Who Says
I like Ubuntu 11 but the problem i have with Linux is that I cannot figure out how to install programs other than what they offer and install for me. Can anyone explain to me how this is done or direct me to a sight where I can learn?
Answer
A few things you can do to take care of all your media needs in Ubuntu:
1. Install the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" package.
2. Use the VLC media player.
3. Add the Medibuntu repository. http://www.medibuntu.org/repository.php
4. Or just install the "libdvd" package directly from here: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/06/how-to-enable-dvd-playback-in-ubuntu-11-04/
Doing 1 and 3 will take care of all your multimedia needs, so you might as well just get it over with once instead of hunting down codecs piecemeal as you need them.

what is a good media player for ubuntu 11.04 to play dvd's and cd's?
Cay Kas
this shitty gnomeplayer and totemplayer can't perform the most basic tasks when it comes to dvd's and cd's without having to download hundreds of plugs.
what is it with linux ubuntu?--No realplayer, no itunes and no decent mediaplayer at all.
aren't they aware that a mediaplayer is to play dvd's and cd's?
