No, it's not true. However, you can modify most DVD players by using the remote control and entering a string of numbers and key presses. The trick is to set the region code to 0 (zero).

Look up http://www.dvdcodes.net/ to find out if your DVD player can be modified.

1. Check to see what kind of inputs the video card on your computer has. To do this, turn your computer around so you can get a good look at the back. Be on the lookout for any jacks to accommodate red, white and yellow composite video cables, red, blue and green component video cables, S-Video cables or HDMI cables. Any and all of these can be used to connect a DVD player to a PC. If none of these inputs are present, then you will be unable to connect the two devices without upgrading your computer.


2. Check the back of the DVD player to see which type of cable you'll need to connect it to your PC. Normally DVD players have a few different types of cable inputs on the back, so generally one of the types should have a corresponding connection on your computer's video card.

3. Get the appropriate cables. Composite, component, S-Video and HDMI cables are available at any major electronics retailer. Once you have them in hand, plug one end of each cable into the appropriate color-coded input on the DVD player. Then plug the other end into the corresponding color-coded input on your video card.

4. To use your DVD player with your computer, simply open the software that came with your video card. This software will be able to recognize and operate the DVD player, no matter the brand, through the connected cables. Next all you have to do is insert a DVD into the DVD player and use your computer as a television monitor.

5. If your current video card doesn't have any of the inputs and you still want to connect your DVD player to your computer, you can buy a new video card. It should be available from any major electronics retailer. Be sure to write down all the inputs and outputs that are on the back of your DVD player and get a video card that has the right capabilities.

A graphics card plugs directly into the motherboard of a computer. To install a new one simply turn off your computer and remove the case, exposing the insides. Remove the old graphics card from its slot and plug the new one in its place. Once this is done you can reattach the computer's case and turn it back on. Install any software and drivers that came with your graphics card (usually contained on CDs or DVDs inside the package) and it will be ready to use.

When buying a speaker, you should demo them first at your local retail store. Here are some brand to look for: Definitive Technology, Energy, JBL, Infinity, Klipsch and Polk Audio to name a few. Sony is not the best on surround sound. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on just about anything you are interested in. Sony has a poor customer service support and they are not a very dependable product. I never had any Sony tv (2 first HDTV in the market price $6,400 34" CRT tv and a 32" CRT), DVD player (2 both priced at over $1,100 when they first came out) and they did not last more than 3 years. Hope this will help you out.

Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. Plasma tv is still considered to have the best picture quality of all tv in the market. Panasonic is the only plasma tv they recommend. As for 3D, it has not been a big hit with consumers. Keep in mind that to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray movies (at this time there are only around 110 title available and they are mainly animated movies from Disney) and 3D glasses. The price of 3D is still very high. I never had a Sony product that have lasted me more than 3 years. The first DVD player model 7000 and the following year 7700 both priced at over $1,100 each and the first HDTV in the market. A Sony 34" CRT HDTV for the price of $6.400. If you read yahoo yahoo questions all the time, you will notice many issue with Sony. Look at a Panasonic 46" Plasma 3D HDTV or a Samsung. Hope this will help you out.

I guess this is an option to remove the subtitles on your player. You can right click the movie while player and it should give an an option there which says primary subtitle. Click no subtitle.

My previous attempts would not play on a regular DVD player, only on a computer. Also, it would only play one clip at a time, not continously. Should I be able to do this with iDVD or imovie, or do I have to use something like roxio toast (?)?

Use iMovie to create the movie, then use iDVD to burn the DVD. iDVD will make a DVD that is compatible with DVD players. Toast is not needed for what you are asking to do.

That's just plain lazy parenting. depending on your kids ages plan stops at intervals so the kids can get out, play and stretch. that's better for them and for you.

We have dual screen Phillips portable dvd player and the last few times we have used it, we have noticed that after using it the day before for a couple of hours, we have trouble starting our car. It is plugged into the adapter provided by the mini-van. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

it is like leaving your parkers on for a few hours, there is a bit of draw off the battery. you could upgrade your battery to a bigger capacity or you could have an accessory battery that only the screens run off, you could rig it up to the charging system with the appropriate items so it will charge itself.

how old is your battery? maybe it is a sign your battery is a little worse for wear.

What Should I Get For Christmas 2011?

My family members are asking me what I want for Christmas but I can't think of anything! I am a teenaged girl and this is what I already have (and i am not trying to brag or anything because i worked hard and bought most of this stuff for myself)
Things i have:
a laptop
an itouch
an iphone
a kindle
a portable dvd player

I think that is all that is majorly noteable.
I want an iPad 2 but i don't know if I really need it and it is too expensive to ask for and I rather have a lot of less expensive things than one $600 thing.

My favorite stores are Hollister and Abercrombie&Fitch. I also love VS Pink and Bath and Body Works and stuff. Besides asking for gift cards and clothes and stuff, I also need a more expensive big gift as my main gift (maybe an electronic you can think of that i dont have that isnt too expensive?) I was also thinking maybe like more hair straighteners or curlers or something? Some cool hair tool gadget?

I guess if this would help, a little about me: I am sporty and athletic but am girly in the sense that I love makeup and hair tools and stuff. I dont really like video games and i like listening to music.

Please answer if many gift ideas because to ask for various things from various people so there can be a lot of items on my list. I was also thinking of asking for some kind of awesome electronic device that is really cool that isn't as well known like not an ipad or ipod some cool unique electronic device that does cool stuff that i may not have heard of?

I have an old windows computer that I have deleted everything on the hard drive. I would like to find a distribution of Linux that would be good for a Media center. I need the distribution to run on a small amount of ram. And I don't quite know how good the graphics card is. Ah, at first I thought you were trying to make a Tivo like system which can be done with installing the myth-TV package.


I would boot the Ubuntu or Fedora Core 11 live CD and see how well it performs. Then there is an option to click on "Install" on the desktop to install it to your system.

I've used FC11 and recommend that version of Linux (though it's VERY similar to Ubuntu with the added benefit of being closer to the business RHEL version)

After installing FC11 from live CD, I would do the following:
(note, these all can be installed graphically as well)

Basic Tools:
From the command line type 'su -' <and press enter key> to become root then issue this command:

yum -y install k3b gftp nmap telnet-server kdeedu kdenetwork kdegraphics system-* thunderbird

(I think I'm missing some here but this is an OK start)

Full Open Office install (including uneeded langs)
yum -y install openoffice.org*


For full Video and mp3 support (use the FUSION repository):
Download the following and install them with rpm -Uvh <package name>

Now, Install the XMMS player (which is a lot like WinAmp)

(i suggest you change the skin or look and also add the playlist and eq views, but now you can play any audio with this. Look for "audio player" under Sound and Video")

Now install mplayer
yum -y install *mplayer*
(look for the mplayer icon under Sound and Video)

Another thing, if you plug this box into your TV , you can use Mplayer to play video right to it.. then setup a remote desktop session using the "Share Desktop option" in FC. Read up on VNC and krdc, it's easy to setup.

I was wondering if it was possible to hook up a video game console to my laptop so that I can just use the screen of my laptop instead of a nine inch portable dvd player to play the game. I don't really have room for a TV other wise I would use that.

yes you can, there is probably multiple ways but you need to know you can never expect it as good quality as a real tv meant for that. Also depending on the quality of your laptops screen, it may have delay or lag with the console sending the info and your screen receiving it.

about 99 dollars, you were probably wanting to just plug vga or hdmi into your laptop and it works with some kind of download, but no you cant do it with just software, the laptop monitor meant to be used like that. you can buy a 1080p pc monitor and use that as your consoles screen for only 200 dollars+ the audio adapter for your speakrs, which would be much better than paying 99 dollars to play it on your laptop.

Players do only that, play. To record a DVD, you need a recorder. Yes, theoretically, you could hook up a DVD player to a DVD recorder and make a copy of the DVD. I say theoretically, because commercial movies have copy protection on them, and federal law requires all manufacturers of digital equipment include copy protection detectors on the input. When it's detected, the recorder then refuses to record it.

There are legal ways to get around it. One is to use a video stabilizer box which strips the extra information from the video and it can then be recorded.

Check to see if the DVD player supports DVD+R media. It may require you using DVD-R or changing the booktype to DVD-R.

Also make sure your burning software finalizes the DVD.

Finally, check to see if your DVD player supports the output type from the camcorder. If the camcorder outputs Quicktime, for example and the DVD player does not support it, you may need to use a transcoder and burning application like Nero to convert the camcorder output to something that is recognized by the DVD player.

Because most normal DVD player only recognize the standard video DVD, don't recognize the data DVD(directly burn video files on disc), so you have to convert and burn your videos to standard video DVD, i am using rz dvd creator to do this well, it can create/burn standard video DVD from any videos, easy to use, you may have a try, hope it can help you.

If its a temporary situation you could get a portable DVD player and use head phones or connect it into the cars system temporarily but they also make DVD head units for cars that run on 12 volt systems, and fit in the dash...there are also portable units that strap to the head rest and are made for back seat viewing...

In most cases, yes the images are embedded in player firmware.

You need tools to disassemble the firmware file, replace their image, recompile, and install the "new" firmware. The tools are generally not publically available.
