Answer
Why would anyone want to watch DVDs in a car? Seems stupid.

How are poor americans in poverty when many of them own a fridge?

DEMOCRAT C

http://newsroom.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/11/poverty-in-america-if-poor-people-own-luxury-items-are-they-really-poor/

"âAccording to the governmentâs own survey data, in 2005, the average household defined as poor by the government lived in a house or apartment equipped with air-conditioning and cable TV. The family had a car (a third of the poor have two or more cars). For entertainment, the household had two color televisions, a DVD player, and a VCR,â the Heritage Foundation report reads."
:) LOL

Answer
So owning a refrigerator makes one "not poor?" That sounds like conservative logic. Logic being highly suspect, that is.

This sansui dvd/vhs player/ recorder is over 10 yrs old but I mainly use it to play dvds but all of a sudden the remote has been acting weird. I put new batteries in and it started to work fine but now it wont even work. The player works fine but the remote doesn't. Can I buy a universal remote to make it work?

Answer
You can, but you will likely lose some functions. I have a Phillips universal remote that was much easier to set up than others that I've used. I can't find a model number or part number on it. It was $14.95 at CVS. It automatically searches for the appropriate codes.

How can I transfer a video cassette onto a DVD with my DVD/VHS player?

Chelly

I have this old video tape and I want to transfer it to a DVD using my DVD/VHS player WITHOUT any expensive devices/software. If it isn't possible, then give me any other info you have on easy ways to do this.

Answer
If it's something you recorded off a television broadcast, or a home video you taped with your camcorder or whatever, then get yourself a DVD-Recorder...you can pick a cheap one up for around 80 bucks at Target/ShopKo/Best Buy...whatever.

I do recommend you spring for a more expensive model (one that's over 120 bucks, as it will be a higher quality unit, but that's just my opinion)

Take the VCR and hook it into the DVD Recorder as an input. Instructions provided in the manual will tell you how to operate the unit, but it's almost always very simple to do.

You'll need blank media (DVD-R or DVD+R, usually) but you can find those at almost any electronics store as well - just ask the clerk to direct you to them.

HOWEVER, If this old tape is a commercial production - a real film - then it may employ an anti-copying protection known as Macrovision. This was a 1980s technology that, when you attempted to copy the tape, it would distort the picture...make it of significantly lower quality.

This is why when, back in the day, you'd rent a tape from the video store, and when you'd try and (illegally ;-) ) copy it, it would never be nearly as good as the original.

Many modern DVD Recorders, when they recognize the presence of Macrovision on a tape, will simply *refuse* to copy it at all.

EDIT: I also noticed at Costco, just the other day, a DVD Recorder/VHS Player that had *one touch* operation in this manner - like, a 'Copy to DVD' button, right on the front. I didn't get to try it out, but I'm guessing since it was a Sony deck, it would be simple to operate and of pretty high quality.

Whats the best choice of Karaoke DVD Player?

best dvd karaoke player image

mitchiko6t

Were planinng to buy a dvd karaoke player. Our choices are Hyundai platinum, Karavision and Promac Cantana. Calling owners of these brands for your comments/review of these products. Can you tell me the best choice in terms of the following
1. price
2. availability/update of songs
3. sound quality
4. number of songs included
5. special features
6. scoring
7. package inclusions

your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
What you will really want is a multi-format karaoke player. Only a fraction of available karaoke music is available on DVD. The most song titles by far are found on CD+G discs. The largest selection and best prices on multi-format players can be found at http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?acekaraoke+9xwDVM+dvdplayers.html

how do i get the picture to appear along with sound on my television?

Answer
Itâs a marvelous age we live in. Between youtube and itunes, photoshop and consumer grade editing software, the entire world of media is at our fingertips. You can bring up a video of just about anything you want at the click of a mouse, save it to your computer, and manipulate it to fit your purposes to your heartâs content. More than a few industry professionals have used youtube and windows movie maker as a powerful resource for making video presentations at meetings, and more than a few amateur filmmakers have found their calling making goofy internet videos to show their friends.

This is exactly why itâs so incredibly frustrating when we have to deal with something that doesnât seem to be working. You know, minor technical malfunctions and equipment problems that hinder progress when we have something important weâre trying to do. One of the chief frustrations in the world of modern media is connecting laptop to TV, or rather, trying to connect TV to laptop.

Using a laptop and a television, it should be easy to show your friendâs pictures and video youâve shot or make a video presentation at work, but thereâs so much to worry about. Screen resolution, compatibility, getting the right cables and so forth. Itâs kind of a headache, and you may feel like throwing in the towel and just telling your friends or co-workers âOkay, now squint=2 0really hard at the laptop monitor, you can kind of see what Iâm trying to show you here!â

With that in mind, there are a few different ways to connect laptop to TV, and weâll get into them right awayâ¦
How to Connect Laptop to TV: Cable Options

Unless youâre onto some new technology that we havenât heard about, connecting a laptop to a TV is going to be done using a cable. You should be able to find any of these at a nearby electronics or computer store, or even your local Wal Mart.
S-Video

S-Video is perhaps the most common method, thanks in part to the fact that an S-Video cable is incredibly cheap, and most TVs these days are equipped with an S-Video port. Before buying an S-Video cable, take a look at your computer and make sure itâs equipped with an S-Video port (it should be clearly labelled).

There are two different types of S-Video cable, four pin and seven pin. Check the TV and your laptop. If they both have the same number of pins, youâre good to go and the TV will display whatever is on your laptop monitor. However, if your laptop has seven pins and your TV has four, youâre going to have to look into other options.
VGA

VGA is probably your best bet if youâre working with an HDTV. VGA gives better image and sound quality, and VGA cables are also quite cheap. However, VGA ports arenât very common on regular television sets, so this option is only really available with HDTV.
DVI

Digital Visual Interface. DVI gives the best quality image and sound, but can be kind of expensive. A DVI cable may cost between forty and fifty bucks, most computers do not have a DVI port, and only HDTVâs have a DVI port.
HDMI

HDMI will give you, bar none, the best quality. HDMI ports are pretty rare on laptops, so youâll want a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
Troubleshooting

If youâve got the right cables hooked up, you should do just fine. If no image is going through, try some trial-and-error troubleshooting: Make sure youâre on the right channel for input from the laptop, double check the cables, etcetera.

If you canât seem to get the image to show (which is unlikely if youâve plugged the cable in correctly), the problem is probably in the cable. The most common problems people face with properly connected, working cables has to do with things like resolution and aspect ratio.

Keep in mind that, especially on an HDTV, your laptop image might look a bit pixelated, almost like youâre using a Nintendo instead of a high end laptop. No matter how high res your computer is, itâs not a big-screen TV, and most documents and media files intended for computer use wonât look as good on a big screen.

Of course, you can always adjust the screen resolution in your settings for a better image on the television, just⦠donât expect miracles. Thereâs going to be a bit of quality loss.

If youâre working with a widescreen television set, you may wind up with your image stretched out. No problem, just grab the remote and adjust the aspect ratio on the television itself until it looks good (4:3 is the most common aspect ratio for laptops).

If you want to burn any movies to DVD, usually free version only have the basic functions and poor services and watermark, i have used the good and inexpesive trial version AVS Disc Creator, you can try it, it can create standard video DVD from any videos, it can burn mulit videos to one disc, it can auto fit the size, it can directly convert and burn any videos to DVD, such as avi to DVD, etc.

Work well on my computer, it is trail version, register version willl remove watermark limit, inexpensive, good service and quality, i like it, following is a step by step guide about Video DVD Creator:

I don't have my user manual for my remote and am trying to program it to control my new 3d Samsung blu ray DVD player.

Answer
I have a RC 5500SR and I can't imagine that they are that much different:
Turn off the Samsung DVD player.
Press the function selector button for DVD and the SETUP button at the same time. Hold until the indicator light blinks twice. Enter the four digit code for the Samsung DVD player (see below). If it is the correct code the DVD player will turn on or will respond to the ON/OFF button on the Marantz remote when pressed. If not, repeat the above procedure with the next code on the list:
0517, 0600, 0847.

Yes, you can stream at the same time into multiple devices, but you are limited by your bandwidth, so the quality will be worse.

Can I use my laptop to hook my dvd player to the internet?

Jim

Im would like to hook my Network Blu-Ray disk player that is eithernet ready but its not wifi ready`. Can I use my LapTop that is wifi to my dvd player to recive netflix on my tv?

Answer
ToTo raises an excellent point that I didn't even consider - sharing your Internet connection from your laptop with your BR player. It may be what you need.

You could get your BR player on your network by either using an Ethernet WIFI adapter or by using an Powerline Ethernet adapter/bridge.

With Powerline Ethernet you usually get two adapters. One adapter plugs into an A/C outlet near your player, and you connect the player's ethernet to the adapter. The other plugs into an A/C outlet near your WIFI router, and you plug another Ethernet cable into the second adapter from your router. Then the magic should happen - your BR player should appear on your network. I've used such adapters and they've performed well for me. I think they work well and are cheaper and easier to setup than WIFI adapters. but that's your other option.

Can you connect a computer to a dvd player then to a projector?

best dvd player for the computer image

diana c

Well I have a problem with my hdmi connector in my projector, so my projector won't connect to my computer, and I check if the cable was the problem, but I am able to connect my computer to my TV with the hdmi cable, so it is not the cable. So I am wondering if I can connect my dvd player to my computer somehow, then connect my dvd player to my projector with an rca cable or some cable? Is this possible will it display?
-Thank You :)))
Well actually, the projector work with my computer before but now it just stop working it it? So I don't know what happen?

Answer
If I understand you correctly, I believe you are running into HDCP. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is an anti-copying protocol implemented in HDMI (among others) that requires all devices connected to it to be HDCP-compliant. See here for more info than you wanted to know:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection

TVs with HDMI connections are HDCP compliant and so is your computer, but it seems your projector is not (probably a little older, no?). So even if you could run a DVD player into your computer (we'll get to that in a moment) you would still have the same problem. The problems are:
1. Your computer's HDMI is most likely Output only (there are some machines with HDMI input but they have HDCP issues also). So you can't connect the DVD player to it and see its output - unless you have a Video (and audio) capture card (if it's a desktop) or USB capture device (if a laptop, or a desktop).
2. I am confused why you would connect your DVD player to the computer AND to the projector (unless you mean connect the DVD to the computer and from the computer to the projector, which still wouldn't work, even with RCA connections - your computer doesn't have these anyway, does it?).
3. Your best bet, if it's what you want to do, is just connect the DVD player straight to the projector (if the DVD player has the Yellow/Re/White A/V connections).
Does this make sense? Write back with additional details if I have misunderstood or you have more Qs...

Can you attach a DVD player to a computer to play movies?

rae-ann

My CD/DVD player stopped working on my computer (I can't even open the drives anymore).

I have a spare, small DVD player that used to be attached to my TV.

Can you attach a DVD player to a computer in order to play movies on your computer? Or do they only work with TVs?

I realize you probably can't burn things, but I thought just for movies. It would be cheaper than having to buy another external piece for the computer.

Thanks!

Answer
You can if your computer has a TV tuner or video capture card (with the necessary audio and video inputs). Otherwise you can't. Internal DVD drives aren't that expensive anymore, so I'd recommend just buying a replacement.

Can I connect my computer to my DVD player through its USB port?

Jan Richar

I was wondering if my computer will act like a USB drive if I plugged it directly (using a cable, of course...) to a DVD player that has a USB port on it. And for safety, will it short out/overload/whatstheworstthatcouldhappen?

Answer
well it can be and it can't, and ur pc has USB ports as entrances, not externals, and the most important thing, if u manage to connect them both, your dvd player has a slow processor, if u plug ur pc, imagine that he reads ur 500GB hard disk in a sec? so its better to put the files u need on a USB.

Is there a program that will allow me to take digital video tape from a DV camera, edit it and then write it onto my DVD drive (DVD+Rewriteable) so that the end product can be used in a regular DVD player hooked up to a television set?

Answer
You need a video capture card/device either internal or usb. Most cards or devices come with software to convert the video once it is saved to your hard drive. I use a Dazzle USB type external capture device and the Movie Star software that came with it. All you do is hook up the color coded audio and video out cables from your camera hook them up to the capture device and open the software that came with you capture device. Press play on the camera and the record button on the software and wait for the video to dump. It does not typically dump at high speed but in real time (If you have a one hour video it will take one hour to capture it to the hard drive). Most software will convert to mpeg which can be burned to VCD and will play in most newer standalone(set top) DVD players

I need a portable dvd player that can play a lot of different formats?

The Darkne

I need a portable dvd player with usb connection that can play most of these formats: AVI, MKV, RMVB, RM, MPEG1,2,4, WMV, MP4, FLV. Or a portable dvd player that had VLC player on it or something like that.

Answer
You won't find it. Even computers have a problem with that, and need additional software (and software "players") to handle the various formats. On top of that, dozens of codecs are needed to keep up with changing software. The vast majority of DVD players are designed to handle only one standard, and portable ones, especially, wouldn't be portable anymore if they were required to be tethered to a computer USB in order to play.

Besides, the additional software capacity, and operating system to handle it, would make it expensive beyond compare. More like a portable computer with a DVD drive in it. You know, a laptop?

Can you take a portable DVD player on an airplane?

Mama

I will be taking a flight that will last about 2 1/2 hours, but my toddler is coming with me. I planned to bring her a portable DVD player and she can sit and watch cartoons to occupy the time she'll be sitting still for.

Answer
Yes, you can, I do the same thing for my toddler when we fly. Be aware that you will have to take the DVD player out of your carry-on at the security checkpoint and place it in a bin by itself to send through the x-ray machine. Once on the plane you can only have it on at cruising altitude; the flight attendants will make an announcement when electronics can be turned on, and another when they must be turned off.

Also, as a courtesy to the other passengers, please remember to bring headphones to be used with the DVD player. I have been on flights where several kids didn't have headphones, just had their DVD players blaring, and that is WAY more irritating, in my opinion, than a crying baby on a plane.

What TV is the best for BOTH picture quality and sound?

best dvd blu ray player 2011 on ... HDMI RRP$29.95 with Price-Smashed Akai Blu-Ray Player $124.95 Only
best dvd blu ray player 2011 image
Q. Which TV utilizes the best of both picture color and surround sound?
And from what company?
A pretty decent screen size, maybe 30" or something. And An HD TV (obviously), one that can support game consoles and Blue-ray. As well as having the best possible picture and sound quality. Especially when it comes to playing games and HD channels, and so on.

Answer
Not enough information. What screen size do you want? What will you do with the TV--general viewing? A lot of sports? A game box? DVD player? Blu-ray player?

The "best" TV in one category is not necessarily the best in any other category. Update your question with the missing details for the best possible answer.
-------------------
Per your additional details. The best set matching your criteria is the LG 32LE5400, per the latest Consumer Reports ratings. 32 inch, 1080p screen, 120 hz refresh rate, LED backlight. It's number one out of 16 32-inch sets tested by CR in its March 2011 issue. Should have a dazzling HD picture, including for Blu-ray, and decent performance with a game box.

What are differences between Wii and Xbox 360 graphically?

Jake

The only things I can see that are different between the two are detail, lighting effects, smoothness, and maybe a higher bit rate or frames per second or something like that. Does anyone know exactly?

Answer
Well I dont have 360 but I do have PS3 and Wii
When I firstly bought the wii i thought the graphics were pretty good
But than I bought PS3 and thought the wii's graphic's are hideous
And I got amazed with the PS3's graphic
I know cuz PS3 and 360 hav similar graphics
If this helps:This should help you alot!!!Honestly:Well if your thinking about graphics than Wii is out of the picture
My favourite is PS3
Just look at the sharp points of each system:
360
Pros:
Really good graphics
Really Good online
Not that expensive
cool features coming out
lots of good game
Cons:
online isnt free
not enough disc space to make a really big game(GTA 4 was gonna be bigger though 360 doesnt have enuf memory on its disc)
HD dvd is pointless
They overheat and break easily though
In one or more version it isnt even hd(lol?)also it goes at max of 1080i and upscales to 720p & 1080p
The HD drive costs more than 100$(what the hell?)
PS3:
Pros
LOTS OF DISC SPACE
on blu-ray
The blu-player is built in(360 HD isnt free its over 50$ + HD is dead!)
Amazing 1080p graphics
FREE ONLINE
more of the features are free
lots of good games such as MGS4(and exclusives)
LOTS OF GOOD GAMES COMING/already OUT LIKE littleBIGPLANET
Cons
Online isnt good as 360
games take long to develop
price

Wii:
Pros:
Controls CAN BE fun
Brawl
Cons:
Honestly the Wii graphics are below normal(no offence)
HORRIBLE ONLINE and barely any games have online
not that much good games coming out
games get watered down
Not a descent roster of games
Overall I think:
Though 360 is doing best
PS3 has by far the brightest future
The Wii has the best controls
PS3 has the best graphics
360 has the best online
Though the wii doesnt have that much good games coming out and the amount of good games coming out is less
go on gamespot and check how much 9.0's wii games got
and check PS3 and 360 also
And the next console is probably coming out somewhere late 2011-2012(early to mid)The PS3 now has just has just as almost good games as 360 compared to 360(Remember the one year more)
So overall you decide what you want

Have Wii and PS3 and played 360 alot and comman sense on 360

Green Arro

Like avi or xvid? I have just bought a DVD player for my uncle and so far he played only dvd format movies on it but I wanna give him a normal avi on a cd. With it play? What about a normal sub or txt subtitle along with the video file?

Answer
It depends on the DVD player. Read the manual.

Some will handle VCD, or Divx, but not raw video files burned on a CD.

What is the maximum resolution and (file) formats supported by a dvd player with HDMI output?

xenos mc

If I buy a dvd player or recorder with HDMI output can it play files recorded in High Definition with .wmw or .mkv extensions or I must convert them to .avi (with Xvid or Divx encoder)?
Also I would like to know if files recorded in HD resolution (720 or 1080) can be played by a dvd player. Thanks.

Answer
Plain old DVD (the movie format - not the physical medium) is 480p. An upscaling DVD player using HDMI can stretch that to 1080p, but the picture quality won't be as good as a blu-ray disc, which is recorded in 1080p so no upscaling is required.

If your upscaling player supports other file formats, like Divx, they should definitely support 720p, but I don't know about 1080p. You'll have to check the manual for details on what formats and versions it supports specifically. In this case, the DVD is just a storage medium, so you could put 720p or 1080p video onto the DVD and have the player output it correctly - assuming it supports the file format you wrote the movie to DVD with. Again, check your manual.

1. you won't even be able to plug it in! you need a travel adapter for india. It will take care of the 220v issue.
2. probably not because India DVDs have a different region code (5) than US (1) and the region code has to match between the dvd and the player. most DVDs and players are region coded.

I have bought a new sony DVD player from usa and hace brought it to india?

harjit s

now that dvd player is not working but keep giving message" display prohibited due to area restrictions"
. what seems to be the problem? how to rectify?

Answer
Each DVD player has a "region code" assigned to it that only allows it to play discs that are encoded to that region. The purpose is primarily to reduce pirating.

It is possible that you can reset the region code. Check your DVD manual or call the customer support number.

Ok, so I have a stereo which I usually use my auxiliary on when I watch movies, or want to listen to music from my laptop. Is there anything out there in which i can plug BOTH my dvd player and my pc into the ONE auxiliary port on my stereo? I don't want to keep switching the audio video components whenever I use one or the other.

Answer
get a headphone splitter - so u can plug both ur pc and dvd into the newly bought splitter 0 then plug the back of the splitter into the aux port.

something simple like the ebay item i put the link too should do the trick... just gotta make sure u dont have both on at once otherwise the sound will be distorted.

Is it possible to connect the AV cord of Home theatre to PC?

Rajesh S

Is it possible to connect the AV cord of Home theatre or DVD Player to PC so that video signals of the player may be viewed on the computer moniter? Do modern Mother boards have TV Tuner Cards in them?

Answer
Yes, but more so... Video cards and Video capture cards.

I'm not an expert on video capture. I'm better at PC to home theater transfer not vise versa.

However it is very possible and I'm sure people below me will explain.

Good luck

More (home theater questions)? Just e-mail me. I have owned a home theater business.

How would one burn an MP4 to DVD with an SRT subtitle file?

shotgunjoe

Could someone just give me a step by step guide as to how to burn an MPEG-4 movie file to DVD with an SRT subtitle file? I've tried Nero and DVDSanta but for some reason they won't recognise the movie file. Total Video2DVD recognised the file but when I erased my DVD-RW on it then tried to burn onto it it said "Disc is not blank, cannot be erased!"

Can someone please help?

best dvd players for kids in the car image

Matt

I am going on a trip in my familys holden captiva which has a portable dvd player inbuilt and i was wondering how to connect my ps2 to the portable dvd player. I have heard that you need a power inverter that goes into the lighter, is this correct. And also what cords do you need to plug it into the actual dvd player? Thx if you could help.

Answer
That's just plain lazy parenting. depending on your kids ages plan stops at intervals so the kids can get out, play and stretch. that's better for them and for you.

I would like to add that this is what my family and from come some of my favorite trip memories. take the chance to really bond and have some fun as a family on the way to your destination not just once your there. your trip starts when you leave home not when you get to your destination

How can a I copy a copyrighted DVD with my DVD recorder, not my computer?

5cent Frog

I've found lots of answers for programs to use with the DVD rom in your computer, but I don't have one. I have a DVD recorder that I bought to put my home moves on DVDs. That works fine. I want to copy my kids DVDs so that we can have a copy in the house and in the car. When I hook the DVD player to the DVD recorder and try to make a copy of the movie, it won't let me, it says "DVD is copyrighted" then it won't record. Well, duh I know it's copyrighted, but it isn't like I want to sell it, it's for my own use for a video I already own.

Is there anyway around this? How can I trick my DVD recorder?

Answer
Generally, there are several copy protection measures built into the hardware/software of DVD Recorders that connect to TV's.. It's nearly impossible to do, and it's a waste of time to try it that way. Ususally it involves opening the case, making modifications, and could ruin the equipment.

Instead, invest a good $50-60 in an internal DVD Burner, or $100-120 for an external burner.

Once you get the drive for your computer, you can use the following guide to burn DVDs:

You can find a full DVD Burning guide at the link below:

It includes screenshots, and links to download the 3 programs you will need to burn DVD movies.

3 Programs used in the guide (download links are included):
DVDFab decrypter
DVD Shrink
Nero
