How to get MP4's to work on Win Media Player for Windows 7 64 bit?

matty

Hi Guys and Girls, I have been trying for the past two hours to get an MP4 file to work on Media player or even DIVX, I have windows 7 64 bit, most codec's are for 32 bit, and i did find one but it failed miserably. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Answer
Hi, you could go with vlc as the other answerer suggest or try these codec packs below to make wmp play all your files. They both work on 64-bit systems. They are shark007 and media player codec pack, shark007 is my favorite. I use media player codec pack on the computer I'm on now and shark007 on my other computer.

Shark007 is my favorite because it can associate all files to naturally open in wmp unlike media player codec pack, theres also great plugins for windows media center in shark007 tools section of the site.

1. Warning number 1, you never want more than one codec pack at a time or you will have conflicts.

2. Warning number 2, shark007 does not contain a virus. It is a false positive in which the owner shark007 has already submitted to the major antivirus companies for review.

http://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com/ (Official site for media player codec pack. It supports wmp and any player capable of directshow filters. I suggest you go here and read up on the pack first.) The only thing It will not do is associate the files to play in wmp, you must do that yourself by right clicking on the file and choose to always open with wmp. It will make wmp play your mp4 files and many other files including dvd's!

Media player codec pack can make wmp play: .mkv | .avi | .flv | .mp4 | .m4v | .m4a | .ogm | .flac | .ape | .aac | .ogg | .mpc and many more.

Here is shark007. Since you have windows 7 64-bit, you have to install the windows 7 32-bit codecs then install the shark007 x64 addon component to after to make it work. All download links are at the bottom and take you to majorgeeks site for the download.

In the shark007 options window under the help tab click "windows filetype association" this will make wmp the default for all files.

I hope this helps you out. If you need futher help add additional details and I will do my best to help you further.
