ok i bought a dvd player and i noticed u could use a hdmi cable on it ok so my question is what do hdmi cables do. do they improve the dvd quality or something?
Answer
What it usually means when a DVD player has an HDMI connection is that it has the ability to upscale DVDs to play on an HDTV monitor. This sometimes, but not always, improves the image quality of DVDs a little bit, but your HDTV also has an upscaling chip in it, which it will use by default. Sometimes the upscaler in the HDTV is better than the one in your DVD player, so try it both ways and see which looks best.
HDMI also offers the added convenience of carrying audio from your DVD player as well as video, so you will only need the one cable instead of two.

I know the PS3's have a blue ray player in them, but are they able to play regular DVD's, if so how is the quality?
Answer
Actually the PS3 will up-convert DVD's to 1080p. The quality will be better then that of a normal DVD player.
