Q. Will my Dvd player able to play zone 1 (usa/canada) dvds in zone 4 (NZ/Australia). I want to buy a dvd from amazon.com to play in NZ. The shop said it was international compatible when I got it, does that mean in will for sure or only maybe?
Answer
If the DVD player is a truly international player (an "all-regions" player) then yes, it will play nearly all DVDs.
However, be warned that some DVD's have been authored in such a way to prevent them from being played on many if not most all-region players.
The regions system used in DVD's is intended to allow each nation or region's copyright laws to be enforced in a reasonable manner in regards to the intellectual property rights of the owners of the copyrighted material on the DVD. Some IP owners are more agressive than others when it comes to ensuring that their DVDs will only play on the expected players.

My dvd player says wrong region when I put in a dvd. what does that mean?
MARK
I put in a new dvd into my player. It says wrong region and will not play. But does say PAL on the back of the dvd box. I switched the set up from ntsc to pal and got nothing..???
Is there anything I can do? won't play in my dvd player? Return the dvd?
Answer
DVD region codes are a DRM technique designed to allow motion picture studios to control aspects of a release, including content, release date, and price, according to the region. DVD video discs may be encoded with a region code restricting the area of the world in which they can be played.
It means that the DVD disc is coded with a Region code that can only be played by a DVD player who are also coded to play the same code as the DVD disc. For example if your DVD player is bought in US, Canada, Bermuda and US Teritories that have a Region Code of 1. Then you can not play a DVD disc that is bought from other country that have a Region code of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 But other disc have a combination of Region code so it is still possible to play also other DVD.
ntsc and pal has nothing to do with that code.
