How to put HD Quality Videos on a CD-R and play them in a DVD Player?

Jonathan R

I was wondering if you could somehow put videos on a CD-R and play them through a DVD player. I understand that a normal CD-R holds about 700 megabytes and if you have videos that wit fit on that size of a disc, I was wondering how I could get them to play through a DVD player. I have some HD videos that are 720p, and 1080p. And my DVD player is hooked up to my HDTV through component cables. So I want to find out if there is some way to put them on the disc and get them to PLAY IN HD. If you can help, thank you very much.

Answer
First Dude if your Dvd Player is not A HD-Dvd Player THIS WONT HAPPEN!!!!! HD-Dvd players are still in the $1000 to $800 range. Your dvd player is showing a progressive scan picture which is still 480p not 720p or 1080p. Simple answer no. You need a High Definition Dvd Player to do what your asking. You can still put ur movies on the cd and they will still look great just not true HD.

what video formats play on a regular TV dvd player?

NYCPulpWri

I want to burn a DVD for my mother, a picture slideshow set to music, but I don't what is the correct format which plays on a regular DVD player. Would WMV play on it? If not, what format?

Please answer soon, I got 6 days till Christmas.

Answer
A regular DVD player plays files of the format .VOB.

A DVD you would buy in a shop would have files organised into two folders: AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.

The AUDIO_TS folder is used for DVD Audio and used to contain the audio files for an movie on the disc. This is not really used any more with todays formats, but DVD's are still packed this way for clarity.

The VIDEO_TS folder contains files of the format .IFO, .VOB, and .BUP

VOB (Video Object): A VOB contains several streams multiplexed together: Video, Audio and Subtitles. It is essentially equivalent to MPEG format on a computer, but some players have difficulty playing the entire MPEG format and will skip and jump. Better to convert to .vob format.

IFO: IFO Files give the player important navigational information, like where a chapter starts, where a certain audio or subtitle stream is located, etc.
This is the reason why it's only possible to rip certain parts of a movie (like a chapter) with a ripper which can read this files.

BUP: These files are just backup files of the IFO files. As their counterparts they are not encrypted.

To create a DVD to be read on a player, you need DVD creation software to convert your .WMV, .AVI and other files you would normally play on a computer to these more accessible formats.

A good version of a DVD creator will probably cost you a few pennies, but it is worth it in the long run as you will use it often to create home movies directly with.

If you are making a movie from scratch, get a DVD creating software.

If you are converting files, get a YourformatToDVD (e.g. aviToDvd) converter.

How to change bad looking subtitles on DVD I create?

Tammy

I've been working on some subtitles for a project I was in.
The subtitles look fine when I use VLC media player with the video + srt files.
I want to burn this project to a DVD but when I create the ISO file and check how the subtitles look, after adding them as an option with the DVD creating software I use (DVD Styler, but this happened with other softwares as well) the subtitles look very bad. I tried changing the font but it didn't help.

Here are examples of what happens -
http://s18.postimg.org/wmd374ttl/vlcsnap_2013_04_10_17h52m24s190.png
http://s13.postimg.org/9fcr8yah3/vlcsnap_2013_04_10_17h52m41s117.png

BTW - the default font on both VLC and my DVD creating software for subtitles are Arial.

(not interested in buying special fonts)

Answer
Subtitles on a dvd are actually bitmap images, not text. They're not part of the video either so the mpeg-2 compression doesn't affect them. Sometimes the conversion process from text to images just doesn't come out very good.

You could try making a test dvd ("just generate" to your hard drive, don't make an actual disc) with lots of short videos and just try different settings for the subtitle appearance. Font (including bolding), size, outline thickness, shadow and whatever other options are available can affect the quality. Don't forget to save the project so you can go back and see which settings looked good.
This would be a good question to ask at DVD Styler's forum (or other dvd authoring software) so someone who's already gone through all that can give you a recommendation. http://forum.videohelp.com/ and http://forum.doom9.org are other good places to ask for advice.
(results from both these sites come up if you google: best font for dvd subtitles )

Evil Dead Steelbook 2013?

Sam

I really want to get the new evil dead movie on steelbook but it is only available in bluray. I don't have a bluray player. Should I just buy it and wait til I get one? It just get the dvd?! I'm pretty sure the steelbook doesn't come with a dvd

Answer
No, the "Evil Dead" Steelbook is only for Blu-Ray, it doesn't come for DVD. I'd just suggest getting a Blu-Ray player, especially if your a fan of films, Blu-Ray plays the best quality picture and sound for a film, that's the reason I buy Blu-Ray's, but if you don't have a HD TV, the Blu-Ray player won't play the quality, It never for me, but when I got a HD TV, it started playing the films in 1080p quality. I was thinking of getting the Steelbook, but I haven't seen it or the original and plus i'm not 18, so I wouldn't be able to buy it. Glad if I helped.

DVD Player/Recorder?

Helping to

How do these machines operate?? Is the quality any good??

How much can you fit onto a standard DVD disk??

Answer
DVD players simply focus a dot of light on a prestamped or burned disk using a laser, reading highly compressed pits and lands. A DVD burner works much like a cd burner does, using a near infrared laser it focuses a very small laser dot onto the dye layer of a recordable DVDR, the heat from the laser changes the texture of the dye creating the pits and lands, DVDRW discs are way different, they use a liquified crystalline solution that solidifies when exposed to a specific temperature for a specific amount of time, when it comes time to erase a re-writable disk simply re-liquifies the solution. You can fit 4.7 GB on a single layer single sided disc and a little over 8GB on a dual layer disk.

Can I record from a dvd player to dvd recorder?

missymoome

I mean instead of recording just straight tv.

Answer
Assuming the tape/DVD that you're trying to copy is not copy protected or copyright material, yes you can. It is a very simple process of hooking up the outputs of the player to the inputs of the recorder. I would recommend that you use the SVHS video output (if there is one) and the two red/white audio outputs into their respective inputs. Put your source on to play, put the recorder on record. You may need to locate the "line in" for the recorder to see the video and audio signals you want to record.

I tape my daughters basketball games and burn them to DVD. Sometimes I need to make copies. It is an easy thing.

If you're trying to copy a commercial DVD, such as a movie, you will find this won't work. Thus the term "copy protected." There are methods, using a computer, that will overcome copy protection, but breaking any method of DRM (digital rights management) is illegal.

Good luck!

Are UK movies compatible with American DVD/VCR players?

Q. Hello Yahoo Answers Community :]

So recently I was obsessed with actor Jim Sturgess, and I made a promise to myself that I would watch every single one of his movies [Which I did, by the way]. So far I had only seen 21 and Across the Universe, both american made and directed, and both of which I had on DVD. So I went on a 'watch free movies online' site and watched the UK made and directed film, 'Heartless'. I really really wanted to buy the movie, and I saw that somebody was selling it on eBay. But the listing said something about it being a 'Region 2 PAL' movie, and that it wouldn't be compatible with some DVD players. So my questions are, what is the deal with 'Region 2 PAL' movies, will it play on my standard DVD/VCR player [I think it's Sony], and if not, what can I do to make it compatible? Please help!

Thanks!
~Mari
If you can't tell by the title, yes, I live in America, and we bought a DVD player that would be found in many American households.

Answer
While Region Codes can be hacked and overridden, the PAL TV system used in the UK is entirely incompatible with the NSTC TV system used in America. If you're in the US, then your TV and your DVD player are NTSC.

Your only hope to view PAL DVDs is to make copies using the proper software on your computer. What it does is decode the PAL video to its basic RGB upon ripping, and then re-encodes it to NTSC when burning the copy to a new disc. You'll probably also need additional software to avoid copy protection schemes on the DVD.

They don't make it easy, for sure.

Is there any point in buying an expensive DVD player?

zarreff

I bought my DVD player from walmart 4 years ago for 20 bucks and it still works perfectly. All DVD players play DVD's so why would any pay more than 20 bucks for one?

Another thing too; if anything happens to my DVD player well it was only 20 bucks...other people spend over 100 bucks on theres so if that goes out they gotta shell out more dough.

Answer
At this point, no.

It's more financially better to buy a Blu-Ray player as it plays both DVD and Blu-Ray and it can usually upscales the DVD's movies and shows or whatever.

Or if you are a gamer, you should buy a PS3 or an Xbox 360. It has the DVD capability that you might be interested in.

We did have the kind where there are 2 tvs and they attach to the headrest. They just don't work at all now. Not sure what happened to them. We were thinking about getting them each there own dvd player to hold now. Our girls are 2 and 5 though. Any suggestions on good kid friendly dvd players? Portable DVD player that streams Netflix?

I am looking into buying a great portable DVD player that will let me stream movies from Netflix. I have looked into the Samsung BD-C8000. It seems good, but a bit expensive. Is there any other less expensive brand or model I could buy? What do you think about the Samsung model and other ones?

You're not going to find Netflix on a portable DVD player. The Samsung Blu-Ray player you mentioned is an excellent choice.

Bluray Player or DVD Player?

Sam

Hi, I have a question regarding movie players. In your opinion, should I buy a Blu-Ray Player or a DVD Player. I know a Blu-Ray player is much more expensive as well as the movies, however, if I remember correctly I can also play DVD's on a Blu-Ray player and it will upconvert it to 1080i. So my plan is to get regular movies on DVD and play it on the Blu-Ray player and if there's a movie like Avatar or 2012 the movies that just has to be watched in HD I'll get the Blu-Ray Version of the movie.

So Basically what I'm asking is:

1) Will a Blu-Ray player play both DVD and Bluray so I can get movies I like on Blu-Ray and regular movies on DVD?

2) Which is better? To get the Blu-Ray player or DVD player?

Please answer in detail, Thanks in advance! Cheers! :D

Answer
Most (not all) blu-ray players play dvd's too and some (by no means all) will upcovert to 1080i although it is still not as good as watching something that is HD as source.

How do I get the DVD player to play while driving?

Meghan

I just bought a dodge Durango crew 2012 and the kids hate having to wait for me to put the car on park to watch a movie

Answer
its not illegal to remove or modify the dvd disable function. but its illegal for you to be distracted by the player or radio or gps while driving as you could also be ticketed for distracting other drivers if they are able to view the movie through your windows at night...look it up. google stories about morons watching porn who are now registered sex offenders because children in other cars where able to view the screen. more importantly you asking how to disable a feature that is there to help you keep your kids safe while your driving. just because they hate waiting ? long trips are also a good time to talk to your kids too . so i wont be telling how to do it. my kids where allowed to bring books and a small clip on book light.

Pc DVD PLAYER NOT OPENING?

Q. I have a dvd in my PC. It was playing just fine a few minutes ago. Just now it won't open PLEASE HELP! What do I do? Please explain throughly! Thanks! :(
If I click the eject button on the DVD player the light turns green and starts making a noise. Like BBMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Then it turns off again. If I put the pin in nothing happens and if I go to computer and click eject from there it turns on and starts making nois and turns off again.
It's a HP DVD WRITER DVD630

Answer
On the DVD drive itself there should be a little hole, get a pin and poke it in the hole, this should activate the emergency release and your dvd drive drawer should pop open.

If not, go into 'my computer' and right click on the dvd drive, then click 'eject' to see if that works.

EDIT:
Try using the end of s straightened paper clip and applying more pressure, if it doesn't work with the computer on, try turning the computer off and doing it. It should open a little so that you can open it fully to remove the DVD, though when it closes again it may not open again when you try and open the drive the normal way.

If the disk is jammed or broken inside the drive, access may require the removal of the drive's outer case. If this is necessary, it is very likely that the drive will have to be replaced.

At the moment i am out of ideas, i will edit if i can think of another solution to try

My PC DVD player doesn't work...?

TyphoonZX

I have Windows Media player 10, but I cna't play DVDs in my computer...(I think it may have been connected to when I uninstalled Interactual DVD player) If it is, where can I get it again?

Answer
Many times, the DVD software is licensed with the hardware.
If the software is still installed but you removed the DVD player, and installed a different player, the software may not work.
If this is the case, reinstall the older DVD drive along with the newer DVD. If the software detects the old drive hardware in the system, the software should work.
You will have to set the master/slave jumpers properly to get two drives to work on the same cable. One must be set to master, and be at the end of the bus, the other must be set to slave.
If only one drive is in the system, set the jumper to CS cable select. If you get it wrong, the computer may not boot, but will not result in damage.

Buying a portable dvd player?

poodle

I want to buy one as a present for my husband for when he flys on business (which is often) but I don't want to spend loads on it at all. What is a good deal and what do I need to look for in a portable dvd player? What features should it have and what size should it be etc.

Answer
When shopping for a portable DVD player, keep in mind how you will be using the device. For example, if you plan to use a portable solely in the car to keep the kids occupied on long road trips, then the screen size and the inclusion of an AC adapter, which will allow you to power the player via your vehicle's power outlet, are more important than the unit's weight or the life expectancy of the battery. Conversely, if you are buying a portable DVD player to take with you on long flights, look for a lightweight model with plenty of battery life. If you usually travel with a spouse or colleague, or if you have two kids, opt for a model with dual headphone jacks and a larger screen size so two people can comfortably enjoy a movie while sitting next to each other.

USA 3D dvd work on Uk dvd player?

Danielleee

Hey,
I really want to get the Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Experience, movie but the bonus features one, with the extra performances ect. But I don't think it will be up for sale in the UK.
I'm considering ordering it from America, would an American DVD work in a UK DVD player? Does being a 3D DVD make any difference?
Please help. xD
thanks. x

Answer
A dvd made for US doesn't play in a UK made DVD player(different region code). But if your DVD player is region free then it will be able to play a US DVD.
If your DVD player isn't region free then go to www.videohelp.com,DVDhack section, enter the brand and model of your DVD player and follow the instructions to make your DVD player region free(before order the DVD in the us check if there is a hack for your DVD player).

Most UK dvds are region locked to region 2 PAL and will not play. All Warner dvds though are region 0 so UK Warner dvds will play on a US dvd player.

Giving which type of dvd player you have, most are easy to be made region free simply by Googling the make & model number and asking how to. Most players are easy to unlock :)

what is better as a dvd player xbox or playstation 2?

Q. actually the xbox dvd remote i can buy it now on ebay brand new for $5.30

Answer
Why PS2, why not PS3. It's a way better console, better games, and plays Blu-Ray movies. Ok it may be a little more expensive but it will be worth it in the end.
Between the end of this year and 2012 they will be switching of ALL tv channels for analog TV's and the only way you will get a signal is if you have a tv with a HD tuner.

www.parliament.uk/documents/upload/postpn264.pdf

this link is from the UK, but i've seen articles from the US and from where i live in Australia about Analog signals been turned of.

also DVD's and DVD players will cease to exist, Blu-Ray will do what dvd's did to tapes.

In the short run it's probably a lot to waste in your eyes.
But in the long run it's going to be your only option.
Until Xbox installs Blu-Ray players and buys shares from Sony over it.

Answer
I don't know where to buy a multi-regional dvd player, maybe you can try to make region free DVD from your region limit DVDs, then play the region free DVD on any region limit DVD player, you can try RZ DVD COPY, it can make region free DVD from region limit DVD, it can directly copy video DVD to new DVD writeable disc, to hard disk DVD folder, or to hard disk ISO file.

Work well, easy to use, you can download RZ DVD COPY from:

Find a player there's a DVD region free code for and buy that, There are various sites which list the code you have to enter to make the player region free such as http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks Really cheap never-heard-of-it-brand players tend to be region free but there's no guarantee and you really don't want to buy junk if you don't have to.

dazedconfu

are these worth it? what are some good brands?

Answer
I have an older model van and didn't want to put the expense into installing a DVD player in it permanently. We looked into portable DVD players but they seemed unstable and would mount lower than we wanted (most of them mounted in-between the front head rests so that people in the back seat would have a hard time seeing the screen) When we were getting ready to drive to Utah with small children we realized we needed something to keep them entertained. Then we found a dual screen portable DVD player and we love it. It is an RCA 7" 16:9 Portable DVD Player with Dual TFT-LCD Monitors. The two screens can be mounted separately and attach to headrests. (We put one on the front seat headrest and the second on the middle seat headrest) The screen is also the DVD player so there are only the two parts with a cable running between them. The nice thing about the one that we bought is that you can take it with you into a hotel room and it will play the DVD on a regular TV and it also comes with video games that can be played either while the second screen is watching a movie or displayed on a TV. (the video games aren't high graphics but are geared towards younger kids, although we had fun playing them too. Some of them are 80's knock-offs like frogger and centipede) The $200 was well worth the hours of quiet (non-fighting) travel time. Good luck!

What is a good DVD player that has Wi-fi built-in?

Jacob

I'm looking for a DVD player that has Wi-fi built-in. I'm not looking to stream Netflix or Pandora, I'm actually looking for the capability to stream videos/pictures that are on my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, I'm not looking for anything really expensive or additional features (i.e. Blu-Ray, 3D).

Answer
There are plenty of blu ray players with WiFi, but I've not seen a DVD player with WiFi. If your TV has an input that matches your PC's output, you could just connect your PC directly to your TV without WiFi.

What is the benefit of having a wifi blueray dvd player?

Wayne

As I begin the process of buying a Blueray player, I'm confused over those that have wifi. I guess I don't know why a player needs an internet connection. Could someone fill me in on this?

Answer
1. the biggest reason why it would need an internet connection is if you bought it in hopes of streaming netflix/youtube/pandora radio etc. most people want a wireless connection because they do not want to deal with wires and running them etc, i would still recommend going wired especially if you are watching hd video since a wireless connection usually wont have the speeds necessary for hd video.

2. you can download apps to your smartphone ipod touch etc, so that you can use them as a remote, or to pass files from one source to another, example would be, if you wanted to look at the pictures in your phone on your tv you can do that through your bluray player.

3. this was the original reason why bluray players wanted/needed an internet connection, firmware updates, with bluray discs the way they are manufactured changes, they constantly improve the way its done to give you better performance, and with that you need to update the firmware so that it can continue to read all the new bluray movies out there. it just makes it easier being able to download the firmware directly to the machine vs having to download it to your pc and then burning it to a disc etc.

wifi isnt that necessary. but if you ever plan on going wifi then i would advise buying it with it built in versus buying the adaptor which costs more than the 2 combined. and usually 30-40 more. plus most retail stores have deals from the manufacture that will give away a free adaptor.

VLC Player not playing disc correctly on Windows 7 64-bit?

smilingisi

- Downloaded the most recent version of VLC Media Player, just in case
- Insert (TV-series) disc, try to open
- Extremely choppy audio, no visual
- Uninstall VLC, reinstall, try again, same results
The only alternative I have is Windows Media Player, which requires me to change my region - as a fan of multi-region DVDs I'd much rather not do that. Yes, I'm using the most recent version of VLC.

Drive: Slimtype DVD A DS8A8SH KAA2, region-protected, currently region 2.

Is there any way I can make this work? Thanks.
Using an Asus K53E Laptop, if that makes a difference.

Answer
Try KMPlayer.exe it works good for me.

Download ITunes to Windows 7 64 bit?

squidball

I understand that if I download iTunes it can be problematic and near impossible to delete should a problem occur. I am looking for a program that is simple to use, reliable and inexpensive, that will allow me to rip and burn a CD, and print a playlist for a jewel box. I have tried Creator 11 w/o much success. Years ago Creator 5 Worked very well and was easy to use. Not so anymore.I am looking for a program that is simple to use, reliable and inexpensive, that will allow me to rip and burn a CD, and print a playlist for a jewel box. Any help, suggestions or ideas will be appreciated.
Thank you

Answer
Well, the best way that I know is to rip the CD directly from the default Windows Media Player, and store the files anywhere on your computer, and for printing the covers for a jewel case, then I would highly recommend using Acoustica CD/DVD Label Maker, its about $22. {plus, if you have a hard time uninstalling, like you said with I-Tunes, then use I-Obit Uninstaller and Unlocker, it works like a charm to remove hard-to-remove programs} But that's just me...

Do I need an upscaling DVD player with my new HDTV?

g c

Hello. I Just got a Panasonic TH-42PX60U. I have an older Panasonic DVD-S35 DVD player (progressive scan). I'm about to go out and buy component cables (not S-video cable which is the only other plug in the back of the dvd player).

Should I buy the component cables or just go buy a new upscaling DVD player?

Thanks from a true newbie.

Answer
Just use the DVD player you have for now. Component cables will get you great picture quality and you will be able to take advantage of the progressive scan capabilities of your DVD player with these as well. Make sure you enable this option on your DVD player. It will either be in the on screen setup menu or as a switch on the unit itself.

You're TV has a built in upscaler that will automatically scale the 480p resolution sent out by your DVD player to the native resolution of the display. The reason why upconverting DVD players exist is just because they have chips that try to do it better than the built in upscalers. Some DVD players excel at this and some do it no better or even worse than the TV.

Will it make a difference if you had a very good quality upconverting DVD player such as an OPPO? Yes it would make a difference. Is it worth dumping a perfectly good DVD player and buying a $200+ one? No. The difference in picture quality will be minimal and mainly discernable in text. Most people will not be able to tell the difference watching the actual movie from normal viewing distances.

Also, when you go buy component cables, DO NOT let them sucker you into Monster or other expensive cables that will claim to increase your picture quality. Either get a generic phillips or something brand for fairly cheap or buy them from www.monoprice.com. Try not to spend over $20 for a 6 foot cable.

Enjoy your television. It is an excellent plasma.

P.S. turn the video settings off "Vivid" and to "standard". Vivid will oversaturate some colors and make things look unnatural.

HDTV and DVD Players?

travis ric

I know this is a stupid question but in not that great at this kind of electronics. Just computers but, do i need a special DVD player to play high def movies, or do i just need HDMI cords for regular players.

Answer
you need an up-scaling dvd player but they don't upconvert to full 1080p only Blu-ray players do. chances are it your player has an hdmi out it is of the upconverting type. your question on the hdmi "cables" is abit confusing since only one is required for HD and it is capable of carring both the audio and vidio signals from your dvd player to your HDTV
