How to prevent the DVD player remote to stop interfering with TV?

PN

I bought a dvd player and connected it to a TV. The player is placed just a shelf below the TV in a cabinet. The problem is when I use the DVD player's remote, it causes some function to execute in the TV. Say I press the fwd button on the DVD remote it causes the TV to shut power off.

How can this problem be resolved of interfering remote control?

Answer
I would suggest buying a good Universal Remote, and program it to run both devices. That way, you can press a button to designate which device you wish to operate. If you need code numbers for your TV or DVD, post the question on this forum and some kind person will try to help. Hope this was helpful. P.S. Make sure we know the make of TV & DVD.

Should I buy a 720p dvd player to go with a 720p lcd tv or will my 420p dvd player work?

james

The quality of the picture is pretty important to me.

Also, I've heard that most lcd tvs can convert a 420p signal to a 720p.
Is this the same thing as buying a 720p dvd player?

Answer
By 720p dvd player I guess you are talking about a blu ray. A blu ray will look much better than a standard dvd disk. HD tvs do convert any signal they receive to their native resolution, but if you send your tv a 480 dvd pic, it will just convert a poor signal to a large screen. A blu ray will send you a full 720 lines of resolution and look much clearer. It can send a 1080p signal, but with a 720p tv, that's all you will see, 720p. Still an excellent pic.

Use HDMI or red/green/blue component cables to connect blu ray to your tv.

How to make a dvd with windows 8 movie maker?

best dvd player windows 8 on Burn Audio Music in Windows Media Player with Windows 7
best dvd player windows 8 image

ME

I need help, I need to make a dvd and I cant do it with windows 8 movie maker

Answer
Hi There,

have had the same problem using Windows Movie maker using Win 7 home.
I could make a video , edits, transitions, title ,etc and burn to a DVD.
The computer could play it but not our home DVD player.

After trying several other programs there is one that is small, simple and it will burn a DVD that will work on our home DVD player.

The one that works is "Freemake Video Converter". It is free and allows joining several clips together. You can even "join" clips in different formats and it converts them to the format you select or will burn to a DVD-R disk.

It can open almost any format and save to most formats. If you want to burn a DVD you just select "DVD" and insert the DVD disk and click on "Burn"...that's all you have to configure.

One thing I found was you need to burn DVD-R (not DVD+R ). The plus R disks did not work for me. I doubt that rewritable DVD work work too.

Here is the link for the free download...http://www.freemake.com/
Hope this helps,
Al

What is the difference between windows 7 vs 8?

Shariful I

I want to know about windows 7 and windows 8 operating system. Their system requirements and some information.

Answer
Windows 8 and 7 pretty much have identical system requirements.

Windows 8
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/system-requirements

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Windows 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

As their names imply, Windows 8 is newer than 7. 8 is faster to start, handles battery life better, has improved security, and supports new tech like USB 3.0 right out of the box.

Windows 8 lacks a DVD decoder so you can't watch movie DVDs but it handles programs that come on DVDs like some games do these days. VLC is a free media player that has it's own DVD decoder built in so it's not really that big a deal.

The big change for Windows 8 is the new start screen, switcher, and charms bar. The start screen is like a full screen start menu. User's pin their favorite programs to the start screen and arrange them in any order. Instead of icons, the start screen has tiles that represent programs.

The start screen runs it's own kind of program called an app. Apps are downloaded from the Windows Store and run full screen by default. Apps don't have the usually controls and don't run in windows so you won't see window borders, title bars, minimize, maximize, or close buttons. What's neat is that apps can also display useful information on their program tiles. For example, a weather app can automatically show you the current weather condition and temperature on it's tile without you having to actually open the app. The mail app can tell you when you have new messages without running it, etc. So you can get a lot of information by simply going from the desktop to the start screen and reading the tiles.

The new interface takes some getting used to but once you have it down it's really not a big a deal as some say it is.

I run Windows 8 on my desktop and have no touch screen so I can assure you, it works fine with a keyboard, mouse, or laptop trackpad.

I was setting up my Sony DVD player to my 1080p HDTV, so when I turned it on, I tried to watch Spider-man 3, but it was playing in black and white. Please help me!

How Do You Hook Up an Old DVD Player to a new HDTV?

lordstryfe

I have an Toshiba 42" 1080p LCD HDTV REGZA, cable box and a DVD Player. I can't figure out how to hook up my DVD player to either my TV. My cable cords use the same cords slots as my DVD player.

Answer
Since you said your DVD player is old, I assume it does not have an HDMI output. If it had component video (Red, Green, Blue) then you need a component cable and you can connect it to the HDTV. You still need red and white audio (composite) to get the audio to your TV. If you do not have component output, then your only bet is composite (yellow for video, red and white for audio). HDTVs are intelligent enough to recognize all the inputs you plug into them.

My son loves to use his portable DVD player in the car. He recently dropped his and it broke. I am wondering if there is one out there that is very durable, and can with stand the abuse of a toddler. Any suggestions would be GREAT!

Answer
I love this player for my toddler! It has a carry handle so she can easily carry it, and no flip screen to bust off. She's also dropped it a few times on wood floors, no damage!http://www.target.com/Disney-Portable-DVD-Player-D7500PDD/dp/B000REHHL4/sr=1-2/qid=1204237629/ref=sr_1_2/602-0650823-7746261?ie=UTF8&rh=k%3Akids%5Fportable%5Fdvd&page=1

What is the best recommend dual DVD portable player for car?

Mari

My husband and I are taking our kids to Disney in June, I was wondering we have been window shopping for portable DVD players for the car. Preferably a dual. But for some reason every dual dvd player that we have seen has terrible reviews from other people. Out of chance does anyone have or know of a great dual portable dvd player for the car that you can say works great and really recommend? Thanks in advance.

Answer
My wife and I are lalso taking the kids to Disney in June and I have been shopping for a dual dvd system. I know that as a norm, you get what you pay for but there has to be a decently priced sytem that has good ratings. Keep me updated please if make a decision and I will do the same.

I just got a new CD & I want to rip it to my phone. How do I do it? And can I use a portable DVD player to rip it? Just wondering. Thanks. For free, too, please!

Answer
Best thing to do is rip the CD to your computer then just use Google's play service. It is free and you can upload 10K worth of songs for free and just stream the music and keep your phone's memory free. And with Google's music manager it will automatically upload any new song's you put on your PC to your online library without you doing anything. That's all I do now a days with my Android phone. And any song or album you buy from your phone will automatically be uploaded to your collection and then you can download it to your laptop or PC twice for free.

HI! I have a Motorola DCH6200 HD cable box from Comcast. I have hooked up our VIZIO HD tv to it...but need to connect surround sound system and combo DVD/VHS player so I can use them---how do I do this??? Do I connect them to the cable box or to the TV-or what???? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Answer
Connect optical or composite cables ( red & white ) from cable box to surround sound system.

How do I record onto a VHS?

Sarah

I am trying to record from my television onto a VHS tape. I have one of those dvd/vhs combo player things.
I have tried to experiment with all kinds of channels and settings, but everytime I try to play back what I've "recorded", it just plays that black and white fuzzy screen.
I currently have my vhs/dvd player hooked up directly to the television, not the cable box. And I'm using a coax cord, I think it's called.
What am I doing wrong?

Answer
ok, you are getting no picture. that is a real oddity because almost all modern video displays substitute a blue picture when there is no video, called "video muting". so i am thinking you have something broken, take it to a service shop.

How can I hook up a VCR and a DVD to a cable box then to my TV?

best dvd player ever made image

I have a Sanyo TV from the 90's. It does NOT have any A/V slots only one spot on the back for a coax cable.
I would like to hook up a Emerson VCR ,a Philips DVD player, and my cable box to the same TV.
I tried running a line from the wall to the VCR then to the cable box and then to the TV and used A/V cords to hook the DVD player to the VCR. That made my cable picture terrible. I tried moving the A/V cord from the VCR directly to the cable box. No change.
Even when I don't hook up the DVD player at all and attempt to run just from the VCR to the cable box to the TV....I can't seem to ever get the VCR to display a video on any channel both with the cable box on or off.

HELP!!
What is the correct way to hook this up so that it all works without me having to unhook the cable and hook up my VCR or DVD player every time I want to watch something other than TV?
You cannot hook the cable box to the DVD player because DVD players do not have coax type connectors.
The TV stays on channel 3. I change the cable channel using the cable box only (which displays what channel I am currently watching)

Answer
You need 1 cable splitter, 1 coax cable switch box, 1 RF modulator and several pieces of coax.

Cable that comes from wall - hook up to cable splitter. One output of splitter goes to the cable box in. Other output of splitter goes to VCR in. Output of cable box goes to cable switch box. Output of VCR goes to input of RF modulator. Output of RF modulator goes to cable switch box. DVD player hooks up to RF modulator via A/V cables.

Position 1 of cable switch box will enable you to watch cable box. Position 2 of cable switch box will enable you to watch VCR or DVD player.

Hooking it up this way will enable you to tape one show while watching another.

Have you gotten rid of your old DVD player to have space for your new Blu-Ray player or did you keep both?

Bright

I have a very good sony blu ray player (that I hardly ever use). I would like to stack it with my others underneath my tv, but it's so high that I'm afraid it would fall in an earthquake if I did that. What do you think, keep the cheaper to replace DVD player or change it in favor of the blu ray player?

Answer
apparently blu-ray can play DVDs as well as its own blu-ray disks. but still... i'm sticking to the now classic DVD player. what's the rush? feels like just yesterday we made the switch from VCR to DVD! so keep the blu-ray bc it can play both i guess. i mean since you already bought it, don't let it go to waste.

Conisdering purchasing an HD DVD player, but I dont have that much to spend.

Also, do I need an HD TV to use a HD DVD player?

Answer
First of all, yes you need an HD TV to use a HD DVD player. One would be from Toshiba, which for cheap i would get a old model of it. Which would be HD-A2 model. It is about $230 on amazon.com on Overstock.com you can get an even lower model for about $220 which it owuld be worth it to get the newer one.

What equipment do I need to use with an HD DVD player to get the proper sound?

Corey

Ok, I am a big home theater buff, and just finally getting into the HD players. I am ready to buy an HD player but am so confused on how the audio works. To get the dolby digital plus of dolby tru, does the audio need to be played through the HDMI cord and into the AV reciever? Heres my setup: 7.1 Surround, 50 inch plasma with 1 HDMI input, and Pioneer THX reciever ( but with NO HDMI input) So my question is, If i buy an HD DVD player, and just run the HDMI cable from the dvd player to the tv ( since my reciever doesnt have an HDMI input), will I only get the HD pic, and not the awesome sound features like DD+? Basically, can I get the great sound HD DVD players have to offer by running an optical cable to my reciever, or does that sound only come through the HDMI? So confused :) Thank you!
Also one more thing to add: can someone please clarify the Dolby Digital plus / DTS HD. If I am not capable of running the audio thrgouh HDMI, which it doesnt sound like i wil be seeing my reciever doesnt have it, will the dvd player try and decode the DD+ if I use a simple optical cable? Would this sound still be better than a standard DVD, or am I wasting my money buying an HD DVD player when my reciever has no HDMI input? Thank you!

Answer
you are still going to get better sound, but it will not be 100%

but it is still going to be HD sound thru the optical, it is going to sound like DVD-A or SACD, or like the HD sound from your TV

We need one that has really great sound so we can both hear it in the car.
We also need to know of any that come with a car charger or where we can get one for it?
THANKS!

Answer
I hear you about the cheap ones, they last for a year or so maybe. Go with a name brand like Sony. The Sony DVP-FX930 9-Inch Portable DVD Player has great reviews on Amazon and CNET. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TCJI7E?ie=UTF8&tag=howtobecafir-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001TCJI7E

Can portable DVD players really take the temperature extremes of car use?

great_and_

They sell lots of portable DVD players with straps for hooking to the back of carseats - but can these players really handle car interior temperatures.

In the winter, temperatures could be subzero, would the LCD freeze?
In the summer, with the sun beating on the car, the temperature could be 150 degrees f. Would anything melt?

Are these things really designed to take that?

Answer
They are not much different then anything in your dash, but to be safe i remove mine. I have left them in at both extremes and they work fine but i usually remove them for safekeeping.

We have a home theater in our basement. We would like to have the ability to hook up our DVD player and Wii (or other console) via component cables in one location on the wall near the surround sound system. What is the best way to do this?

I have been looking at component wall plates and component cables. I would like to be able to leave both connected and switch between them. Also, would like for the connection to look nice in the wall while being as cheap as possible.

Thank you!

You Want it CHEAP right?

http://www.firefold.com/Categories/Video-Switch-Boxes/Component-Switches-(Multiple-Sources--One-TV).aspx?gclid=CM7uxKGl-5MCFQNHFQod43r4Vw

Look at the 3rd one...

Well, here's some other choices......

And

But what I don't see is In-Wall switches you walk up to....

I see mostly shelf /rack mounting.....

And if I HAD the choice....I'd go with HDMI and not the lossy Component output cables

Or what I'd do is use a video compensator just AFTER the switch and before the run to the projector....

Where to put DVD player in Home Theater. Under the screen? By the projector?

anang2000

Hello-I am trying to set up a home theater system. Currently, I have a projector that is hooked up to the ceiling using a mount. I am connecting a DVD player to the Projector to watch movies. Where should I put the DVD player? Underneath the screen? Closer to the projector? Any suggestions will be very helpful. Thank you!

Answer
Because the video cable is more expensive per foot, put the DVD player nearer the projector if possible. A long video cable can send audio to the AV receiver, but this is fairly cheap compared to a long HDMI cable or a HD rated component cable.

Dont forget that the AV Receiver is often the hub of your system. It will want to be near all the devices that feed things to the TV and sound system like:

- the dvd player
- the cable box
- the sat receiver
- the game system

And dont forget network (for game and BluRay updates) and phone (for pay-per-view).

So you might want to consider where the cable/sat/network feeds come in and just locate everything there.

Hi,
I recently bought an active 3D Sony TV and would like to watch a 3D movie for the first time at home. I have the glasses and a regular DVD player. Should I buy a Blu-Ray player to be able to watch 3D DVDs?

What do I need to make it happen?

Thanks

Answer
For active or passive 3D, You need a 3D Blu-Ray player, that explicitly states on the box that it is 3D-capable.

Me, I have the Sony BDP-S590. It is an awesome player. (The best part is, with the Sony TV... when you insert a disc, it automatically turns on the TV and sets the input ;D ) You can get it for under a hundred especially around this time of year. Well worth the price; Of course other manufacturers make them as well.

Here's the logo most consumer products use, that you should look for:

What type of HD cable do you need to connect from your blu-ray player to the TV?

Hot Chocol

I recently got a new HD TV and I already had a blu-ray DVD player, the installer told me to get an even better picture on my TV I should buy a "HD cable" to connect from my blu-ray player to my tv. What type of cable was he talking about and does it really make a lot of difference in picture quality?
Thanks!

Answer
HDMI cable which is used for High Definition. There are a couple of different HDMI cables, but the most important to remember is that a $100 cable and $30 one will show absolutely no difference, so don't get caught by those sellers trying to make you buy an HDMI cable for $100.

You can check here for more information on HDMI cables (there's versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_1.0_to_1.2

Generally, you'll want an HDMI 1.3, or if it's for 3D, you'll want 1.4. It usually is written on the box/bag which version it is.

I'm looking for a dvd players that plays dvds from other regions (0, 2, 4, etc) I live in America (Reg 1) and have always wanted to get a player that does that but don't know what a good brand is or how easy one can be bought. Thanks.

Answer
You cannot openly buy them, or more accurately, other than Region 1 only players cannot be openly sold in The USA/Canada.

Many low end "import" players are easily hackable, or may be region free even. Those can usually be easily bought at discount electronics and department stores.

There is no such thing as Region 0, BTW.

How to run a dvd player off a comcast dvr cable box?

Q. I have the cable box run to the tv and can turn it on with no problem. I have the dvd player with all the right connections run to the cable box. I got my comcast remote to turn on the dvd player (as the aux option). But I don't know what button I'm suppossed to be hittting to change from watching the cable to watching a dvd. Any solution would be great.

Answer
The Motorola DVR from Comcast has all it's input connections turned off, those are open for the consumers in other countries who have to buy there DVR ( i.e. Canada) The only connections are available are the Composite out put (RGB) RCA, and the RF out, the eaithernet , USB, and Firewire ports are closed, (but there are some who have the Firewire ports open if you have the right drivers for your computer.

The USB ports do have power so you can have a usb light or USB fan (the motorola boxes get really really hot)

The best bet would to go wal-mart or another electronics store and get a system selector they are about 20-50 bucks and allow you to hook up to 8 devices to one RCA input
