with your DVD player and HDMI⢠output to fine tune sharpness, gradation, and color, displaying images that more closely match the look of printed photos.

# Fast/slow playback with sound - Fast and slow playback with sound lets you advance through scenes quickly and ensures you never miss a word.

# Multiple-disc resume - With multiple-disc resume, you can power up and return to the last scene you were watching on up to six discs without having to search. Start and stop a movie or switch DVDs -- the player will know exactly where you last left off.

# Dolby® digital output; dts® coaxial digital output - The DVP-NS710H includes support for enhanced audio formats from Dolby and dts and provides connectivity to older receivers and televisions, making the player compatible with many existing audio systems. Also included is an analog audio two-channel output.

# Child lock (tray lock): - A child lock feature prevents children from opening the DVD player's tray and either removing a DVD or playing a different DVD while the parent is away.

What is the best deal for a HD DVD player?

phillipine

We have been using our playstation 2 to play dvds on for some time now and would like to get a dvd player. We thought since we are buying one we might as well buy one that is for HD dvds as well as that seems to be the way things are going, can anyone help with finding a good deal? They seem quite expensive!! Thank you :)

Answer
I wouldn't get an HD DVD player. I'd get a Blu-Ray player or wait for a hybrid that plays both. HD DVD players are becoming less common and appear to be going down the path as Beta.

How much are you looking to spend?

I play Blu-Ray's on my PS3.

what is the use of HDMI on this DVD player?????

Mooze

hi...I have an LG DVD player ...it cannot play HD-DVD and
BLU RAY....but still it HAS HDMI output which is connected to my HDTV.
is there any ADVANTAGE of HDMI if i can't PLAY HD-DVD and BLU RAY.....
plzzz
thanXX..
and yes...it displays DVD ripz in a high resolution..but not same as HD-DVD....

Answer
One advantage of HDMI cables is that it's all bundled in a single run. So it's easier hookup and less mess behind the equipment. For 1080p video games, you'll notice a slight difference between HDMI cables and good Component cables. Beyond that, it's worthless.

HDMI is just a cable; it doesn't upgrade anything. Your DVD apparently has an upconverter so you have the option of using an HDMI cable for direct connection. Saying that converting a standard signal to an HD signal will improve it is like saying that spraying perfume on a dog turd will improve it. The axiom has ALWAYS been: Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Use your HDMI cable if you like. It won't hurt anything. It also won't help anything, no matter what the geek hype. It's purely up to you.

Can i play HD DVD movies in my phillips dvd player that makes regular movies into hd movies with the hdmi?

Jose D

i have a phillips dvd player that has an hdmi output to transform regular movies into hd movies. can i also play movies that are already in hd?

Answer
No. The electronics and optics in your Philips DVD player are designed to only play DVD discs, even though they do "upscale" them to HD when playing via the HDMI output.

HD-DVD is a totally different format to DVD, even though the discs are the same size. For starters, the "pits" on an HD-DVD that store the digital information are a lot smaller than on a DVD; DVD players use a red laser to read the discs; for HD-DVD, you need a blue laser (blue light has a shorter wavelength than red light), as the wavelength of the red laser in a normal DVD player is too big to be able to resolve the tiny pits on an HD-DVD.

Secondly, even when physical considerations like that are taken into account, the format of the data on the two discs is likely to be totally different too - meaning that the electronics in your player would not be able to handle the data on an HD-DVD even if the laser in your player was able to read it.

OMG i get this

CDBurnerXP

There is not enough free space on the disc. Please free up some disc space or choose a different target.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

its a brand new blank cd
btw my dvd/cd rom is ATAPI DVD A DH16A1L

Answer
Have you tried using other software to burn besides windows media player? I use CDBurnerXP (it works on windows 7 despite having the xp in the name) and i have never had any problems burning discs although i have had a few problems with media player (not the particular one you are having). Just a suggestion :-)

EDIT:: I am confused...you said that it says no free space..and then you state that it is a brand new dvd/cd (i forgot which one you said) are you trying to burn that program to a disk..or did it say that error message when you tried to install it..if it said that message when you tried to install it then the hard drive that you use as your program directory is full and you will need to free up space to even attempt to install cdburnerxp

Is there any region free player software for me to play on windows 7?

Charlse

When I try to play my DVD, the system always inform me to set a region code, sometimes it still suck to play DVD player software. What about another one

Answer
All the above is good advice - there are other choices too - plus you can get a small free app to do it in windows media player. (Major Geeks may have it)
Try AfterDawn.com, Ask Leo, Gizmo's, or Widows Club for sage advice.

There are also free codec packs which may/may not help you (Klite is biggest, but not the only one)

My windows 7 media player never asks me to set a region code. Sorry, I can't remember how/if I actually tweaked it.

What kind of DVD/Blu ray player can I get that uses only coaxial cables? I have a satellite box/older tv.?

missindy67

I bought a new model blu-ray/DVD player but it wouldn't work because my tv is older model and I need coaxial cables instead of HDMI. What kind of player can I get that still has this option?

Answer
You would need to buy a model that was made before January of 2011 there are some available but they are usually expensive compared to newer ones... also some newer blue ray disks will not play in it if you try and do an update to it it may disable the Composite function...or even the whole player....and only HDMI will work if its connected to the Internet it may try and do the update on its own which would also disable the player in fact some blu ray disks simply by placing it in the player and pressing play may disable it....

About 6 hours, but it depends on the make. If you are going on long flights, you can usually pick up a back up battery as well.

cheap portable dvd player with long battery life?

doobycore

hi there, was looking at getting a reasonably cheap portable dvd player to use on the airplane. I'm really hoping for one that has a battery life of over 5 hours. is that possible? and if not, is there ones you can get that you can have lots of spare batteries for? i could just take 3 or 4 spare batteries on the plane and keep changing them one after another!

Answer
A typical battery would last about a move. You would need more batteries, and that is not really cheap.

You should investigate the possibility of powering it from the airplane power system.

is the magnavox model: MPD 150 worth the $200 you have to pay for it im thinking about purchaseing one
EDIT: i dont want another ipod
EDIT the 2nd : i dont want another mp3 kind of thing

Answer
There are a lot of portable DVD players on the market today, many of them selling under $100. Check WalMart, Sears or Circuit CIty.

Also, stop in at Radio Shack. The good thing about them is that you have 30 days to return the item if you don't like it, as long as you return it in the original box and it is in re-sellable condition.

Is there any DVD player in the market that can stream Netflix?

Uppili Vij

I am not looking for a Blu-Ray player and I am not looking for a streaming only Roku. :)

Answer
An Xbox can be a DVD player and can stream Netflix.
Linksys used to have a DVD player/media Extenter combo, but it may be cheaper to buy a DVD player + Roku box.

i have hd vizio tv and sony blu-ray dvd player. What do I have to get to stream netflix movies?

penelope

I don't have wi-fi. Do I need wi-fi. How do I get it. What do I need? Where can I get it to stream netflix?

Answer
model numbers of your devices would be helpful. Check the specs of your Blu ray player to see if it can run Netflix. You also need an internet connection for your device. Again check your blu ray player to see what type of internet connection it supports. Most have wired connections, other have built in wireless or the option to add wireless with a dongle that must be purchased separately.

Check out your router or modem to see what connections it supports.

DVD Blu-ray will not work in my laptop DVD player windows 7?

Daniel Woo

My Toshiba Laptop Windows 7 will not recognize a new Blu-ray DVD I just bought. Says it doesn't support this kind of file. Any suggestions or downloads I can get so I can watch this movie ?

Answer
First off, there is no such thing as a DVD Blu Ray. They are two difference technology, DVD or Blu Ray. To play a Blu Ray disc you will need to have a Blu Ray disc player. Blu Ray disc player can however play the DVD. Hope this will help you out.

PC DVD Decoder?

indigo

I wanted to play a DVD today on my laptop (XP) I've done it before and it worked fine with either the general Windows Player or with the Media Centre. But today it said something like my DVD decoder has been malfunctioned or it needs to be installed.. So I looked at the plugins I could download from Windows and they cost money. Why should I have to pay for something I already had? I really don't know why this has happened. If there is any computer genesis here, please help me! I will give you 11 points =)
Its impossible to find a free one without all those risks attached. I just want to know WHY I need it, when before I "had" it because BEFORE it worked.
More answers please.

Answer
Just about any software DVD player (such as Power DVD) has an embedded decoder. Windows media player usually "borrows" the decoder when the player software is installed.
Usually you get free software when you purchase a DVD player. I'm sure you can find something for free if you browse the web. Try www.dvdsoftware.net.

Where can I get free Philips DVD 8631 drivers to download?

Yardie

I have a Dell 8400 that went belly-up and had to re-install all of Dell's apps and drivers but there weren't any list for the Philips and is still giving problem. I replaced the Power Supply to keep it from spontaneously shutoff. Registry repair rendered about 3 weeks of operation. Now re-intalled and occasional memory problem while using the DVD drive.

Answer
Windows XP should automatically install the standard IDE drivers, you should not need anything else.

If you are having memory problems, open up your device manager and remove the DVD player. Restart the computer and have it find the device again.
