nikhil b

i have a lot of files in mpg,avi or dat format which i wanna convert to dvd format, compress them and put all of them on a dvd.. the way they put 3-4 movies on a dvd... can someone help me on what software i need and what i should do.. thanks

Answer
well, theres alot of divx capable dvd players for cheap these days that requires no converting ... but the easiest app to use to convert is winavi ... dont use nero its slow and sucksass for converting ... although u can add multiple avi movie-length files to a winavi single-dvd convert, ther are 2 problems ... one, winavi doesnt make menus so the movies will just play sequentially or have to be fastforwarded to get to the next movie, and two, if you put more than 1 movie on a dvd the quality will be reduced ... when u get to the point of 3 movies in dvd format on a disk the quality level dips to below vcd quality which is bad if your tv is large ... the bigger the tv the more noticeable the quality ... anyway ... if you want to convert avis and put them on a dvd with good quality and a menu heres my method ...you need the ffdshow codec installed on ur machine ... use canopus procoder2 or tmpgenc to convert and u need to use mpeg layer2 sound and keep the video bitrate to about 2500 ... after you have the movies converted to seperate dvd mpeg files use a dvd authoring app to make menus and buttons and settup how you want it to play and add titles, background, music, ect ... tmpgenc dvd author is a good one to start with ...

good avi to dvd app comparable to nero vision?

i have used the demo version of nero vision and it has worked pretty good for me i was just wondering what other apps are as good/better before i go spend $$$ on the real nero?
I would like it to have to the ability to create chapters and the ability to write to an image file
thank you

Answer
Standard DVD players read the .Vob format, the files you have now are in AVI format..

I would recommend you download ConvertXtoDVD.

It supports subtitles. This tool will automatically convert to DVD format, readable by all standard dvd players, it will then burn automatically to DVD...

it is easy to use, fast and it works perfect for me.. give it a try, you'll love it

1. Download ConvertXtoDVD here:
http://convertxtodvd.burner-software.com

It can convert any video file.. like wmv, mkv, mp4, avi to dvd

2. Add or drag-n-drop as many video files and subtitles files.
See how to add subtitles here: http://convertxtodvd.burner-software.com/screenshots/

3. Insert blank DVD

4. Click "Convert"

5. Enjoy watching those video files on your home DVD player! =)
