I have a new Windows 7 Ultrabook (no dvd drive) laptop. Just wondering how best to run old programs/games off of the hard drive? I have a external dvd player to transfer the files. Thanks.
Some games (like Madden/Civilization) require you to leave the CD/DVD in the Drive and not run it completely off the CD/DVD Drive.
I mean run it completely off the hard drive.

Answer
It's best to reinstall any applications or games on the new computer instead of copy and pasting the files over. Sometimes that will work but a lot of the time the programs have dependencies installed in other places (such as the registry or a folder with saved data).

To transfer you will need to hook up your old hard drive to a PC and burn the files to a cd or flash drive.

How can I burn an MP4 file to a DVD to be played on a DVD player?

Q. I copy and paste the MP4 file onto a blank DVD but it just says it needs to burned using a certain program.

Do I need to convert the MP4 file? What program would I use? I specifically want it to play on a normal (region 2) DVD player. Any help? (: I'm using Windows 7.

Answer
i think you should convert your mp4 file to avi, i suppose its going to work like that, as far as i know avi is optimized for burning to dvd.
if youre looking for a good converter for both windows and mac i can recommend you audials tunebite, ive been using their products for some time and they work pretty good. and if youre not looking to invest any money into a new soft, i think you might be able to do the converting using one of their demo versions. but its a pretty great soft, if you take a look at audials one for example youll see its kind of like an all in one soft, does recording, burnind to dvd, file sharing, converting of course and some other cool stuff. anyway, this is a step by step guide on how you can convert mp4 to avi, if you wanna take a look and make an idea about how converting works:
