Have you ever bought a dvd player for your children - which one?

C

I've seen commercials for the kid tough dvd player - but reviews say the screen is REALLY tiny and it still skips when the kids drops it, so is it really worth the money?

I've seen another one that was the same size but cheaper and not as "tough".

Have you ever bought one for your kids? What brand was it and do you like it?

Oh - I have two boys who are two and a daughter who is three. So I need one that's durable. They're not that rough with their toys - but they are toddlers. The DVD player is for when we take long trips.

Answer

Answer
Here is everything that I know about the PS3 as of date.

PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 (Japanese: ãã¬ã¤ã¹ãã¼ã·ã§ã³ 3,, PureisutÄshon SurÄ«?, trademarked PLAYSTATION 3,[2] abbreviated PS3) is Sony's seventh generation era video game console, third in the PlayStation series. It is the successor to the PlayStation 2 and will compete against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii. The PS3 is scheduled for release on November 11, 2006 in Japan and November 17, 2006 worldwide, and will ship in two initial configurations.

Sony officially unveiled the PS3 to the public on May 16, 2005 during an E3 conference. A functional version of the console was not at E3 2005 or the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005, although at both events, demonstrations were held on devkits (e.g. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) and comparable PC hardware, and video footage based on the predicted PS3 specifications was produced (e.g. Mobile Suit Gundam).[3] It wasn't until E3 2006 that games were shown on actual PlayStation 3 systems. In preparation for launch, Sony has announced that there will be 27 playable PS3 titles on show at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2006 on final hardware.[4]

Thus far, public reception of the console has been mixed with the Sony stock market price declining partially due to worries about the future of the PlayStation brand and its profitability.[5] However, Sony's chief has cited its widespread developer support and advanced "future-proofed" technologies such as Blu-ray and the Cell microprocessor, as ensuring the continued success of the PlayStation platform.[6]

Overview

System configuration

Sony's initial retail strategy for the PlayStation 3 will involve two different configurations that are detailed in a Sony press release.[7] The "premium" version of the PlayStation 3 will come with an internal 60 GB hard drive, Wi-Fi connectivity, HDMI output, and multiple flash memory card readers, and features a brighter cosmetic silver-colored logo and trim. The second and alternate configuration of the console will have a 20 GB internal hard drive but will not feature Wi-Fi, HDMI, or a memory card reader. The hard drive is upgradeable, and memory card and Wi-Fi support can be added through adaptors, but the HDMI support is not upgradeable.[8]

The lack of HDMI output in the 20 GB model (as with the Xbox 360 or player lacking HDCP) could potentially cause problems with restricted output resolution on Blu-ray video. An ICT flag can be set by content producers, which forces non-HDCP video down to a pixel resolution of 960Ã540 (50% greater than DVD-Video at NTSC resolution, and 25% greater than PAL resolution). SCEA president Kaz Hirai stated that it is "too early to speculate at this point" whether movie producers will activate the ICT feature.[9] According to German publisher Spiegel, a behind-the-scenes agreement was made to not enforce the ICT flag on next-generation optical formats until at least 2010, or possibly even 2012.[10]

David Wilson, Head of Public Relations at Sony Computer Entertainment UK, stated that both models will likely be sold in the UK market, but both may not be available at launch.[13] There, Sony has said that the black color is to be the first on sale, followed by the silver and white color in March 2007.[citation needed] Previously, Sony Computer Entertainment UK Marketing Director Ray Maguire had stated that only the 60 GB version would be available at launch.[22]

In Japan, Sony has opted to go with an open pricing scheme for the 60 GB model, allowing retailers to set a price point themselves. Rakuten, one of the biggest Japanese online retailers, has set their price point at ¥71,800, or ¥75,390 with taxes added (about 675 USD).[23]

The PS3 has received mixed reviews for its price. It is significantly higher than its same-generation competition in all world markets.[24] Sony has publicly defended its pricing model, citing the PS3's higher performance and inclusion of a Blu-ray drive, of which stand-alone players cost an average of US$1,000.[9]

Game pricing
There have also been statements by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) President and CEO Kaz Hirai suggesting games may cost somewhere between $60 and $100 USD[25], more than the US$60 standard for higher-priced games.[26] Futureshop, a Canadian electronics store, has priced each game at C$69.99 (~US$62[

Backward compatibility

Sony has stated that the PlayStation 3 will have backward compatibility with the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, and that every PS1 and PS2 game that observes its respective system's TRC (Technical Requirements Checklist) will be playable on PS3 at launch.[1]SCE president Ken Kutaragi asked developers to adhere to the TRC to facilitate compatibility with future PlayStations, stating that the company was having some difficulty getting backward compatibility with games that had not followed the TRCs. "Either it's accidental or on purpose; there's actually a lot of games that don't follow the TRC."[28]. It has been reported that initial PS3 units will include the CPU/rasterizer combination chip used in slim PS2 (EE+GS) to achieve backward compatibility.[29]

The PlayStation 3 does not include interfaces for legacy PlayStation devices, but there will be an adapter for the memory cards[5] so users can save their PS1/PS2 data on to a virtual memory card in the hard drive. USB devices for PlayStation 2 may be compatible with PlayStation 3. PlayStation 3 can use Memory Sticks to store save data for PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software.

Software development
The PlayStation 3, unlike the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 systems[citation needed], is based on open and publicly available application programming interfaces. The PlayStation 3 development kit was recently praised by IGN as having "distinct lack of noise and heat coming from the system". Despite earlier rumours of programming being difficult,[31] IGN reports that they were told that the dev kit "seemed extremely adaptive and easy to program for".[32]

Open standards

COLLADA, an open, XML-based file format for 3D models.[33]
PSGL, a modified version of OpenGL ES 1.0 (OpenGL ES 2.0 compliant except for the use of Cg instead of GLSL), with extensions specifically aimed at the PS3[34]
OpenMAX, a collection of fast, cross-platform tools for general "media acceleration," such as matrix calculations.[citation needed]
OpenVG, for hardware-accelerated 2D vector graphics.[citation needed]
Sublicensed

AGEIA's PhysX SDK, NovodeX.[citation needed]
Epic's Unreal engine 3.0 framework.[citation needed]
Havok's physics and animation engines.[35]
Pixelux's Game Asset Synthesis Technology[citation needed], a toolkit for advanced procedural synthesis and the Digital Molecular Matter engine plug in for Maya and 3d Studio Max
Cg 1.5, Nvidia's C-like shading language.[citation needed]
SpeedTree RT, a programming package produced by Interactive Data Visualization, Inc. that aims to produce high-quality virtual foliage in real time.
Kynogon's Kynapse 4.0 "large scale A.I."[36]
Considered standards

The list of standards they are reported to be considering includes:

IPv6, the next generation of the Internet Protocol. [37]
Sony has selected several technologies and arranged several sublicensing agreements to create an advanced software development kit for developers. In addition, in 2005 Sony purchased SN Systems, a former provider of Microsoft Windows-based development tools for a variety of console platforms; including PlayStation 2, GameCube, PSP and Nintendo DS to create additional GNU development tools. Sony is providing all developers with GNU toolchains[citation needed] where SN Systems will provide customer-oriented wrappers for GNU tools at an additional cost.

Interface and operating system

The PlayStation 3 version of the Cross Media Bar demonstrated at E3 2006 (video) included options for different user profiles, the ability to explore photos, play music and movies from the hard drive, compatibility for a USB Keyboard and Mouse, a full Internet browser and a Friends menu. In a separate demo Sony presented the "Marketplace" where users can buy and download music.

Linux will be pre-installed on the PS3 hard drive. Currently it is unknown if Linux will be the operating system used to run everything, including the Cross Media Bar, or if the system will operate as a dual boot environment, where Linux would be loaded from the Cross Media Bar menu.

Because we have plans for having Linux on board [the PS3], we also recognize Linux programming activities⦠Other than game studios tied to official developer licenses, we'd like to see various individuals participate in content creation for the PS3.
âIzumi Kawanishi on the presence of the Linux in the PS3.

PlayStation Network Platform

In response to Microsoft's successful Xbox Live network, Sony announced a unified online service for the Playstation 3's console at the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing meeting in Tokyo; tentatively titled "PlayStation Network Platform". Sony has confirmed that the service will be always connected[39], free and include multiplayer support. However developers are permitted to charge a subscription fee, as is common with MMO games.

PlayStation Network Platform (PNP or PSNP) is the online service to be provided for use with the Sony PlayStation 3 video game console.[1]

It's currently in development by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Europe with the Sony Online Entertainment. Parts of PNP will incorporate the Central Station (already working in Europe) and a possible integration with Connect.com marketplace.

Services
On March 15, 2006 at the PlayStation Business Briefing, Sony confirmed that they are preparing for an Xbox Live-like online service tentatively named PlayStation Network Platform with free online play and better network adapter sequencing.

The full list of planned services for the PlayStation Network Platform is as follows.[1]

Comparison to Xbox Live
Unlike Xbox Live (a service provided for the Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles, which has proved to be the most successful so far), Sony will offer a PNP "basic" service comparable to the Xbox Live Silver service, except that it will additionally allow users to play games online for free. However, the downloading of extra content is likely to require a fee.

Also, Xbox Live is a more unified service, with a central server and global ranking and lobby system. With PNP, developers can devise their own system and use their own servers to a way beneficial to the game.

Hardware specifications
Unless otherwise noted, the following specifications are based on a press release by Sony at the 2005 E3 Conference,[40] and slides from a Sony presentation at the 2006 Game Developer's Conference.[41]

The floating point performance of the whole system (CPU + GPU) is reported to be 2.18 TFLOPS[40]. PlayStation 3's Cell CPU achieves 218 GFLOPS single precision float and is reported at around 26 GFLOPS double precision.

Central processing unit

3.2 GHz Cell processor: one PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" and seven active 3.2 GHz Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). The PPE has a 512 KB L2 cache and one VMX (AltiVec) vector unit. Each of the SPEs is a RISC processor with 128 128-bit SIMD GPRs and superscalar functions. Each SPE has 256 KB of L1 cache/software-addressable 4.8 GHz SRAM, called the "Local Store".

Only seven of eight SPEs are active to improve yield. If one of the eight has a manufacturing defect, it is disabled without rendering the entire unit defective or affecting performance. If more than one of eight is defective, the Cell may be used in IBM BladeCenters for other applications. The current version of the PlayStation's operating system requires dedicated use of one of the seven active SPEs, leaving six SPEs directly available to applications.

E3 2005 showcased Sony's "boomerang" design, which was abandoned after poor public reaction and replaced with an upgraded wireless version of the DualShock 2 at E3 2006. The new controller features finer analogue sensitivity[48], more trigger-like R2 and L2 buttons, Home button like the PSP and Xbox 360, and a USB mini-B port for charging the internal battery and use for wired play. There are four numbered LED indicators, to identify and distinguish multiple wireless controllers. The major feature revealed was the ability to sense both rotational orientation and translational acceleration,[48] similar to the previously announced capabilities of the Nintendo Wii controller. Games that use this feature will come with an option to turn it off. Sony has stated that because of these sensors, the rumble feature of the previous controllers has been removed, reasoning that the vibration interferes with motion-sensing.[48] Haptics developer Immersion Corporation (who successfully sued Sony)[49] expressed skepticism of Sony's rationale,[50] and has since introduced tilt and motion-sensing which filters out vibration in software.

Other information
Sony revealed PS3 would use heat pipes and claims the system will be as quiet as a slim PS2[7] ~29dB (A). The PlayStation 3 is approximately 5 kg (11 lbs), 9.8 cm à 32.5 cm à 27.4 cm (3.9 in. à 12.8 in. à 10.8 in.)

best dvd player software free windows 7 image

Cassia

So, I want to create an animatic for my best friend for her birthday. It's coming up in July, and I want it to be as good as possible. What programs do I need? Would a tablet be ABSOLUTELY necessary? Do I have to use Adobe Elements?

I plan to make this less than three minutes, possibly to a song. I have Windows 7 Movie Maker (saddening, I know...). I also hope to sketch them out on paper, scan them into my computer, and clean up the sketches a bit with Adobe Photoshop.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
If you're going to draw them and scan them into the computer, a tablet isn't necessary - if you're only using the sketches. If you plan on inking and painting them using Elements or any other program, a tablet is a must.

Most free or inexpensive animation software saves to swf files which are an absolute pain because they can't be used in any free or inexpensive video editing programs without being converted to a video file type and there aren't any good, free swf converters within a gazillion miles of earth. (I spent a lot of time last summer installing and trying swf converters and finally just used a trial of a commercial program - but since the trial ran out I have no way to convert my swf animations:-(

I watched a Painter webinar on the Corel website a few weeks ago and was surprised to learn that the artist presenting the demonstration was using a cheap-o tablet that I'd never heard of (I have 2 Wacoms). He really liked its responsiveness. It's one of the tablets from monoprice.com.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10841&gclid=COfR_e_z4bUCFQk6nAodVA8Agw#1084103
There are a number of reviews of these tablets on YouTube. If I didn't already have my Wacoms, I'd get one of these just to see if they are as good as everyone says they are.

I'd make the sketches, scan them into Elements and clean them up, etc. Save them as jpgs. Load them into Movie Maker, speed them up until they looked close to what I imagine they should look like in my imagination, add music or narration, save the project then save the project as a video. Since you have Windows 7, in Movie Maker, you can Home tab>Save Movie>Burn DVD and use Windows Movie Maker to 1. Save a high quality video file of your project and 2. Burn it to a playable DVD that will play in any DVD player or on any computer that plays DVDs. If you don't want to burn a playable DVD, you can use the "Burn DVD" option to create the high quality video and then, when Windows Movie Maker opens just Cancel or close it.
http://www.windowsdvdmaker.com/guides/Beginner/
Yes, it says it's for the Vista version but the Windows 7 version is the same.

Have fun making your friend's gift. The attitude you have while making it is the attitude that will be built into it ...so have some fun with it.

how do i stop the import program from popping up in windows 7 every time i insert an SD card?

heavenly d

every time i insert my sd card it brings up this import program to import all of my photos onto the pc. how do i stop this from coming up in windows 7?
no not autoplay. sorry i did not specify my pc. its an HP, and HP photosmart always pops up whenever i insert my card. how can i stop it?

Answer
Are you talking about the "AutoPlay"? You need to be more specific. What is the name of the program? Did you install any software that came with your camera? Is that the program that is popping up?

--------------------------

I don't have an HP computer, so, I couldn't really tell you exactly what to do. But, here are a few things you can try:

(1) In the Start Menu, type "Autoplay", and click AutoPlay, which will be one of the search results. Near the bottom of the window that opened, click "Reset all defaults", and click "Save". I have a strong feeling that this will work. Here is what the settings look like on my computer: DVD movie - "Play DVD movie using Windows Media Player"; Software and games, Pictures, Video files, Audio files, and Mixed content - "Ask me every time"; the rest are set to "Choose a default". Yours may have "HP Photosmart" as the option. Insert your SD card, and see if that changes anything.

(2) If that doesn't work, open HP Photosmart and play around with the setting.

(3) Do this whether you have already fixed your problem or not! In the Start Menu, type "msconfig", click on it. Once it opens up, go to "Start up" tab. This allows you to disable programs that start up when Windows starts. Programs that start up when you turn on your computer tends to slow down the start up time. Unchecking them, and clicking OK will prevent them from starting up when Windows starts. Obviously, if you go to "All Programs", and click on HP Photosmart (when you want to) after Windows starts, it'll open up. That's what you really want. You can also uncheck things like, Adobe, Microsoft Office 2010, QuickTIme, Java, etc. If you don't know what they are, Google/Bing it, and see if they are safe to disable. Obviously, you need to leave Windows 7 Operating System, your video card driver, etc. alone, because you want those to start up.

(4) I am hoping option 1 will work out for you, but, if it doesn't, then you can just uninstall the damn program, if you don't use it. If the program came with your printer, then, you can aways just get the drivers without these additional software on the HP website. http://www8.hp.com/ca/en/support.html

(5) If none of the above works, and you really need the software, then, call HP and ask them.

If you are uninstalling software that normally comes with HP, because you don't use those, then, it's a good idea to use "CCleaner", and run a registry and disk clean once you are done. This will get rid of old registry entries and clear the temporary files from you system and keep it running fast.
You can download it from here: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Here is a nice YouTube video showing you how to use this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wqegYPb_Ms

Also, if you are looking for a good, free anti-virus program, I recommend "Microsoft Security Essentials": http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

I have burned films onto blank DVDs on my laptop but they will not play on my home DVD player.

All helpful advice is much appreciated.

Answer
its because the dvd player your using doesnt support the type of dvd your using. (dvd-r, dvd+r light scribe) just to name a few, you should try a different type of dvd, or it might also be the format of the movie ( mpg, mpeg, avi, mov) if switching dvds doesnt work, then try switching formatts with a converter, the easiest way to tell if its the dvd or the format without buying dvds is to put a store bought dvd into your computer and riping it ( you will need a decryptor cause without one your computer wont play the dvd) and then burning it to one of your dvds and try playing it, if it doesnt work then it is your dvds if it does then it is the format of the movies good luck

How do i insert videos on a DVD-RW and watch on home DVD player?

Answer
Yes, there is an easy way, you can try RZ DVD Creator, i have used it, it can create standard video DVD from any videos, it can directly convert and burn any movies to DVD(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, mp4 to
DVD, rm to DVD, rmvb to DVD, mkv to DVD, ogg to DVD, ts to DVD, mpg to DVD, wmv to DVD, etc. Offer the better quality.

Work well on my computer, i like it.

I always used a DVD player to watch movies.

I have to buy a new DVD Player because my old one broke. Why should I want to buy a Blu-ray dvd player instead of a regular dvd player.

DVD players scan discs with red lasers and Blu-Ray players scan discs with blue lasers. I'm not joking about the laser part. That's how it really works!

What type of dvd player would work best for a tv that is already a widescreen?

fajita_chi

I am looking to buy a dvd player for my parents and they purchase d a wide screen tv so when you play dvds or watch tv it tends to stretch out the picture. Is there a dvd player that takes this into account or does it matter?

Answer
There is a common misperception that the screen should be full. Not so. While it is nice when it happens only material at the same aspect aratio (width to height ratio) as the screen you are watching will fill the screen ... everything else will have black bars on the top and bottom or the sides (unless the image is stretched or zoomed ... but that distorts or throws away some of the picture).

The director of a film chooses the aspect ratio, and it can vary from 1.33:1 to over 2.7:1 in extreme wideangle films. The most common are 1.78:1 (so called "16:9" -- the aspect ratio of "widescreen" TVs), 1.85:1 and 2.35:1, but others exist too.

See the image at the link to see how these aspect ratios relate on a constant width screen.

TVs often have a control that allows images to be zoomed or stretched to fit the screen ... as stated above this is distortion and most people, after playing with the different settings for a while, return to a straight undistorted image setting.

A widescreen TV will "fit" more programming (particularly if they subscribe to HD programming, which is in widescreen (16:9) format) than their old style TV (Which was 4:3 or 1.33:1 format) BUT they will still see black bars on some movies, particularly on DVD (Note: TV broadcast stations sometimes crop widescreen movies to "fit" the 16:9 screen ... and you can't control this, but the same movie on DVD might have bars).

So ... no, you don't need to buy a different DVD player for widescreen since the basic aspect ratio is determined by the movie, not the player. Maybe the above explanation will help you explain it to your parents.

If buying a DVD player for a 720p or 1080p HDTV, consider a $100-$125 (less expensive ones won't provide any benefit) "upscaling DVD player" (with a HDMI connector) or if you want to go full out, consider the Venture HD DVD player from Walmart ($200) ... which is really a Toshiba HD-A3 player (a good upscaler and it plays HD DVDs).

Hope this helps.

What Should I Get For Christmas 2011?

Kylie

My family members are asking me what I want for Christmas but I can't think of anything! I am a teenaged girl and this is what I already have (and i am not trying to brag or anything because i worked hard and bought most of this stuff for myself)
Things i have:
a laptop
an itouch
an iphone
a kindle
a portable dvd player

I think that is all that is majorly noteable.
I want an iPad 2 but i don't know if I really need it and it is too expensive to ask for and I rather have a lot of less expensive things than one $600 thing.

My favorite stores are Hollister and Abercrombie&Fitch. I also love VS Pink and Bath and Body Works and stuff. Besides asking for gift cards and clothes and stuff, I also need a more expensive big gift as my main gift (maybe an electronic you can think of that i dont have that isnt too expensive?) I was also thinking maybe like more hair straighteners or curlers or something? Some cool hair tool gadget?

I guess if this would help, a little about me: I am sporty and athletic but am girly in the sense that I love makeup and hair tools and stuff. I dont really like video games and i like listening to music.

Please answer if many gift ideas because to ask for various things from various people so there can be a lot of items on my list. I was also thinking of asking for some kind of awesome electronic device that is really cool that isn't as well known like not an ipad or ipod some cool unique electronic device that does cool stuff that i may not have heard of?

Thank you for your help and answers :)
I am grateful for everything I have and I spend a lot of time doing community service and helping others so please don't lecture me on that. Also, I hate Justin Beiber, and celebrities like that and also disney channel stuff and i dont like gossip magazines and all that. The Music I listen to is basically DRAKE AND EMINEM and thats pretty much it. I think i will put "Take Care" on my list.
I also already have a camera btw

Answer
Just be thankful to be alive and around the people you love everyday maybe this year you should ask for starving kids to be fed or people who arent as fortunate as you to have all they want pray for them

I already have a Netflix account and my samsung dvd player is connected to the internet. But Netflix doesn't appear on the samsung apps for me to download.. help.

You might try updating the firmware on your Samsung player to see if the Netflix app shows up. But if not - your player does not support Netflix.

Try the Western Digital TV Live box. It has 25 apps and the support is much better than bluRay based apps.

When will 1080p resolution become standard?

top dvd players 2011 on Blue Ray Dvd Player | DVD Player Review
top dvd players 2011 image

Rocky

When will 1080p resolution become standard for video games and dvds? Next year, 2011, or after?

Answer
As the technology becomes cheaper, 1080p will become the standard.

Even on TVs 1080p used to mean an automatic $300-400 price jump on a similarly sized set. But now, it's getting harder and harder to find 30", 40" or larger sets that DON'T come in 1080p.

Blu-ray, meanwhile, is 1080p and always has been. Currently, it's about the only source for true 1080p video. DVDs, meanwhile, will never go 1080p. Their spec defines DVD based on SD TV technology, which tops out at 480p. However, using an upscaling DVD player, it's possible to play regular DVDs in HD, but they won't be as clear as a blu-ray played on that same display.

As for video games, you can bet that the next generation of hardware and games will use 1080p as a standard. But even now, the smaller games you can download using the PS3 or 360, are mostly in 1080p now. Let me tell you, the HD remix of the classic arcade title, Street Fight 2, looks incredible. They put a lot of work into redoing the graphics for the game, but it just goes to show that a good game is more than just pretty graphics.

As for TV, it's going to take studios quite some time to switch from SD to HD, let alone to 1080p HD. My guess this will take quite a bit longer, and may not ever fully finish - especially if another advancement arrives.

Does BEC(basics electronics course) help land good jobs? Does it teach you to build radios or fix them?

Raul

I am going to enlist as a 2844 ground radio repair man in the Marines Corps and i want to know if this is a good job, i like it and it seems real coo. Of course becoming a Marine is more important but i just wanna know, and is graduating top of yiur class hard? Im a smart seed but do I have to.be albert einstein?

Answer
Electronics will set you up in a great position for a career. The military doesn't build radios, we fix the equipment we have.

The 2844 MOS doesn't exist anymore. As of Oct 1st 2011 we took the 2844 and the 2846 and combined them into one larger, higher trained, radio techinician; 2841.

You get into this job and you'll find that BEC alone will get you most of the way to a techincal Associates Degree. It won't be too hard for you to pass. The whole reason for the EL requirement of 115 is to be sure you have to propensity to graduate.

The other answerer that says we don't really fix things, but only replace them; that depends on the actual item. Some items are cheaper and easier to just replace the circuit cards, other items don't have cards to replace so they have to be fixed. Don't let anyone form another service tell you how maintenance is done, it is VERY different between the services. The Army and Air Force have HUGE budgets, so they have stockpiles of spares that allow them to swap whole items and call it a day. The Marines can't afford that, we have to fix what we have which will give you some awesome experience. The Navy ET's are prepared to fix their stuff in the middle of the Atlantic all by them selves so they get a great background too. (Woe is the kid that has a helicopter fly a part out to the ship only to find that didn't fix it)

Don't be too concerned with graduating the top of the class. Of course you want to do your best, but graduating is much more important than anything else. If you go to 29 Palms intending to "just pass" and don't really take in what you learn, you'll graduate and wonder why the Marines Corps didn't teach you anything usefull. So don't go there and study just to pass the tests; study and learn the material.

Remember this: (So many people just don't get it) Electronics is electronics. Whether is a RADAR set, a radio, an automobile computer, a microwave, the digital A/C control in your house, your DVD player, your computer, an aviation beacon, a power supply... the electrons flow through those transistors, resistors, capacitors, inductors exactly the same regardless of the final function of the device.

As for building things, that's up to you. Over the years I've built halloween strobe light controls, a wiper delay for my old truck, electronic spark unit for my garden tractor, many other timers & LED displays, ect; I learned all that theory in BEC @ 29 Palms in 1986. You will too.

I've been a 2800 for over 25 years, I've had friends get out to work for every company imaginable from QualCom to Crutchfield to the FBI.

You'll also get a Secret Security clearance which will open many, many doors.

Best of luck to you, and Semper Fi.

If you need any more info just write.

best buy dvd player cheap image

Mad Thinke

ok, i used totalvideo2dvd author to convert a video i recorded to a dvd iso file and burned it with imgburn.
when i tested the dvd in my home dvd player (cheap best buy one) it plays fine with video and audio working perfectly. but when i tried to give a presentation at work on the companies new magnavox dvd player i got clear picture but no audio.
why is this and how can i fix it?
I've reburned, i've reconverted and burned both discs had the same issue

I really like T*V*2DVD's interface and would like to stick with it, this issue doesn't happen very often but it's a hajor embarrassment when it does
using philips DVD+r burning at x8 speed
problem seems random, some discs burn with audio some don't but the ones that don't always don't and the ones that do always do i.e. presentation 1, 2 & 4 burn/reburn with audio intact but presentation 3 always reburns/reconverts and burns with no sound

i checked the video files it has audio
checked the work dvd player audio inputs, settings and tested with multiple dvd+r
is it because i used ac3 instead of mp2?

Answer
You should use a different DVD-R. Cheap DVD-Rs have lower compatibility with players, but good DVD-Rs will work on a higher range of players. Choose a professional grade DVD-R, and that will most likely fix your issue. Go to http://www.wtsmedia.com/c-6-blank-dvd-rs.aspx and choose a Falcon Media DVD-R.

I assume you have checked the obvious items like the audio inputs on the company's DVD player.

This is my first time...The only website I know of is newegg.com and if anyone knows a really detailed guide.
thank you!

Answer
What are you going to do with it? I hope not only gaming?

SSD's are only good for acces/transfer times.. so it will only help at loading times but ofcourse not in the actual gameplay. It will also help to keep windows snappy and boot it up fast. Just get a 120GB disk to put windows+programs on it plus a 1 or 2 tb hard drive.
Bluray drives are expensive and useless.. it's 2013 and optical media are dead. A DVD player might be useful only for drivers and os installation.

And in my opinion: Don't go for multiple videocards. Selling the old graphics card and buying a single new one is in my opinion almost always a better option. That way you get less heat, newer technology and no need for expensive psu's and motherboards.

How to change bad looking subtitles on DVD I create?

Tammy

I've been working on some subtitles for a project I was in.
The subtitles look fine when I use VLC media player with the video + srt files.
I want to burn this project to a DVD but when I create the ISO file and check how the subtitles look, after adding them as an option with the DVD creating software I use (DVD Styler, but this happened with other softwares as well) the subtitles look very bad. I tried changing the font but it didn't help.

Here are examples of what happens -

http://s13.postimg.org/9fcr8yah3/vlcsnap_2013_04_10_17h52m41s117.png

BTW - the default font on both VLC and my DVD creating software for subtitles are Arial.

(not interested in buying special fonts)

Answer
Subtitles on a dvd are actually bitmap images, not text. They're not part of the video either so the mpeg-2 compression doesn't affect them. Sometimes the conversion process from text to images just doesn't come out very good.

You could try making a test dvd ("just generate" to your hard drive, don't make an actual disc) with lots of short videos and just try different settings for the subtitle appearance. Font (including bolding), size, outline thickness, shadow and whatever other options are available can affect the quality. Don't forget to save the project so you can go back and see which settings looked good.
This would be a good question to ask at DVD Styler's forum (or other dvd authoring software) so someone who's already gone through all that can give you a recommendation. http://forum.videohelp.com/ and http://forum.doom9.org are other good places to ask for advice.
(results from both these sites come up if you google: best font for dvd subtitles )

Have you ever bought a dvd player for your children - which one?

I've seen commercials for the kid tough dvd player - but reviews say the screen is REALLY tiny and it still skips when the kids drops it, so is it really worth the money?

I've seen another one that was the same size but cheaper and not as "tough".

Have you ever bought one for your kids? What brand was it and do you like it?

Oh - I have two boys who are two and a daughter who is three. So I need one that's durable. They're not that rough with their toys - but they are toddlers. The DVD player is for when we take long trips.

What is the best recommend dual DVD portable player for car?

Mari

My husband and I are taking our kids to Disney in June, I was wondering we have been window shopping for portable DVD players for the car. Preferably a dual. But for some reason every dual dvd player that we have seen has terrible reviews from other people. Out of chance does anyone have or know of a great dual portable dvd player for the car that you can say works great and really recommend? Thanks in advance.

Answer
My wife and I are lalso taking the kids to Disney in June and I have been shopping for a dual dvd system. I know that as a norm, you get what you pay for but there has to be a decently priced sytem that has good ratings. Keep me updated please if make a decision and I will do the same.

Can I download Netflix movies to multiple devices either at different times or the same time?

cashonly

If I have two DVD players and a Netflix $8.99/mo account,
Can I register both devices on my netflix acct?
If so, can I download a movie to both of them at the same time?
and If not at the same time, can I download at separate times?

Answer
Yes, you can stream at the same time into multiple devices, but you are limited by your bandwidth, so the quality will be worse.

Sofi

I have a DVD player that has a USB port and I would like to play music and movies stored on my PC by connecting them with a USB to USB cable. I was thinking that somehow I would need a software that emulates a flash pen, but I couldn't find anything like that. Feel free to give me alternatives!
Cheers!

Answer
This makes no sense.

a) The PC player can play all the movies you want and even more formats than the dvd player!!
b) Both the PC player and the DVD player are USB Hosts - you need a host and a client
c) You can't install any s/w on DVD players
