Can I use a Dvd player that i bought in the States or Canada (NTSC) in Europe (PAL)?

Minimouse

Answer
NTSC and PAL are totally incompatible. However, my PAL player can play NTSC discs although image is a bit skippy. So maybe your NTSC player can also play PAL dvds. However, since you'll be connecting it to a PAL TV set, you must set the player's output signal to PAL. That's the most important thing. I can do that in my PAL player. But, if it outputs NTSC to your PAL TV, no deal.

Another thing is the REGION LOCK issue. Unless you hack it to make it zone-free, it will ONLY play REGION 1 discs. In Europe you can only get Region 2 dvds, which will definitely NOT play in a region 1 player.

My advice: Buy a new player in Europe. They're VERY cheap now that Blu-Ray is coming!! You can get a decent one for less than 50 bucks.

Buying DVD player in Australia?

Martin

I'm looking for a DVD player, In Sydney Australia.

- I don't plan on watching blue ray in the future
- I don't watch live to air tv ever (so don't need top box capability).
- I would like it to read MP4, AVI and other formats from a USB
- I would like this player to be reliable
- I hate those trays that only come out half way and can cause you to bend or scratch the dvd.

So, what advice do you have for me? I like Samsung, but they all seem to have that odd dvd tray that opens a dust cover before ejecting, I hear that for reasons unknown such dvd players are less reliable. One of my relatives used to sell vhs and dvd players. I could ask them for advice but they live far away, so I'm asking you.

Please help. Thank you in advance.

maybe you have some models or brands that I should avoid or look for.

I mentioned my location because I think they don't sell the same stuff overseas.

Answer
Samsung's BD-D6700 Blu-ray Disc Player marries cutting-edge features with compelling design. 3D technology lets you enjoy cinema-quality 3D Blu-ray titles--or upconvert 2D Blu-ray Disc titles into 3D, for new levels of enjoyment from your existing 2D library. Then, explore new dimensions of connectivity with built-in Samsung Smart TV. Browse the Internet, access Samsung apps, and search content on your TV or online. Or connect USB or DLNA certified network devices for further entertainment options. And all without the hassle of cables--the BD-D6700 features built-in Wi-Fi to get you connected right out of the box. To top it off, a sleek and modern brushed-aluminum look will stand out in any room.

Favorite tv shows are from australia and wont play on US dvd player what to do?

Eerie

i have a couple of my favorite tvs i wanna buy on dvd but its says they arent compatible with US dvd players. the dvds are from australia. what do i need to do. should i buy a different dvd player or is there a way around that?

Answer
The first problem you're facing is that a US DVD player and an Australian DVD have different region codes. The US is region code 1 and Australia is region code 4.
Australia uses PAL as it's television standard and the US uses NTSC (old analog format) or ATSC (new digital format). Your DVD player may be able to handle either format. Check the user manual to see what it says about this.
You need to make sure you deal with both issues. Surprisingly, the cheaper DVD players often don't care about region. They say they do but in actuality they don't care. I'd guess that it's the region issue that's stopping you. Check the links below to see if you can change the region code on your player and go from there.

How to hook-up my DVD recorder/player to my stereo?

Bruce B

I recently upgraded my old Sony DVD recorder to a real nice Panasonic. Unfortunately, there are no open audio outputs to connect to the stereo. (My old Sony had two separate outputs). How can it be connected to the receiver?? Can the output signal be split?? Thanks!!

Answer
The DVD player should have a set of red & white audio ports. You can connect these to your stereo while connecting your choice of video cable(s) to the TV. You will only get audio from the stereo, not your TV.

The player also has multiple sets of outputs and sends its video and audio signals to all of them. So you could, for instance, have a HDMI cable to your HDTV for upscaled video, and an optical audio or digital audio cable to your receiver for surround sound (which is what I did.) Or any combination of cables going any which way to your heart's content.

If you really want stereo audio to both your TV and your receiver, you can just use a Y-cable, available at any Radio Shack. You'll need 1 Y-cable for each RCA audio port.

have dvd recorder/player in working order. If I record disc on this machine it plays fine.?

scramo

But if I try to play it on a second play only dvd I get an error message to effect "This disc may not play on this dvd. Eject disc".This dvd player works fine with other discs. What is wrong ?Is there any way I can adjust the 2nd machine ?

Answer
Some DVD recorders require that you 'finalise' the disc when all your recordings are finished. Also, not all DVD players/recorders will recognise the same type/manufacturer of DVD media.

Upconvert DVD players?

Bill R

i was at wallmart last night and i came across what the lable called an upconvert DVD it claimed to get regular DVDs up 1080p. Now if it can get things up to 1080p does that mean it will play Blue Rays? Will my TV benifit from this? my TV is a Sanyo 26" HDTV with 720p. do these things acualy work or are they a scam? at walmart they were 50 bucks that seems a little to good to be true for a some thing that can get to 1080p!

Answer
If you want the highest level of performance from older-generation DVD-Video discs the best up-converting DVD players are nonpareil.

When it comes to digital video disc players you basically have two major groups of up-converting disc players from which to choose: (a) high-definition, i.e., Blu-ray Disc (as well as the now defunct HD DVD,) and (b) non-Blu-ray Disc, non-HD DVD up-converting video disc players. Regardless of whether you choose an up-converting video disc player from group (a) or group (b), hands-down the very best up-converting video disc players on the market today are produced by OPPO Digital.

The following is intended to help you choose the digital video disc player thatâs best for you. If you spend a fair amount of time watching DVD movies on a reasonably decent display (your Sanyo HDTV is sufficient)âand video image quality is paramountâthen I highly recommend you seriously consider purchasing a high performance up-converting DVD player such as one of the models from OPPO Digital. HOWEVER⦠if youâre eager to take the plunge into the world of Blu-ray, and you spend little time watching movies on standard DVD-Video discs and/or you have a fairly small movie collection on DVD-Video, or you feel that the OPPO DVD players are beyond your budget, and youâre not a videophile who is prone to obsessing over obtaining the nth degree of performance from your DVD-Video disc collection, then you may be better-off purchasing a Blu-ray Disc player. The bottom line: if you donât have a significant investment in DVD-Video discs and/or youâre unwilling to purchase an OPPO DVD player then you should consider purchasing a good quality Blu-ray Disc player.

Where can I buy a 3D DVD Player?

Kristine A

Where can I buy a 3D DVD Player?

Answer
Any place that sells DVD players. There's nothing special about the DVD player because there's nothing special about 3D DVDs. 3D DVD is not the same as 3D Blu-ray. 3D DVD is based on the anaglyph system. This is where the glasses have colour filters - Red & blue in the case of 3D DVDs. Here's a link showing what the images look like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_3D

As far as the DVD player and TV are concerned it's the same as any normal DVD disc. This is why any TV and any DVD player will do for anaglyph.

Where do you go shopping? Do you see DVD players for sale? Buy one, it will play a 3D DVD. If you already own a DVD player then buy a 3D DVD disc and play it. It will work, I guarantee it.

Hope this helps

toshiba dvd/vhs player?

John S

I have a Toshiba sd-v295 dvd/vhs player. I bought it new and have had it for around 5 years now, I can't get any audio when I play a vhs, but when I play a dvd it has great audio. I played a vhs when it was new and had no audio even then, it plays the movie fine, great picture and play, but it has no audio. I can fast forward/reverse etc...but no audio. I must have it hooked up correctly or the dvd audio would not work,,,,right?? Somebody help me please,,;o) I just want to watch some old movies on vhs but the audio isn't there...

Answer
You probably don't have it hooked up correctly sometimes those units only have to have one connection for audio for both VCR and DVD but other times you have to hook up two separate connections one for DVD and another for VHS depending on how the unit was designed...you might also try pluging in the connections for the VHS and once you get that going with sound; the DVD may be able to play through those same connections for VHS but not the other way around....but just unplug everything and try and get the VCR to work fist and then the DVD player.....last

I have a sanyo dvd/vhs combo player and have it hooked up to....?

GD.

an old tv with the only hookup on it anywhere is where the attenna goes. I have an RF modulator hooked up to it and to the dvd/vhs combo player but it will only play vhs tapes. when i put a dvd in it reads it and then clickes the RF modulator back off and quits on the dvd side. how do i fix this? any help is greatly appreciated!

Answer
I don't know about all the VHS/DVD combo's, but VHS is basically 480i. There are DVD players with upconverter to play on HD sets, but the HD sets also have an upconverter, so I don't know the reason for the duplication. Sales gimmick, I think.

But perhaps the DVD is set to upconvert, while the VHS is not. The modulator can only take 480i, so if it's getting 1080i, it's way out of range and clicks off to protect itself.

Is there anything i can buy that will allow me to connect a dvd player to my tv?

Yanni

My house was broken in to and many of my things were taken. My parents had a few items in storage and said i could have everything. The tv has connection for cable but no input/output for a dvd player. The tv was purchased in 2001 before it was standard to have input out put for dvd. Or can i connect it through a vcr? Can someone help me?

Answer
Older TV sets usually don't have the audio/video hookups needed to run DVD players on. I had a Zenith 25 inch TV that was the same as yours. If you want to watch DVD's on an older TV, you will need to get what's called an RF Modulator. You can find these at electronic stores, such as Radio Shack, or stores like Wal-Mart and Target. They cost from $20-$30 dollars, but will provide you the audio/video hookups needed to run your DVD player through your existing TV set. Don't run the DVD player through your VCR, as DVD's have what's called Macrovision to keep people from making copies of DVD's. The DVD will not play right if you do this. Get the RF Modulator, and you'll be o.k.
(BTW, if you need an RF Modulator, I have one I can send you if interested).

Do i need to buy HD cables for my dvd player?

AVhelpME

My family uses AT&T U-Verse. We originally could use our existing dvd player in a different input. But when a service person from AT&T came out to fix a small problem, he mentioned that our TV was HD capable and so he set it up to watch our U-verse in HD. But since then when we try to watch movies on our dvd player, the video is scrambled. The U-verse works perfectly fine, but anything we try to use in a different input like, a dvd player, game system, or anything, the audio works fine but the video is very scrambled. I thought that maybe since we watch the cable in HD, then maybe the service person changed a setting on the tv so that now we have to buy HD cables to hook from our TV to our DVD player. Please Help.

Answer
no you dont really have too. just get a cable for your dvd player.

I flew to Brazil to buy an illegal copy of Happy feet. Put it in the dvd player and it won't turn back on!?

nanomot

It broke my dvd player! I flew all the way to Brazil for nothing! Do you know how I can fix it?

Answer
DVDs sold in other countries will not play in American DVD players. DVDs sold in America and Canada Are Region 1 any other region will not play in American DVD players. You would have to have a International DVD player to be able to watch DVDs from other counties. I doubt the DVD you bought in Brazil actually broke your DVD player. Latin America DVDs are a completely different region ( I think they are Region 2,not sure).

My comp did not come with a dvd player to watch movies on it is windows xp. so is it posible to download one from the internet and then play movies or do i need to go and buy and have someone install a dvd player?on my comp, thanks, Roseanna

Answer
A DVD player is hardware so it would be kinda hard to download.

If your computer did not come with a DVD player it may not have a video card able to support one either. If you have a computer repair shop in your area, check them out. You can probably get a used one for the same price as the upgrade would cost you.

im trying to make a movie. and i just bought blank dvds. the prblem is that i dont know if the computer can burn it. it has a dvd player does it mean that it can burn dvds? or is there such a thing called a dvd burner you have to get for your computer. this maybe dumb but i need to know cuz i spent alot of money buying the blank dvds and i dont want to open it until i can figure this out..

thanks ill give you 5 points

Answer
A DVD player is not enough to be able to BURN DVDs. What is confusing is that they sell a so-called Combo drive, which as a DVD player and CD burner in one. So it can burn CDs, but not DVDs. It can only PLAY DVD movies or read data from a DVD.

You can get a decent DVD burner. Here are two that I recommend.

Internal (PATA)
PLEXTOR Black 18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 10X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache E-IDE/ATAPI DVD Burner included Replaceable beige front bezel - $99.99

External (USB)
PLEXTOR Silver 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 24X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM 2MB Cache USB 2.0 External Super Multi-Portable DVD Burner Model PX-608CU - $139.99

Plextor is a very good brand. Go for it.

If you want to Duplicate movies, then I recommend http://www.123copydvd.com

Good luck and Happy Computing!

You can get either a dvd drive that only reads dvd's and cd's (ie. dvd-rom) or a dvd drive that can write dvd's and cd's (dvd writer). I would go for the writer so you can burn stuff to dvd (dvd's can hold alot more than cd's).

Also test league before 19995 against Aust, was 1 win , then 5 losses, that hasn't changed today.
