What type of dvd player would work best for a tv that is already a widescreen?

I am looking to buy a dvd player for my parents and they purchase d a wide screen tv so when you play dvds or watch tv it tends to stretch out the picture. Is there a dvd player that takes this into account or does it matter?

Answer
There is a common misperception that the screen should be full. Not so. While it is nice when it happens only material at the same aspect aratio (width to height ratio) as the screen you are watching will fill the screen ... everything else will have black bars on the top and bottom or the sides (unless the image is stretched or zoomed ... but that distorts or throws away some of the picture).

The director of a film chooses the aspect ratio, and it can vary from 1.33:1 to over 2.7:1 in extreme wideangle films. The most common are 1.78:1 (so called "16:9" -- the aspect ratio of "widescreen" TVs), 1.85:1 and 2.35:1, but others exist too.

See the image at the link to see how these aspect ratios relate on a constant width screen.

TVs often have a control that allows images to be zoomed or stretched to fit the screen ... as stated above this is distortion and most people, after playing with the different settings for a while, return to a straight undistorted image setting.

A widescreen TV will "fit" more programming (particularly if they subscribe to HD programming, which is in widescreen (16:9) format) than their old style TV (Which was 4:3 or 1.33:1 format) BUT they will still see black bars on some movies, particularly on DVD (Note: TV broadcast stations sometimes crop widescreen movies to "fit" the 16:9 screen ... and you can't control this, but the same movie on DVD might have bars).

So ... no, you don't need to buy a different DVD player for widescreen since the basic aspect ratio is determined by the movie, not the player. Maybe the above explanation will help you explain it to your parents.

If buying a DVD player for a 720p or 1080p HDTV, consider a $100-$125 (less expensive ones won't provide any benefit) "upscaling DVD player" (with a HDMI connector) or if you want to go full out, consider the Venture HD DVD player from Walmart ($200) ... which is really a Toshiba HD-A3 player (a good upscaler and it plays HD DVDs).

Hope this helps.

What kind of DVD player should I get that also allows me to watch online movies from netflix?

paulbunyan

I want to get a DVD player that will play high Definition dvds, and will let me watch instant online movies from netflix

Any ideas?

10 points to the best!

Answer
For HD you need a Blu-ray player, not a DVD player. That said, one of the most reasonable is the Insignia player sold at Best Buy (it's their house brand). Netflix and Best Buy just announced a partnership (See link). In Canada the basic player sells for $170 (2nd link).

I suggest anyone replacing a DVD player these days consider a Blu-ray player. Why? Because, that way you have the capability to play Blu-ray disks if/when you find them at an acceptable price, and in the meantime Blu-ray players make a good upscaling DVD player for your existing collection.

Do I need an upscaling DVD player with my new HDTV?

Hello. I Just got a Panasonic TH-42PX60U. I have an older Panasonic DVD-S35 DVD player (progressive scan). I'm about to go out and buy component cables (not S-video cable which is the only other plug in the back of the dvd player).

Should I buy the component cables or just go buy a new upscaling DVD player?

Thanks from a true newbie.

Answer
Just use the DVD player you have for now. Component cables will get you great picture quality and you will be able to take advantage of the progressive scan capabilities of your DVD player with these as well. Make sure you enable this option on your DVD player. It will either be in the on screen setup menu or as a switch on the unit itself.

You're TV has a built in upscaler that will automatically scale the 480p resolution sent out by your DVD player to the native resolution of the display. The reason why upconverting DVD players exist is just because they have chips that try to do it better than the built in upscalers. Some DVD players excel at this and some do it no better or even worse than the TV.

Will it make a difference if you had a very good quality upconverting DVD player such as an OPPO? Yes it would make a difference. Is it worth dumping a perfectly good DVD player and buying a $200+ one? No. The difference in picture quality will be minimal and mainly discernable in text. Most people will not be able to tell the difference watching the actual movie from normal viewing distances.

Also, when you go buy component cables, DO NOT let them sucker you into Monster or other expensive cables that will claim to increase your picture quality. Either get a generic phillips or something brand for fairly cheap or buy them from www.monoprice.com. Try not to spend over $20 for a 6 foot cable.

Enjoy your television. It is an excellent plasma.

P.S. turn the video settings off "Vivid" and to "standard". Vivid will oversaturate some colors and make things look unnatural.

Is Samsungs BD wise technology in a DVD player just a fancy word for upscaling?

flitz

Sony has a DVD player that up scales DVDS to 1080p as well......what's the difference?

Answer
yes and no. While it certainly includes upscaling it also sets contrast and colour to "optimize" the picture. Note it works only if both the player and the TV support it. Upscaling DVD players are common (and all BD players upscale DVDs) but they only change resolution (and image quality varies widely depending on the sophistication of the video processor used). How to remove the password of a dmg file?

I have a dmg file (3.7 GB) which is a video and I can play it on my mac, I am trying to burn it on a dvd so i can play it on a dvd player or my playstation, i am able to successfully burn it but it still doesn't play neither on a DVD player nor my playstation, i tried a pc too but still doesn't read it...the dmg file is encrypted, I was wondering if this was the problem, will decrypting solve this or there is another issue... any suggestion is very much appreciated!

Answer
To find the password of any encrypted file, contact the person who made it. I wish there was some other way, but there is not. The reason for the password is so you cannot use it without the password. The guy didn't put a password on it just to make you look around on websites and ask here at Yahoo Answers and waste half a day. He did it to STOP YOU FROM USING THE FILE. Why would he do that? No idea. Ask him.

"I have a dmg file (3.7 GB) which is a video"
Not really true. A DMG file is a disk image. The file INSIDE the disk image COULD be a movie file--or not. If it is a bunch of files, such as "VIDEO_TS" and others, it is a group of files that together make a DVD. Typically, you simply drag those files to a blank DVD and click the burn icon. To tell us what the heck is in the disk image, double-click it to mount it, and look at the file extension of the file (extension is the part AFTER the dot).

If this DMG has the folder "VIDEO_TS" and such, you can extract a compressed movie file from it using Handbrake.

To use a compressed movie file in Windows 7, these formats work....

"Windows Media Player 12 has built-in support for many popular audio and video formatsâincluding 3GP, AAC, AVCHD, MPEG-4, WMV, and WMA. It also supports most AVI, DivX, MOV, and Xvid files." --from the 1st link below

If the stuff inside the DMG is not a complete set of folders/files for a DVD, but is instead a compressed movie file, you can still use that file to make a DVD movie disc, although the quality will typically be lower than that of a commerical DVD movie disc. To make a DVD movie disc on a Mac....

-- If your computer is not 2011 or later model, it came with iDVD (which happens to be discontinued now). Use it. iMovie is the app that came with your Mac for editing movies. Then it has an option to Export to iDVD, which has a Help menu, and if that doesn't answer all your questions, use support.apple.com for "iDVD menus" or whatever your question is about.

-- If your 2011 or later computer came with no iDVD, use DVDStyler. It is a free (not a demo / trial) open-source alternative to iDVD for Intel Macs. It has most of the same options as iDVD, but not as many cool themes.

Can you please explain how to make this work step by step?

I have downloaded a movie in avi format and I want to make it work in my dvd player. I copied the movie on to an empty dvd and when I try to play it in my dvd player it doesn't play it simple says 'loading' !!! What do I do?!

Answer
Your DVD player does not have the codec [Its a video language - just like people have various languages codecs are languages for video players. An each type of video in encoded in various codecs. Since AVI is a container (equivelent to a person) it can be coded with those various codecs. But DVDs have a strict restrictions on which codec can be read. Its better you convert the AVI to a DVD specific.
There are alot of free DVD convertors available.

Why was the DVD box set of the Earthworm Jim cartoon only released in Australia?

NauseousPe

That show was one of the most clever cartoons I've ever seen, but living in the US, my only option is to watch them on YouTube with the video squished to the top of the screen and NBC removing them one by one.
Does anyone have any idea why the DVD was only released in Australia, and if there's any chance that it could see a region 1 release?

Answer
The reason why the complete series is only released in Australia is because Vision Entertainment who released the complete series as a 5-disc set in Australia are a based DVD label taking premium DVD and video content to major retailers Australia and New Zealand wide. Other publishers such as Universal currently have no plans to release the show on DVD in the US although there is a chance seeing as how the TV series was released on June 1, 2011 for Australia and there is quite a demand for this series to be released for other regions seeing how the fan-base is quite large.

My advice to you if you no longer want to wait for the DVD's to release in your region would be to get a region free DVD player and buy the box set through an internet retailer such as Amazon.

can you play a blu ray or an hd dvd on regular dvd player?

best dvd player blu ray on Blu-ray review: Tangled 3D - Blu-ray
best dvd player blu ray image

layobro7

i can't afford another electronic device. will my sony dvd player play either or both of blu ray and dvd hd? i really need help here.

Answer
No, you can't play hd-dvd or blu-ray on a regular dvd player. You need a blu-ray player to play blu-ray discs and an hd-dvd player for hd-dvd discs.

Blu-ray players cost $300+ including the PS3, but they have the support from most electronics companies including: Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Pioneer, etc. They also have the exclusive studio backings of: Sony Pictures, MGM, Lionsgate, Warner Bros.(starting May 2008), and Disney.

HD-DVD players cost $150+. They are backed by Microsoft and Toshiba, and they have the exclusive backing of: Universal, and Paramount (but they are supported by Warner Bros. until May 2008).

But unless you have an HDTV, it will be no different than normal DVD's. So if you have a non-HDTV, don't waste your money buying hi-def discs and players that will mean no difference to you.

What happens when you try and play a blu-ray disc in a regular dvd player?

elmer091

I bought a blu ray disc, and it came with a regular DVD copy. without even thinking, i just grabbed the first disc, and put it into my DVD player, and that disc happened to be the blu-ray version. now the back of the blu-ray disc has waves of color, and i dont know if i ruined it or not, does anyone know?

Answer
No, you didn't ruin it. DVD players are strictly read-only, meaning that they will not rewrite or damage anything on the disc under any circumstances, unless the DVD player catches on fire or spits the DVD across the room, shattering it against the wall (which will almost NEVER happen, mind you!). The "waves of color" are just part of the reflection from the disc. In short, if you put a Blu-ray DVD into a standard DVD player, absolutely NOTHING will happen.

Why are the TOSHIBA HD players so differently priced ranging from 250$ to 750$?

Toshiba uses Blue Laser and HD VMD uses Red Laser in their HD Players. Does this make a difference for he consumer? If HD VMD sells for 250$ and offers 1080p resolution is it not good enough? Does Toshiba offer anything more than HD VMD?

Answer
Toshiba currently has 3 players ranging a street price of about $200 to $750 US. The lowest priced (HD-A2) is adequate for most people and is sold at a 'bargain" price to promote sales to the average consumer. The middle model (HD-A20, $100 more than the HD-A2) has 1080p output rather than 1080i, but is otherwise the same. The highest priced model (HD-X2) offers a better (and more expensive) scaling chip and 1080p output.

Frankly, the HD-X2 is way overpriced (and Toshiba has apparently recognized this because the 3rd generation model that will replace it (HD-A35) has a MSRP of $499 US.

The replacement for the HD-A2 (HD-A3) at $299 and for the HD-A20 (the HD-A30) at $399 show a more logical and defensible price scale.

In addition the upper level 3rd generation models will handle HDMI 1.3 and output 1080p/24 fps ... desirable features, but unfortunately ones few consumers have equipment to exploit.

Bottom line is for the average consumer there is no reason to buy the higher priced models, and frankly the current price differential is only to take advantage of the early adopter that cares more about having the latest and "best" more than the cost.

VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disk) is an attempt first introduced in China and India now being tried in Europe to provide an alternative to HD DVD (and Blu-Ray). It has some good points but has no support from major Western movie studios (so far limited to Bollywood and a few European houses). So, HD DVD offers HD versions of some major films while Blu-Ray offers others ... so if these are your interest VMD is not very useful. If you are interested in HD versions of films supported on VMD it may be a viable option.

Frankly, I find normal DVDs on a good upscaling Player give a pretty darn good picture (and I have an HD player too) and the DVDs are available much cheaper and for a much wider choice of films.

The future of blue laser disks (and VMD) is very much up in the air. Unless the format war ends it is likely some other format / mechanism (e.g. online movies) will be the successor to DVD ... not either HD DVD or Blu-Ray (or VMD).

The three links provide info on the above. Hope this helps.

Are digital cameras in Chennai expensive? Do they sell them duty free at the airport?

Sisyphus

They're expensive in Sri Lanka. I can buy one for more than double the price in Colombo or I can wait until I arrive at Chennai airport and buy one there.

Also, does Chennai have cheap Lonely Planet travel guides? In Vietnam you could buy one for a couple of bucks on the street.

best dvd player for the computer image

Well I have a problem with my hdmi connector in my projector, so my projector won't connect to my computer, and I check if the cable was the problem, but I am able to connect my computer to my TV with the hdmi cable, so it is not the cable. So I am wondering if I can connect my dvd player to my computer somehow, then connect my dvd player to my projector with an rca cable or some cable? Is this possible will it display?
-Thank You :)))
Well actually, the projector work with my computer before but now it just stop working it it? So I don't know what happen?

Answer
If I understand you correctly, I believe you are running into HDCP. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is an anti-copying protocol implemented in HDMI (among others) that requires all devices connected to it to be HDCP-compliant. See here for more info than you wanted to know:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection

TVs with HDMI connections are HDCP compliant and so is your computer, but it seems your projector is not (probably a little older, no?). So even if you could run a DVD player into your computer (we'll get to that in a moment) you would still have the same problem. The problems are:
1. Your computer's HDMI is most likely Output only (there are some machines with HDMI input but they have HDCP issues also). So you can't connect the DVD player to it and see its output - unless you have a Video (and audio) capture card (if it's a desktop) or USB capture device (if a laptop, or a desktop).
2. I am confused why you would connect your DVD player to the computer AND to the projector (unless you mean connect the DVD to the computer and from the computer to the projector, which still wouldn't work, even with RCA connections - your computer doesn't have these anyway, does it?).
3. Your best bet, if it's what you want to do, is just connect the DVD player straight to the projector (if the DVD player has the Yellow/Re/White A/V connections).
Does this make sense? Write back with additional details if I have misunderstood or you have more Qs...

Can you attach a DVD player to a computer to play movies?

rae-ann

My CD/DVD player stopped working on my computer (I can't even open the drives anymore).

I have a spare, small DVD player that used to be attached to my TV.

Can you attach a DVD player to a computer in order to play movies on your computer? Or do they only work with TVs?

I realize you probably can't burn things, but I thought just for movies. It would be cheaper than having to buy another external piece for the computer.

Thanks!

Answer
You can if your computer has a TV tuner or video capture card (with the necessary audio and video inputs). Otherwise you can't. Internal DVD drives aren't that expensive anymore, so I'd recommend just buying a replacement.

Who thinks The Wii is the only video games console thats a pure gaming console not a dvd player or a computer?

best dvd player for computer on best sellers the new york times best sellers children s books ...

Graham

The PS3 and the Xbox 360 are bunch of dvd player and a computer and not a video games consoles like the wii or the Nintendo ds also the ps3 and the 360 also are ps2 and xbox with updated graphics nothing else and at least Nintendo tried something new with the wii and Nintendo is the 1st came up the idea with motion controls not Sony but Nintendo and Nintendo had motion control with the power glove so Sony is not the 1st to have motion controls but Nintendo.

Answer
JD: Really? You need good graphics for a pure game console? Right. That makes perfect sense. It doesn't matter if the gameplay is good, but if the graphics are good? OK, I've got an idea: Stop playing video games, and buy a REALLY good camera. Then take a bunch of pictures with that. You see? That has REALLY good graphics! Meanwhile, leave the video games to the people who actually PLAY games.

Anyway, to respond to your question: I would have to agree with you... well, for the most part, anyway. You have to admit that without the Wii Motion Pus, the controls are pretty gimmicky. That, and the Wii, wasn't actually the first console to use motion controls. Look up the XavixPORT sometime. It was released 2 years before the Wii, and still uses motion controls. Yes, the Power Glove came FAR before both the Wii AND the XavixPORT, but the XavixPORT was the first console to exclusively use this technology. Anyway, I will agree that the Wii is the console that focuses more on the games. It would be nice to have a DVD player, but the Wii clearly focuses on the gameplay value more than the PS3 and Xbox 360, and still would even with a DVD player. If you didn't know, the 3DS is going to have the capability to play 3D movies. Still, Nintendo themselves even said that the games are the most important part of a console, and that the 3DS focuses on the games. (And with a pretty awesome starting lineup) Although, I will be honest, if the 3DS's camera can take 3D video, that would be awesome! Even though it should be just a game console, I really wouldn't care at that point.

(By the way, 3D isn't just a gimmick. there are some really cool elements game developers could do with 3D.)

How can I play my DVD player through my computer?

I would like to hook my DVD player to my computer because my CD/DVD rom drive is broken. How can I do this, and will my computer recognize the DVD player as a drive?

Answer
You would need a TV Tuner card to be able to do that.

If your DVD player has composite output, then you should look for a TV Tuner card with composite input.

Then again, replacing the DVD drive would probably be less expensive than buying a TV Tuner card, so buying a new DVD drive is probably the better choice.

Both play perfectly with VLC player but are extremely choppy with WMC/WMP. I have updated my driver's on my dual video cards already. I have checked/changed every setting I can find in both Catalyst control center and windows media player to no avail. Please help!
I am running Win 7 64 bit, 16gb of memory, two AMD Radeon HD 7800 series video cards and a i7-3820 3.6Ghz processor.

Hello,

Update your Windows Media Player, directX and the sound driver. You can use RadarSYnc to automatically update the drivers in your computer. However, it might not work with Media Player and DirectX.

I hope this helps!

How much RAM is necessary for Windows 7?

I'm looking into getting a mini laptop, probably a VAIO W series or HP mini. They both come with Windows 7 Starter, but only 1 GB of RAM. Is that enough?

I would be adding MS Office to it, but other than that I would only be using Firefox, iTunes, and a DVD-player software.
I guess I'm asking if it would run fast or would it be sluggish? Like, is 1 GB the minimum or is it sufficiently enough?

Answer
for win 7 starter yes, but you are at the bare minimum so watch out if you are going to do some resource incentive stuff. Then again you aren't supposed to do much besides surf the web on a netbook.

Is it possible to update/change a Laptop (VAIO) DVD Player to a Blue Ray Player?

TheHelper

I have a VAIO Laptop with a DVD Player (Windows Media Player). Is it possible If the shop can change my DVD Player so that it can play Blue Rays and DVDs?

Thank You,
X
PS: If possible, please list your source.

Answer
I can't say definitely for your model, but usually laptop CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives are replaceable even if they're not meant to be user replaceable.

Your best option is to take it to a computer repair shop, they can open it up and have a look
(note opening laptops is a very fiddly procedure there is like a million screws and you need a precision screwdriver set to do it.).

If it is, you or the repair shop should be able to purchase a " laptop blu ray drive " from ebay or a computer parts seller. It doesn't matter what make, it's a standard fitting.

How Do I hook up my Tv, Surround Sound, Xbox 360, and DVD Player with the best quality?

best dvd player for audio quality image

TonyV

I have a 50" TV with 3hdmi, A 5.1 Sony Surround Sound, A Xbox 360 Slim, and a 6 disc DVD player. All have Hdmi.
So how do I set this up the best audio and video quality for playing games and watching tv or movie?
Also what wires would i have to need.

Answer
If everything has HDMI, then you will need 3 HDMI cables.

Connect your Xbox360 and your DVD player to your Sony receiver using 2 of the HDMI cables. Then connect the receiver to the TV using the third HDMI cable.

Now all you have to do is assign the HDMI inputs properly.

How to connect audio from dvd player when using a projector?

Jack King

I can get a video signal to connect perfectly to my projector from my dvd player, (using the yellow lead of the VGA cable), but I can't find a way to connect the audio to the seperate speakers. Any ideas?

Answer
If you are wanting to send an audio feed to another location such as an amplifier for higher quality speakers, you can use a "Y" cable at the DVD player that converts a single RCA connection into 2 connections. Radio Shack will carry a good quality cable of this type.

See here...

or

Monoprice.com will have these type of cable adapters at much lower prices.

My friend wants to install a headrest dvd player for his car.But both he and I don't much about this. Can someone help me?Thanks!

If not, you bonk to paste it and move for the cement to dry, which can need a few hours. Both kinds of Fabric strips can be pioneer at your topical plate transformation outlet.
7. Dispense 2-inch Cloth strips to the hinder of the DVD supervise. Estate this into the pickle of the cushion, and the display sticks into it. Cord the cable for the monitor along side the metal poles that introduce the cushion to the set.

Where can I get a good DVD player with Headrest TV screens?

Ben

I was trying to find those headrest TV screens and a DVD player for my 2007 Dodge Ram but can't seem to find anything for my truck. Is there a good place to buy that? I went to Best Buy today and they were clueless and told me that they can only get those for SUV's. Is that true? Why not a truck?

Answer
There probably isn't enough business for a company to build vehicle-specific units for trucks. And at any rate, I've found that the folks at Best Buy are clueless in just about everything.

Here's one source for a generic unit that replaces the factory headrests. The mount is adjustable from 4-7" so it will fit most vehicles. Just measure the "posts" on your headrests to see if it fits. These are delivered with black, gray, and tan covers.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_385CLD700/Concept-CLD-700.html?search=headrest+dvd

Crutchfield will tell you if they fit.

If you are a first-time purchaser at Crutchfield you can get a $20 discount off a $200 order if you use a "friend referral code" such as mine, which is: p7sdj-hrx8q-9800g, plus free shipping. Oh!, I get a $20 merchandise credit too.

I'm wondering if a dvd that upconverts in HDMI will play movies in high definition?

Would I just be better off buying a hd dvd player? Want a surround sound system, but the only one I can afford ($350.00) says it upconverts in HDMI. Wondering what will the picture quality be like on my new Vizio 37" flat panel hd tv? Should I just go ahead and buy the hd dvd player and later buy an hd audio receiver with speakers?

Answer
in response to the last answer 720p and 1080i are considered true hd as well, infact in tvs under 50 inches you wont see a difference between 1080p and 720p unless youre within a few feet of the television. the blue ray is the only reason to go 1080p other then that most shows or sports broadcast via cable or satelite are filmed at 720p. but to answer your question the only way to get hd out of a dvd player is with and hd player or a blue ray

How do I price these items for a garage sale?

Kaytee

I am moving overseas and selling almost all my stuff. I don't expect to get a lt o money for small items, but I was wondering how I can price electronics and small appliances such as:
19'' TV (retail $98)
Sanio DVD player (retail $50)
Sony boombox (retail $60)
Microwave (retail $60)
Recliner chair (retail $300)
Panasonic bread maker (retail $120)
Cuisinart immersion blender (retail $30)
All stuff is relatively new, well-functioning and very clean. And how do I price appliances which retail under $20 (such as waffle iron, minichoper, hand mixer, blender)?
I have never been to a garage sale and have no idea what people pay for what.

Answer
I know it hurts to sell for so much less than you paid, but used is used even if only a short time. I'd put or expect to get $50 on the TV, $25-$30 on the DVD player and boombox, you'll be lucky to get $20 on the microwave and bread maker. $10-$15 on the blender, but think you'll really get $10 or under. You can get toasters new for $4 - $6 at garage sales as well as your other small stuff. Start off with it a little higher than what you really want, so you have room to bargain. If you price it $15, but would be happy with $10 then you can give them $5 off and they feel they got a bargain! Make sure to put out plenty of readable signs with arrows, nothing worse than trying to find a sale and you can hardly read the signs and get plenty of change! They will hit you with a bunch of $20 in the morning and then you'll run out. Never save an item for someone with out a deposit. They say they will come back, but rarly do unless they've left a deposit. Then you may miss selling it to someone else. Don't be surprised when you have it priced $5 and they offer you $1! Stick to your guns and don't give your stuff away unless you want to. Best wishes on your sale and move!!

Will this cord work to connect my dvd player to my computer screen?

It has red yellow and white plugs on one side like the ones from the dvd player that plug in the tv on one side and it has that big blue thing you have to screw into the tv on the other. will this work to connect my dvd player to a computer moniter to watch movies?

Answer
Nope. There are no simple cords that will allow you to connect a composite-RCA source to a computer monitor blue VGA port.

Those VGA-to-composite-RCA cords are intended for video cards with a specially-built VGA port that can also send out a composite signal.

It will NOT work if you try to use it in reverse to connect a composite source like your DVD player to a VGA monitor. You will get no image.

Why not just play DVDs on your computer? Most likely your computer already has a DVD drive built-in.

How is the Airport Security now on International Travel?

emac4lyf

I will be traveling to Philippines on January..

Can I bring my laptop, cellphone, Ipod, or Portable DVD player with me as a handcarry?

I just heard in the recent that they have tightened the security that you cannot even bring water to the plane..

Whoa!! What else do they want us to do? Be naked in the flight, or wear some kind a suit that they provide for security purpose.

Please let me know.. I don't want my Electronic device to be confiscated and be put in for check in baggage.

Alse please let me know what or not to bring on my handcarry luggage..

Any Experience?

Answer
I think they have relaxed security now compared to last month when the UK bomb threat was going on. Check out TSA's website...They have very clear explanations on what to carry in handbaggage and what not.
