On my ASUS x24 DVD-ROM drive or would I have to get a Blu-Ray drive?

Answer
A Blu-Ray/DVD Hybrid disc means the disc is double sided. One side a DVD, one side is a blu-ray

You can play the DVD side in the DVD rom, but not the blu-ray side. Blu-ray is not DVD. Trying to watch Blu-ray on a DVD-rom or dvd only device is like trying to pay at burger king with a McDonald's gift card

Is it OK to play Blu Ray Discs on a DVD player?

I was wondering if it is possible to use blu-ray discs in an ordinary disc player. I have an HP HDX 16 laptop with a DVD RW drive.

Answer
Think about it. If you could do that, why would anyone buy a Blu-ray player? Blu-ray and DVD use different wave length lasers. The Blu-ray laser is a narrower beam, which allows it to read the smaller pits on the Blu-ray disc as well as the wider pits on the DVD. The DVD laser is too wide to read the smaller pits. See the wikipedia article on Blu-ray if you want the technical details.
