Don't waste your time converting movies and burning them to DVDs if they are in .AVI formats. Just buy a Divx Dvd Player and play those .AVI movies directly from a disc or USB. It's fast and the quality is exactly the same when you watch it on computer. You see, when you convert the videos to other formats ( in this case, .AVI to DVD), the quality will be reduced up to 30% and it's really crappy. Trust me, get a Divx Dvd Player and you will really save a lot of time in the future.

DVD player wont play some (non-burned)movies?

ok, so you just bought a movie. You go home and load it in your DVD player. After 20 seconds of "Loading" you finally get the message "No disc"
A while back, I heard that the reason DVD players wont play some movies is becuase there was no universal standard so DVDs came in a variety of standards causing some movies not to play.
its a few years later, and out of my collection, there are numerous movies that are unreadable.
I have bought numerous players over the years, a few being expensive, but they all do the same thing....they choose not to play some DVDs.
The funny thing is that my 5 year old DVD ROM has played every DVD i popped into it , even the movies that my previous players have rejected.
The problem isnt due to a dirty laser, old player, or a scratched disc. I know it has to be all about the standards. I really need to know of the best dvd player. I am literally sitting on hundreds of dollars of movies that i cant watch.
Answer
1. your DVD could be stuffed
2. Yeh, the DVDs might be of a different region - NTSC, PAL.
If you really want to watch the DVDs, install DVD Shrink (1mb) on your computer and burn the DVDs and turn off all region settings. Then you'll have a regionless disk.
