We just bought a new Blu-Ray player for our home. If I get Blu-ray discs from Netflix, can I play them on my older, still working non-HD DVD player that we moved to another room?
Answer
No, Blu-ray will only work on blu-ray. Sorry

Can a Blu-Ray player also be used as a DVD player?

I am wondering if every Blu-Ray player can play DVD's aswell as Blu-Ray discs? (I know not the other way round!)
Answer
Yes, you can play DVDs on a Blu-ray player but you can't play a Blu-ray DVD on a normal DVD. The Blue-Ray player would actually "up convert" or interpolate the missing lines/information from the old DVD's. Blu-Ray players are backward compatible, so your old DVD5 and DVD9 are still good. Just a small suggestion, if you are considering a Blu-Ray player, might want to just go ahead and get a PS3 since it's a player plus a lot more....
