what are progressive scan dvd players?

Q. I was wondering if they are any different from just regular dvd players.and do they work on all tv's?

Answer
Progressive Scan DVD Players are used with Digital EDTV or HDTV's. Although many have an option to turn off the progressive scan, it will not provide a better picture for analog TV's. For more info see....

Help buying new DVD player?

Mine just died so i got to replace it. Im looking at either getting an Upconvert, stand alone blu ray or ps3. I know that the stand alone blu ray upconverts dvds also but i want to know if the ps3 does other wise i dont want one. I have a 50" 720p, is it worth even getting blu ray? If anybody knows about the ps3 and upconverting please tell me. Also how did you chose your current setup.

Answer
If you like playing console games and are even considering getting a blu-ray player than getting a PS3 is your answer. Every consumer electronics expert including CNET rates it as the best Blu Ray player on the market. It does an excellent job up converting also.
