Hi, I recently received Sims 3 as a gift. However I have noticed there are two versions of the base game: the 2009 release (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Sims-PC-Mac-DVD/dp/B0015YDH6O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1364158654&sr=8-2) and the 2012 release (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Sims-3-PC-DVD/dp/B00AHRD69S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364158654&sr=8-1).

I have the latest version which states "internet connection, origin account, acceptance of product and origin end user license agreements, installation of the origin client software, registration with enclosed single-user serial codes and the latest sims 3 patch required to play."

This concerns me as I really would prefer to be able to install the game from the disc without needing origin, so if at any time in the future I want to install the game and origin is not available for whatever reason then it doesn't matter as the game will still work without it. Also I do not like the idea of having to download the game online, as this could be a real time-consuming hassle and makes me confused about the point of buying the disc at all.

I was told that I won't need origin or the internet to install and run the game I have, but from my understanding from what the package says I have been misinformed. However I could be worrying about nothing so if anyone could advise me that would be great. I've only ever played Sims 2 so this is all new to me.

Answer
You don't need origin to play. Origin is just the game connecting to the sims website through the internet. (Basically connecting with other players, buying in game accessories with real money, and sharing your in-game activities with FB or the sims website.) You do not need to connect to origin nor do you need an account.

I don't believe you'll need Internet to install the game since you have it on CD, but you will need the Internet to update with the current patches. Patches fix bugs in the game and generally make the game better. (A recent patch made the movement of the horse's legs in Sims 3 Pets look more natural.) You can check the website to see what exactly the patches are doing.

Is there a safe download for Panasonic VideoCam Suite 1.0 available ? Any viable replacements?

KenK

I removed Videocam Suite 1.0 from my PC last night, while I was trying to fix a problem. I thought I still had the CD, but could not locate it. I saw a number of places where it could be downloaded from, but it requires installing additional software, and I prefer not to do that. I contacted Panasonic today, and was told it is no longer available for download, and would have to be purchased. If I have to pay for a program, I will purchase something else that works properly every time.
My second questions is for recommendations on a program that is similar to VideoCam Suite that can download (from Panasonic camera), edit and (most importantly) create a DVD that can be use on any PC/DVD player.
I should add that my PC is running Windows Vista. I also have a laptop that has Windows 7,so would be looking for a program that can run on those platforms.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Ken

Hi Ken, and welcome back to Yahoo!Answers:

First, I was able to download VideoCam Suite 1.0 from Panasonic as recently as this past May (May 2012), but I believe the site required a Panasonic camcorder serial number to enable the download link. It's still available on the Japan Global (English) Panasonic support website -- have your serial number from your camcorder's sticker handy: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/soft/download/vcs10ee_w7.html

But regardless of that, if you haven't turned-off your Windows System Restore features, you can just use a Restore Point previous to your "last night" deletion (and pick one before the "cause" of your other problem you were trying to fix, if possible!) and you'll have your Suite back.

As for other apps or programs, try telling us exactly which Panasonic camera model you have. There are dozens of types, storage formats, and file formats. Some are better-suited for newer AVCHD formats, while others are customized for mini-DVD files (like in the Palmcorder series).

And after you get your Suite back, you might consider doing a full backup of your Vista PC and switching it to a "better" Windows version (even XP was a more stable version than Vista!). Many apps didn't work well (or at all) with Vista; and some had driver/compatibility issues with Win7.

As for your Win7 laptop, the download version of VideoCam Suite (version 1.0L822) is both Vista and Win7 compatible.

I keep all my edit PCs running on a stable release of WinXP, and have no compatibility or driver issues, and it's less of a memory hog than later Windows releases.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.
